Monday Or Tuesday | Virginia Woolf

I‘ll be honest, I have no idea what I read - I just know Woolf‘s style isn‘t for me. So much double speak and description of minutiae for no real reason. Only one of the stories in this collection was enjoyable to me…but even then its point felt confused. #AuthorAMonth

Bailedbailed

I tried Virginia Woolf for the first time and she is definitely not for me. I hope other #AuthorAMonth readers have better luck!

TheBookHippie 🙃 I adore her. Sorry it didn‘t work for you. 3w
Soubhiville @TheBookHippie It‘s ok! I‘ve found so many other authors through #AAM, there‘s bound to be one that misses every once in a while. 📚🙂 (edited) 3w
Sace I feel better seeing this. I‘ve spent today debating whether to bail or not. I might give her one more day, but I‘ve been struggling with her. 3w

ChaoticMissAdventures I liked her Mrs Dalloway, but her racism has always been an issue with me and I have struggled to get into any others. 3w
Soubhiville @Sace I felt like the language was too dense. I was trying so hard to understand what she meant that it wasn‘t enjoyable at all. Did people ever talk like this or was she trying to make her works somewhat inaccessible? I‘d love to hear theories. 3w
AmyG Yeah, I read one of her books, forgot which one, but she is not for me either. 3w
Gissy I think the same. I will try some books I own but I don‘t feel that passion for her writing style as other people do🤷🏽‍♀️There are authors and writing style for every reader🙌📚 3w

From a bubble of privilege, she extolled idleness. I think one must be idle in order to become oneself, she wrote. 'If you have a profession you become part of that profession. With work you become a function. With idleness you become who you are.'

January 2025 Book #7
My experience with short story collection is that like/enjoy some stories more than others just like this collection. Some of stories were so beautifully written, others in my humble opinion, were like beautiful expressions but didn‘t feel like a short story for me. 3.5⭐️

I'm a day late, but I couldn't miss the final AP List for #threelistthursday!

6 that had an impact (and all have stories attached)
🩵 The Waste Land
🩵 Things Fall Apart
🩵 Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead
🩵 The Stranger
🩵 A Separate Peace
🩵 Waiting for Godot

1 Confession:
I've never read To Kill a Mockingbird. Nor have I seen the movie. (I know, I know. On both fronts.)

#classicschallenge 2025 @Lunakay #poetry #2025reads

I like text that presents language in unexpected ways. I didn‘t warm to this as much as I wanted to but there were parts that stood out. I could see how daring this was in its own time.

Lunakay Sounds good!🤓🩷 5mo

#VirginiaBloomsberries January's #buddyread discussion thread.

📚 What did you think of the various writing styles between stories?
📚 Did you enjoy any particular stories? If so, why?
📚 Do you like the stream-of-consciousness style she uses?

All are welcome to join us. Please let me know if you wish to be added/removed from the taglist.

Next up - Jacob's Room https://litsy.com/p/c3lpd2JsbHJN

Librarybelle Still playing catchup, but please keep me on the tag list. I fell behind but want to read her works in order, so it‘ll be a bit before I‘m up with the group. 6mo
Cuilin What I find interesting about Woolf‘s writing is that I really enjoy it while I‘m reading and two days later I forgotten the majority of what I‘ve read. I remember birds flying over a town. Oh and a group of women asking if men are worth the praise bestowed on them? 6mo

TheBookHippie I prefer her short stories and stream of consciousness over her long ones. I read a few twice to soak them in. I printed out Monday or Tuesday for my collage journal. 6mo
AllDebooks @Librarybelle please don't feel under pressure. It's a relaxed group. Enjoy them as and when you get to them. 😊 6mo
AllDebooks @Cuilin that's true. 🤣 I did enjoy Kew Garden with the view pint of the flower bed. 6mo
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie adding them to your journal is a good idea 💡 6mo

AnishaInkspill I will come back to this as soon as I have read it, but previously I have read Kew Garden and I really liked its style, I am looking forward to this 6mo
AllDebooks @AnishaInkspill Kew Garden was my favourite story. 😍 6mo
