pickWhenever I'm having a bad book slump, I turn to graphic novels. I love ghosts and thought the cover of the first book was so wholesome. The story drew me in and I found myself caring about what would happen to Marjorie and Wendell. Eliza was a great addition and her story deeply emotional. However, Marjorie felt flat as a character. There was little to show who she was, why she liked Wendell and Eliza, etc. Overall, great story with a mediocre MC.
pick4✨ A very quick read with a cozy autumn feel. There is a young ghost so there is a sad back story. A struggling family trying to keep their business, and naturally a guy trying to take that business from them. I really enjoyed this cute story. It is more of a kids graphic novel so it was easy to predict what would happen. @Littlewolf1

pickRead this GN last night after my friend let me borrow it. Now I have to get the other 2 from her. A sad but hopeful story about a girl who has lost her mom & a ghost who is lonely. Very creative story & great artwork. Relatable characters & am excited to read more about this world.
I loved this YA graphic novel about Wendell, a ghost who escapes from Land of the Ghosts into the human world & winds up in the laundromat being run by young Marjorie after her mother's passing. The artwork in it was great & there were some surprisingly strong emotionally impactful moments throughout as it tackled themes of grief, identity, loneliness & belonging. Will def. be reading the follow-up!
so-soThis story was really cute, but there was just something about it that didn't make it perfect to me. Maybe it was the art...I didn't care for the style, except for the ghosts. The ghosts were done well and turned out really adorable. I'll probably continue and read the next book.

Sweet concept and characters but waaaay over the top; the ludicrousness of the villainy and the abject misery of the reality don't sit together comfortably.

pickA fantastic book! Funny and heartfelt and sad.
This book reminds me of the term tragic optimism. Originally coined by a holocaust survivor, it refers to the way those experiencing traumatic loss can find deeper meaning and purpose amidst the broken pieces. The opposite of toxic positivity, it admits the hardships and grief we all inevitably face.
This book has some of that. It‘s also funny and very cute. (Meme image shared for levity.)

It‘s sad, and someone in town should say something about a 13 year old running a laundry by herself - and maybe check in on the depressed dad? Marjorie is a thirteen-year-old with too much responsibility in the aftermath of her mother‘s death. A ghost, Wendell, helps her keep things together and is a much-needed friend. Really enjoyed this graphic novel. The follow-up, Delicates, is also good.

I keep seeing this at the store and had heard great things. I thought about picking it up (but I am gonna get my flooring done mid-next month and I really don't need to purchase more and more books !!!

pickThis is one of the cutest graphic novels I have read due to the illustrations and cute things the ghosts do. The basic lesson in the story is about friends. I mostly love the cute little ghost details and the fact that they just wander around in their sheet. They even had ghost police when Wendell got in trouble. I do have to say the author did such a great job in making one of the creepiest character with Mr Saubertuck

I really liked the colour palette in this - it really amplified how Marjorie was feeling - grief, depression, overwhelmed but it‘s also really pretty - so there is also hope…
so-soCute middle grade fantasy graphic novel. Vibrant art style. Quick-paced plot told in broad strokes. There are some issues with transition between the two converging storylines, but it is completed in a way that will pass with the intended audience. It is cute and entertaining, but does not have a higher complexity to it that would indicate it needing the higher reading levels. Perfect for the lower middle grade audience.

And it obviously takes place in a little Western PA town between Pittsburgh and Erie - which is where I live! pickAfter the loss of her mother, Majorie‘s father shuts down and she tries to manage the household and the family‘s laundromat on her own. Wendell is a ghost in a sheet and he accidentally creates problems for Marjorie at first. I love the color palette used in this graphic novel. The story is sad at first so the colors really suit it. I did think the villain was a little cheesy, but overall enjoyed this one. #screamathon
pickA pick- for this MG graphic novel. Marjorie‘s story, trying to cope with the death of her mother and her father‘s depression, was great. Wendell‘s story, as a new ghost not fitting in and escaping to the human world, could have used more depth. The villain was hard to swallow, thus the minus. Still a good (if not great) and quick read.

pickI realize that I forgot to post this one! To be quite honest, I loved this graphic novel. From the aesthetic and feel of the book to the story of loss, confidence, and triumph, I can't express in words just how much I loved it. I would even venture to say this might be on book that I would be willing to re-read again and again.
pickIt was a good book. The illustrations were okay but what notched it up to a 3 was the Wendell and the ghosts. I absolutely loved all of them and their story more than the mopey sad girl one. I mean 95% of the book she is sad, mopey and not happy. Sigh. Ending was great, made up for the beginning of the book.
