Book 8 of 2023 done! Two books read and six books listened to. I think the goal will be 12 books read and 24 in total for the year. This one was fine. There's a strong anti-bullying theme to the book but the ending feels a little flat. The main character has no chance to really make up for her actions.

Eleanor and Park left me crushed. I couldn't even pick up a book for at least a month. Then my place in line for this book came up. I forced myself to listen to it, knowing that it would be a long wait until I could have the chance again. I'm so very glad that I did. This is honestly the best book I've ever read. Riley Sager's ability to twist the plot into something unrecognizable at the end is a true talent. 10/10. Everyone should read this.

In this installment, we witnessed the death of two sisters, one great and another absolutely crazy. To add further insult to injury, Catelyn didn't even remain dead. She doesn't even get to rest with her husband. 😭 But THANKFULLY Joffrey, the mad and mad king, is dead. Thank the gods! Both the Old and the New.

Also, Sansa's story line continues to break my heart. She is beauty, she is grace, and she is also very, very smart.

Big Summer: A Novel | Jennifer Weiner

I loved the beginning, with the relationships between friends and lovers and families. I didn't like the second half. The twist was shocking and totally unexpected, but then as they started to figure out who did it, the book just seemed like a landslide. Conclusions were drawn that, honestly, didn't make sense with the information given. Jennifer Weiner knew how she wanted the book to end and had trouble conveying it in an organized way.

"But sometimes when you are in a moment, it‘s so close to your face, reality, it‘s pressed up so close to you, that you just flinch, you react, and then your fate is decided, and all you have done was what you couldn‘t help doing, and yet your fate is decided. You‘ve done something that can‘t be taken back." This book was incredibly sad, with characters so developed I felt like I knew them. I don't have any words to describe how I'm feeling.

This dog's face sums up my current feelings about this book. I love love love Bunny and Michael's friendship and interactions but spaced through it are Michael's obscene, vivid sex descriptions. I'm not opposed to LGBTQ+ sex. I'm opposed to how jarring it feels while listening. I've read and watched Game of Thrones and didn't feel so unsettled.

UGHHHH. I NEED JOSIE SILVER TO WRITE MORE BOOKS RIGHT NOW. When I read this one, and One Day in December, I was so mystified by the characters. Like these are real people, and these books are biographies. I feel whole when I read this, and I feel a little empty now that it's done. ❤😭

This book was SO GOOD. My second favorite of the series. Edward is much more relatable than Bella, which is kind of the point right? He was a normal human before becoming a vampire, and he was a normal human after. I think the contrast between their minds really brings home the point that Bella was born to be something ~other~.

This one was okay. I enjoyed the older feel to the style of writing. Not like it was set in an older time, but as if the author wrote it a long time ago. The plot was a little hard to follow, but I somehow want more of it. There's more to this story.
Also, this counts for the Leo prompt of #readyoursign 8. Read a book with your spirit color (gold) the title or on the cover.

This was... interesting...ha. It was nice. I like books that follow characters through their lives and the characters felt real. I just didn't like them much. Jules should have been happy with the good man that she married. Someone who time and time again came back to her. Her only redeeming quality is that she did not run off with Ethan in the end.
⭐⭐

8little_paws Jules is a terribly self centered person and it was hard for me to spend this many pages with her LOL
4y
erinachu @8little_paws yes. She had a fine life. She was only dissatisfied with it because she was surrounded by people with more money than she had. So many people would kill to have a loving family and a good job 4y
