Forgotten Trail | Claire Kells

Thunderstorms woke me early this morning so I got up. Coffee in hand, I delved into this book and am about 30% read.

This series isn't groundbreaking but it's an enjoyable read with an unique investigator-Harland is a investigator with the National Parks Service.

This series is fun and it's a great way to wrap up a staycation week.

A lovely introduction to a lot of the national parks around the US!

Separated out by regions, there‘s brief blurbs for all sorts of national parks. Then there‘s more in depth explorations of several of the parks.

The adorable artwork illustrates animals, plants, notable landmarks, & exciting phenomena in all of these locations.

This was a delight to share with my nibling, and I can‘t wait to take them to see these places! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

This is one of those books that ruins the dreams and silly ideas you have in your head regarding if you had made different choices in life. Specifically, it shows the many ways in which being a park ranger is frustrating and at times even traumatic. The book started off as a series of stories conveying how hard the ranger life is. As it progressed, it focused more on the lives of two specific rangers with results both tragic and touching. 4/5

3☆ The premise of the book was very intriguing, and the authors description of the National Parks she visited-all but 1 park, were great. Alas her personality throughout the book is irritating and way too self centered. And she wonders why she is where she is!

DieAReader 🥳Great! 👋🏻🤣😬…next! 2mo
Crazeedi @CBee thank you for hosting! I've read 3 of the 4 numbers from my kindle!! Whoohoo! 2mo

Great travelogue of the most crowded spots of protected nature in the nation, with a good bit of excellent social commentary about who travels and why and expectations, as well as many varied musings that come along with each park. It's neat the author decided to attempt to collect a junior ranger badge by completing booklets and their activities for every nation park visited. Light, humorous, informative, reflective. Good for this time of year.

This was definitely a case of the right book at the right time. With so much holiday craziness I only had time to read in little sips, which turned out to be the perfect way to read this story.
In 1898 Alex joins a field study in Yellowstone National Park and shocks the other scientists by being a woman 😱 The story touches on conservation, Native American displacement, feminism, and the nature of science.

This is a fascinating book about the beginnings of the US Forest Service and our relationship with public lands. The scenes that describe the 1910 wildfire in Idaho are fast paced, and the background information about forestry is interesting.
