I really, REALLY enjoyed this - a definite slow burner, the intensity built up over the course of the story, but the depiction of the lads' descent into themselves as pain, misery and eventual insanity overcame them was just brilliant. I feel like I walked every step of the way with them. The ambiguous and rather rushed ending has left me feeling a little deflated though. Hence 4🌟, as opposed to 5.

Reading ahead for #losersclub2018 —- trying to pull myself out of a book slump 🤓

Zelma Stephen King always seems to pull me out of a reading slump. (Or Bill Bryson) 6y
alisiakae Are those peaches mixed in with the blueberries? If so, I had the same thing at breakfast! 6y
JulAnna @4thhouseontheleft Yes! Peaches and cherries and blueberries! 💕 6y

alisiakae @JulAnna I 💙 peaches and blueberries together, and both are in season locally where I live! 6y
Soubhiville The Long Walk is my favorite King! It terrified me as a teen and has stayed with me. Also, your snack looks perfect! 6y
RadicalReader @JulAnna I love how fantastic of a snack fruit is quickly one of my favorites enjoyed some perfect strawberries today 5y

My July books read - not a whopper of a month but there were 4 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 reads - two of which will rival for my best book of the year (The Song of Achilles and Circe, both by Madeline Miller). Also started The Stand (Stephen King) for #losersclub2018, and The Clockmaker's Daughter (Kate Morton), both of which will be finished off during August.

Making slow but steady process through this expanded edition for #losersclub2018
Currently on page 337 of 1325 so not too far to go 😂😂
But my god, it's such a weight. Not conducive to reading for a prolonged period of time. I'll probably have repetitive strain injury by the time I'm finished.

Louise You can do it! 💪🏻📚💪🏻 6y
SexyCajun Lol. So funny. I feel the same way! I‘m actually enjoying this one so I‘m probably gonna skip the next book coming up. This ones really gonna take awhile because I have to take a break and read another book or two in between! 6y

Re-read for #losersclub2018
One of my all time favorite books. One of the reasons that I like SK so much is that one can always tell that he is an avid, appreciative reader. In his writing you find gems like this “time to sit and have a good long conversation with a book” and “and some of the books were old friends”. 💕📚😊

Reviewsbylola This is on my TBR. King is hit or miss for me so we‘ll see how it goes! 6y
JulAnna @Reviewsbylola I hope that you like it! I have always felt that his characters are so real in this one! 6y
WhatThePuck @Reviewsbylola Same. It's usually his collection of short stories that I don't like. 6y

@jhod @Christine11
I must apologise that I'm only just getting around to posting your books for #whodunituk and #lmpbc.
I put them back on my shelf and promptly forgot about them 😫😫
They're in the post today so expect them in a couple of days

jhod Are you reading the Ruth Ware on pigeonhole? I've also signed up for the Paula Daly, the French Girl and the Lisa Jewell. Such a good app! 6y
ShookBelf @jhod I certainly am and I'm really enjoying it. I've only signed up to The Anomaly and The Possible World at the moment. July is going to be a slow read month for me as I need to read The Stand for #losersclub2018 - a chunkster if ever there was one. 6y
TrishB I‘ve just posted your next #whodunnituk today - good timing 😁 The Stand is awesome 👍🏻 6y

jhod My in real life book club book this month is The Outsider. Having never read a Stephen King (and unsure I will like horror) what do you think as a starting point? Should i...? Thanks King fans! @ShookBelf @TrishB 6y
ShookBelf @TrishB I first read The Stand 20 years ago and remember it being awesome so I'm really looking forward to the reread. 6y
ShookBelf @jhod I haven't read The Outsider yet - it is sitting patiently on my TBR pile - but from what other people have said it's a fantastic book. I really like Stephen King but I don't necessarily think his books are horror - more chiller/suspense/supernatural. 6y
jhod Thank you very helpful! 6y
TrishB @jhod The Outsider has some horror/supernatural but I didn‘t think it was too scary (but hard to judge as I don‘t really get scared and have read King forever!!) 6y
Christine11 That‘s great @ShookBelf - thank you and I‘ll keep an eye out ! And @jhod , I just finished The Outsider last night. I‘ve never read any King before but I really loved it and I‘m not a horror fan because I‘m a bit of a scaredy-cat. It definitely had some scary elements but more of a thriller I‘d say ! 😊 6y
jhod @TrishB @christine11 great thanks both!! 6y

#currentread for #LosersClub2018.
Thought I had read this before but I don't recognise any of the stories. Having said that, I'm LOVING reading it for the first time. These short stories definitely up the 'spooky/creepy' ante. One in particular made my flesh crawl this afternoon (I Am The Doorway).

An enjoyable read 😊 If you like continuity and no spoilers, be sure to read the Mr Mercedes trilogy before you read this. One of the characters from those books shows up in The Outsider and tells some backstory from the trilogy. However, this is great on its own! It was nice to read some new SK while reading old SK for #losersclub2018 🤓
