Lovely War | Julie Berry

Pickpick

I'm usually bored by world war books (there are too many!) but oh my gosh, this book made me cry. Haunting, romantic, and heartbreaking, with a fascinating frame of Greek mythology (!!!!), plus the prettiest cover of the year. #pop19 #bookinspiredbymythologylegendorfolklore #readingwomenchallenge #mythretelling @thereadingwomen

Starting this one today. It‘s gotten so much #Litsylove and I‘m excited to dive in. Also using it for my #mythretelling prompt in the #readingwomen challenge.

Despite the slow burn and length of time it took me to get through this YA fantasy, I ultimately ended up enjoying it. I loved the mythology and world-building, but the plot itself kind of plodded along. The story is very much rooted in Japanese folklore, and I loved that aspect! Enough for me to pick up the sequel when it is published later this year.

tjwill Happy birthday! 🎉🎂 May I ask you a strange question? May I use a screenshot of your review in a presentation that I am giving? I could use one of my own, but would prefer to use someone else‘s since I‘m also showing my profile. It‘s about YA Lit and bookish social media. 9mo
4thhouseontheleft @tjwill Sure, that‘s fine! Thank you for asking first! 9mo
