pickI have read this book to my daughter a thousand times. And we both still love it. The illustrations are so detailed (and distinctively British) and we love playing "spot the..." games.
As an adult I find the words deeply poignant - the first time I read it I got all choked up. I believe that it's based on Allan Ahlberg's last memories of his father before he left to fight in WW2. He never came home.
