MrsMalaprop
Special | Georgia Blain

Pickpick

As some of you may know, I have a bit of an obsession going on with Australian author Georgia Blain who died prematurely in 2016 😔. This book was one of two published that year. It is YA, specfic about teenager Fern and her Lotto Girl friends. I‘m not a big fan of the genre, so perhaps not the best judge, but I found it to be just an OK read. #ozfiction

The Meadows | Stephanie Oakes
Pickpick

The Meadows is set in a future in a country ravaged by climate disaster. A totalitarian government has taken control and has created a society based on homophobia, misogyny, white supremacy and lies. The story follows Eleanor who lives in a small rural, coastal community. The Meadows is powerful and important Sapphic dystopian fiction. The Meadows is well written, immersive and heartbreaking. I liked Eleanor and her journey to self-acceptance.

While this novel started out quite slow, it definitely built itself up into an intriguing tale. Oakes jumps between the two different timelines to tell the story, revealing relevant details and events in a way that creates wonder and a bit of suspense. It was extremely effective at revealing Eleanor‘s journey throughout her time at the Meadows and as an adjudicator, along with those individuals that have played a part in her life.

Here‘s my progress for the Sprinting Through August readathon. I did 2 reading sprints today and I finished my 5th book. I‘m going to go to bed and I‘ll start the last short story in The Program series tomorrow.

Here‘s my progress for the Sprinting Through August readathon. I just finished doing a reading sprint. I sprinted for 2 hours. I finished chapter 13 and started chapter 14. Chapter 13 was 3 hours and I had 45 minutes left in it and then I started Chapter 14. Chapter 14 is also 3 hours.

Here‘s my progress for the Sprinting Through August readathon. I started the final book in The Program series. I did 2 reading sprints and filled out my reading sprint tracker. I read the first 12 chapters and I read a little bit of chapter 13. Chapter 13 is 3 hours long so it‘s going to take me awhile to finish it. This is interesting and I‘m curious about how this series is going to end.
