Mehso-so

That didn‘t last nearly long enough but at least I‘m younger than when the author said you really need to start thinking about people dealing with your crap once you are dead. My parents, bless their hearts, totally dealt with their stuff ahead of time.

TEArificbooks Yeah my mom is a purger so she said I won‘t get a lot of money but at least I won‘t have to go through much stuff. I read Sipsworth and that lady was the last one left in her family so she got rid of everything, there was no one left to give heirlooms too so even got rid of her photo albums. Just kept the minimum number of clothes dishes etc. it did inspire me to let things go 1mo
SamAnne My mom did an excellent job of purging. I am committed to tackling it this so this winter. 1mo
mcctrish @TEArificbooks @SamAnne in the past I‘ve tried to give stuff away through Buy nothing groups or sell on FB marketplace but I get frustrated with messaging back and forth and I just want it all gone 1mo

ncsufoxes After my dad passed away last year my mom purged a ton of stuff. My MIL on the other hand complains that no one wants all her junk. I do think about the amount of stuff we have (especially after moving last year). It‘s a goal of mine in the next few years to really start to go through things & purge. I know that my kids aren‘t going to want half of the stuff I find sentimental 1mo
mcctrish @ncsufoxes I remember when my husband‘s grandmother asking me if I wanted her collection of jugs ( she had 50 at least) and I said I‘d love of couple ( wrong answer) in the will I got her second tier crystal and my sister law got the fur coat, sapphire ring and Diamond earrings 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 1mo
AmyG My kids didn‘t want most of their grandparents things. Only the mid-century modern furniture…they fought over that. No china, crystal etc. kind of sad. 1mo
mcctrish @AmyG I‘m surprised with the crystal, cocktails are trending and served in old school glasses - I know I‘m thankful for the fancy glass wear I inherited and I‘d be happy to have china I didn‘t have to pay for ( but some of it is ridiculously fussy like Old Country Roses or whatever it‘s called - my Nana‘s second tier China 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ her top tier was GORGEOUS and my sister got it ) 1mo
5feet.of.fury Oh man, I‘ve cleaned out after 2 relatives that were borderline hoarding situations and it was so stressful on top of already being sad and stressful. But people asked if I was going to get a storage unit, and I decided if I didn‘t need it now then I wasn‘t going to need it ever. We didn‘t have anything too fancy for heirlooms but I did keep the Pyrex with the green daisies. 1mo
AmyG @mcctrish They took the old school barware. Anything mid-century. 1mo
Bette When did the book say to start…I know I‘m behind. 🫣 1mo
mcctrish @Bette by 65, I‘m just under the wire 1mo
Susanita It‘s a daunting task for sure. 🥴 1mo
Bette Rats…..I‘m behind 🫤😂 I better put down my book 📚🤣 1mo

“Arrange the books in a way that looks good and makes sense to you—whether that‘s alphabetical by author, by subject, or by color, width, or height—or even just randomly.”

My sensation of horror just grew as I read this entire sentence. What kind of monster is Martha Stewart? Organizing by color, I‘ve seen (anxiety-inducing, but you do you) - but by width? Height? RANDOMLY?!

I don‘t think I can do this.

GingerAntics Clearly she‘s been hanging around with Snoop again. The contact high must be stunning!!! 1mo
Susanita @GingerAntics 😂😂😂 1mo
thebacklistbook I have done by height within alphabetical by author last name before. Except when to do it would mess up a series. 1mo
Amiable I mean, I agree with the comment about arranging books in a way that makes sense to you. That‘s how my shelves are organized—it makes sense to me. I just don‘t see how arranging by height makes any sense—I‘d never be able to find what I‘m looking for! 1mo

I struggled with the first half. I probably could benefit from putting in the work to declutter my mental space, but I feel like I can‘t even begin to think about that until my physical environment is under control. So to me, things were addressed backwards. That changed once I got to the second half. While I didn‘t find anything earth shatteringly new, it is always helpful to hear how others do it and to pluck out the pertinent tidbits.

I laughed at this section probably more than I should have. 😂 Been decluttering preparing for a move that is going to be happening either in August or September so mortality has been peek-a-booing around every corner. 💀🪦🫠

A really interesting look at getting rid of things. Lots of tips and methods for deciding what to keep. A simple easy read. Though I disagree about the book parts. You can never have too many. 4*

As a #longtimefed I kept my own journal of what I did each day. Among other things, it made it easier to prepare my accomplishments at evaluation time.

Here are 5 things I did in a particularly memorable week.
1. Met with boss for weekly progress review. Provided a written summary on which boss took copious notes.
2. Made follow-up calls on all discussed projects. Left messages because nobody answered. Because they were out doing the work. ⬇️

Susanita 3. Addressed an average of 15 calls/visits a day from staff of the supported organization. (Yes, I was the de facto office receptionist.) 9mo
Susanita 4. Attended a meeting about the highest priority project. Sent a detailed follow-up email to all attendees and my boss who couldn‘t be bothered. 9mo
Susanita 5. Got ambushed by boss‘s boss in an impromptu meeting and explained everything discussed in point one. 9mo

Susanita It‘s been twenty years (!) since I was in that scenario, and yes I‘m still bitter. 9mo
Tamra How about treating people like the qualified professionals they were determined to be when they were hired? That means assuming they are doing their jobs without babysitting. 9mo
Leftcoastzen I hear you ! Here they fired two guys from VA who help when Vets struggle with mortgages. It‘s really efficient to push more vets towards homelessness! 9mo
Leftcoastzen When I got deeper into the story they help any vet with any financial hardship 9mo
TheBookHippie I‘m just exasperated… 9mo
TheBookHippie @Tamra right?! 9mo
TheBookHippie It‘s Putins orders, it‘s so unreal. 9mo
Susanita @tamra Right?!? Obviously, I had my share of bad managers, but I also had good managers. In any case, the structure for monitoring work is in the office where the work takes place. He‘s already admitted it was all a ruse anyway. 9mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Susanita they just want it all in an email (probably an unsecured email) that anyone on X knows is out there, that can be captured as it arrives by any country that wants to know what our gov is doing, and then can make counter-measures accordingly, plus know which workers are best to target to get more access to whatever they want. It‘s a huge national security risk. Whoever hacks those mails know who is involved in everything from ⤵️ 9mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ from fire fighting to nuclear development to translating Russian along with their name & email. I am a civilian who has never worked in gov and I can see that as a huge security risk. 9mo
Susanita @Leftcoastzen So much for caring about veterans!!! 9mo
Susanita @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @TheBookHippie I figured they‘d just use AI to review the tasks and justify canning people. Or as one more way to mock federal employees, but it makes sense that they would also use it to provide free intel to Russia or whoever. 9mo
dabbe Stephen Colbert's reply to Musk's so called mandate:
To: Elon Musk
Subject: What did I do last week?
1. Your mom.
2. Your mom.
3. Your mom.
4. Your mom.
5. Your mom.

I can't even come up with an adequate phrase to describe this arse. 👊🏻❣️👊🏻

melissajayne If you go to The Breakdown on Substack, you‘ll find some interesting responses from people who responded to Elon‘s email 9mo
melissajayne One government employee wrote this: 1. Stuck pins into Elon voodoo doll
2. Stuck pins into Trump voodoo doll
3. Stuck pins into RFK Jr voodoo doll
4. Stuck pins into MAGA hat
5. Went to buy more pins

Captivatedbybooks My poor sister was off (we were going to a funeral) and was so worried. Since she had her laptop they told her to log on and reply to then get that notice at 2pm it was necessary to reply. Like WTF 9mo
lil1inblue @melissajayne I don't know this employee, but I am sure we would be besties. 😍 9mo
Susanita @Captivatedbybooks I‘m sorry for your loss, and I‘m sorry your sister is going through this added stress. These people have no souls. 9mo
Leniverse Man Carrying Thing did a great skit about this: https://youtu.be/ottkSQYunnk?si=KcFzp-HSAGltVxq5 9mo
Susanita @Leniverse 👍🏻👍🏻 9mo
ncsufoxes My husband is a contractor with the National Cancer Institute. Since he has a govt email address he gets all these emails. I told him he should say 1) I‘m reading your 20 plus emails a day 2) I‘m trying to find a treatment/drug to solve f-n cancer (which will make the govt money) let me do my job 9mo
Susanita @ncsufoxes Ugh. Nothing boosts productivity like constantly having to justify yourself. 9mo

An interesting look at decluttering, tidying and cleaning. This is by the TidyDad Instagram and it's a good read with some useful tips. Plus a bit of humour along the way.
