I picked up this book from the LFL a while ago, forgot about it, found it again during a bookcase cleanout, and read it in the midst of cleaning the bathroom. Cute illustrations, interesting twists on known stories, and several tales of trickery.

This is apparently part of a series, but I‘m skeptical that the author‘s name is really hole in one. 😆

#Two4Tuesday
1. Latin. I learned a little bit while in school because medical terminology uses a lot of Latin, but learning roots, prefixes and suffixes isn't the same as learning to speak a language.
2. I haven't read any but my husband has some German books. There is a Grimms Fairytale that is German on the left and English on the right.
@TheSpineView

TheSpineView I've only read a few of the fairytales. I should get to it one day. Thanks for playing 1mo
InkedBookworm13 @TheSpineView I had someone gift my daughter a Grimms Fairytale book when she was born. I started reading it and quickly decided I was so not reading her any of them until she is older 😆 1mo

Tales From Beyond the Rainbow, by Pete Jordi Wood (2023)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Premise: A collection of queer fairy tales, myths, and legends from around the world.

Review: One of the most damaging lies we‘re told is that queer identities are a new and shocking rupture in human society; that‘s why projects like this one, which collect folklore from around the world that address queer themes and identities are so important. Cont

Mattsbookaday While the stories here have been altered to better fit contemporary sensibilities, I loved that the editor was careful to discuss how and why they made the changes they did, and provided references to where the more traditional versions can be found. My problems with this collection were more to do with my issues with folklore as a whole, so I can‘t really hold that against it.

Not a bad one in the bunch- can‘t wait to see which one I‘ll read in March. #bookspin

BkClubCare Yes! I have read only two: Wounded and Sandwich. Many on my tbr 🌟 4mo
Suet624 @BkClubCare usually, I end up putting old books that have been hanging around for a long time in my list and I‘m usually less than thrilled about the selection. This month I decided to include only books purchased within the last year or two. It feels good. Did you read Newman‘s first book? It‘s a good one. 4mo
BkClubCare No, haven‘t YET but it is has been on my tbr. I don‘t recall why exactly I read Sandwich when I did 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4mo

It took me a while to read this, but I really enjoyed it. Maitland mixes personal impressions of British forests with history, ecology, forestry and fairy tales, and does so in an engaging way.
I liked her retelling of the stories, some as storyteller variations of the original, some taking a different narrative perspective, some as sequels, and some reimagined in the modern day.
I particularly liked her Hansel and Gretel, the siblings grown,👇🏻

Bookwomble ... trauma-bonded and held in the healing bosom of Hansel's marital family.
Her Red Riding-Hood is one of the modern ones, and was quite dark and disturbing, I felt.
It was good to read slowly and savour each of the month- based chapters 4🌳

Bookwomble @The_Book_Ninja I'm crap at booking my annual leave as I find it hard to postpone client appointments, so I end up having leave mandated by my manager as the end of the holiday year approaches. So, short answer, yes, I'm skiving off work, catching up on reading 📚 and jamming up your feed! 😁 (edited) 4mo

First time reading this fairy tale. I didn‘t get to Grimms original tale but I read these two, the tagged one the better of the two as it felt more in the spirit of a Grimms tale. I enjoyed the illustrations more in the non tagged book but the tale was very simplistic and more cutesy.

TheBookHippie Oh fun!!! 5mo

I've been cat-sitting for my son while he and his partner were visiting friends, and taking advantage of being in the city, I'm having breakfast at Gran T's in Ancoats.
I'm enjoying Gossip from the Forest, with its blend of nature writing & the author's riffs on fairy stories.
It's a two-bookmark-book: the red for the page I'm on, the black for the notes, in, If I do say so myself, an excellent example of #BookmarkMatching 🔖🔖😁
