This book took a while to get going, but once it did it took off in true Crichton style. I had to crack up at the scenes of the stay at home dad fielding calls from his fighting kids while trying to save the world.

This is the final book in my 2023 #ReadingUSA challenge. If you‘d like to see the full round up it‘s here: http://www.allthebooksihaventread.com/blog-1/2023/12/28/i-read-a-book-set-in-eac...

I love the movie so much I had a hard time getting into this, but loved the reading by Anne Hathaway so it‘s a pick. I realize people love this book and I am probably making your skin crawl. Sorry about that!

This is my Kansas book for #ReadingUSA - challenge complete!

This chilling dystopian novel was perfect for early morning reading while huddled under a blanket. How would you survive if winter never ended?

I enjoyed this quick read. It was like Groundhog Day set at Christmas. The perfect audiobook to listen to while doing December chores. Set in Utah- I‘m really close to finishing #ReadingUSA. #LittenListen #BookSpinBingo #wintercosy #averymerryreadathon #wrapitupreadathon #roaringwolf #holidate #wintergams2021 #mistletoemaniacs

I enjoyed this book about a women run traveling library in depression era Kentucky. I would have rated it higher but the ending seemed rushed. #CrushTheRush #ReadingUSA Kentucky

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick You're absolutely crushing this! 3y
Bookwormjillk @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick it was a fun reading day- I was at 90% for both books. 3y
Bookwormjillk @celtichik good to know! 3y

celtichik Oops wrong book! It was the troublesome creek one 3y
Bookwormjillk @celtichik 🤪that‘s on my TBR too! 3y
celtichik I loved that one...but it seemed like one of those books that did a 20 page wrap up when it needed a lot more to finish. Ugh. 🤣 3y

#WeeklyForecast 25/20

For this week I hope to read these three books: the tagged one for #1001books, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet for #ATY2020 and America for Beginners for #Booked2020. Especially looking forward to Hotel, which I am starting right now!

squirrelbrain I loved Hotel when I read it last year for #readingusa- and I learned a lot too. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! 😘 4y
Cinfhen Looks like a promising week 💗 4y
Cuilin Im curious about America for Beginners 🤔 love to know how that goes. 4y

Liz_M I really liked 10:04, but the author/narrator was so hyper-local, grounding so much in Brooklyn (including my food co-op) I'm really 4y
Liz_M Really curious to hear what you think of it! 4y
Megabooks I really like Ben Lerner. 4y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks @Liz_M To be honest I tried this one before and couldn‘t get through it. I hope it will be easier this time! 4y
CarolynM I read Hotel a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Look forward to seeing your review. 4y
BarbaraBB @Liz_M I just read about that co-op! Are you a member there? It sounds so good! 4y
BarbaraBB @CarolynM I enjoyed it too. Sweet and touching without getting cheesy! 4y
Liz_M I am! It is notorious enough to have been profiled in The New Yorker: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/11/25/the-grocery-store-where-produce-me... 4y
BarbaraBB @Liz_M Wow, thanks, I will read it. So you can‘t wear open toe-shoes 😀? Do you know Ben Lerner or how the storyline came into this book? 4y
Liz_M I assumed the book is closely based on the author's experiences. I don't know the author, but have probably seen him around. 😉 4y
BarbaraBB @Liz_M Very good, that article. And such a cool concept. And your have ‘probably seen him around‘. I am star struck 🤩. You see famous people probably all the time 😀 4y
BarbaraBB @Cuilin I am halfway through now. I will tag you when I‘m finished! 4y

This was an exceptionally moving read. I was absorbed from the first page until the last. I wanted a better epilogue but sometimes real life doesn‘t deliver a satisfying ending. This book sheds light on the current boarder issues from all sides and it‘s humanity at its best & worst. For an unfiltered true story this is a perfect alternative to American Dirt. Thank you @TrishB for sharing this with me. #ReadingUSA #NewMexico #OwnVoices

Cinfhen There‘s also something stirring about the cover. It‘s haunting and soothing 4y

BarbaraBB Wow. Stacked. 4y
Hooked_on_books I thought this one was great. He has a really interesting perspective. I like this cover, but I think the US cover works better for the content. 4y

Yes, it‘s traumatic and distressing in places with depictions of abuse (physical and sexual). However, this is a must-read, given that it is a semi-autobiographical novel as well as a #bannedbook- we owe it to the author to allow her message to be heard.

@TrishB @Cinfhen @Balibee146 @BarbaraBB - do give it a go, it has an underlying positivity too, and it fits the #bannedbook prompt for #booked2020....

Librarybelle Good choice! 4y

#ReadingUSA 2019 #Vermont. I really liked this book and had never heard of it before searching for a book set in Vermont. Historical interest of mental illness in women in the 40‘s and also in the 70‘s. I would recommend this book.

Now to find one for #Nevada.

Librarybelle 😁 5y
TheAromaofBooks Fear & Loathing is kind of a crazy book, but Hunter Thompson can be hilarious when he is in stride. 5y
