And no evidence that it was murder. The hint of racism appears again and that turned me off quite a bit so that I won‘t continue the series. Saved, just barely, by some instances of lol humor and a nice analysis of how changes in laws create motives for murder. #authoramonth

Read for #AuthorAMonth #DorothySayers this was my first experience with Lord Peter Wimsey & first Sayers book. I listened to this one on audio & mostly in the car running errands & found it entertaining overall, more impressive that it was her first novel. It‘s dated, at times racist & classist but I liked the main character & supporting characters & might pick up another in the series at some point.⬇️

I read the Lord Peter Windy books years ago loved them all! This time I thought I‘d start at the beginning and read the first in the series. Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, but Busman‘s Honeymoon is still my favorite. Also, this time I seemed to notice more the prejudices of the time. Read for #authoramonth

I‘ve barely heard of Dorothy Sayers, so I thought I‘d try out the #authoramonth challenge. What I thought would be a novelette turned out to be a BBC audio drama, which I think is good enough: the drama really brought the posh “cheerio/righty-ho/old boy” language to life. Murder isn‘t my favourite genre, and I found the plot hard to follow with so many characters, and couldn‘t honestly get engaged with many of them.

Books, you know, Charles, are like lobster shells: we surround ourselves with them and then grow out of them and leave them behind as evidences of our earlier stages of development.

This is my 3rd Peter Wimsey novel (even though it's the 1st), and I can tell you that Sayers's novels get better in the series (THE NINE TAYLORS was superior to this one). Beware: the characters reflect the culture of their time, and some do express racial/anti-Semitic views. I low-pick it mostly because I adored Wimsey, whose foppish wit and slight arrogance reminded me of Percy Blakeney (aka The Scarlet Pimpernel).

I've not seen much love for Whose Body this #AuthorAMonth but honestly I dug it. Maybe I'm just a sucker for an inventive if gruesome crime? And then I found bk 2 to be a bit annoying and it felt like I was reading something by a person that didn't like women very much. So, yes, Harriet, I'm giving this series that same sideeye you're currently giving Whimsey. I think ill continue but maybe not soon.

Amateur detective Wimsey‘s brother the Duke has been arrested for the murder of their sister‘s fiancée. The duke, the sister, the fiancée, some couples, the hired help are all at a hunting lodge when a gunshot is heard in the middle of the night. It turns out all the suspicious parties, including the deceased, have very big secrets. An excellent detailed investigation but I wasn‘t too pleased with the resolution. It felt contrived so the ⬇️

I am absolutely living these Lord Peter Whimsey books. They're so unexpectedly hilarious! I'm so glad this was a pick for #aam.
