Phew 😮💨 It‘s taken me many many weeks to get through this chunkster, at almost 900 pages it was very dense but so interesting and I felt like I learned a lot I didn‘t know about the British empire. The author made it easy to understand and broke it up nicely so the chapters weren‘t too long. A depressing read at times but I‘m glad I read about an important part of history which we don‘t get taught in school but should
They [formerly revolutionary ideas] would be worn with pride and proclaimed, after a remarkably short time, to be traditional and quintessentially English.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes! It‘s been a great day. Hubby surprised me with the two books pictured. Really looking forward to exploring both.
Good: A well written overview of the four men and their 1912 presidential race.
Bad: Less depth than I had hoped for.

The audiobook quality is TERRIBLE! It was clearly edited and the post-production is awful. Every few minutes it sounds like the narrator has walked into a bathroom. On the bright side, the author already mentioned that the entire territory of the Mongol emperor, Chagatai, encompasses the full territory he covers in this book, so I‘m switching to Khan:Empire of Silver for #readingasia2021 #tajikistan
We've seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it,
Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy.
And this effort very nearly succeeded.
But while democracy can be periodically delayed,
It can never be permanently defeated.
In this truth, in this faith, we trust.
For while we have our eyes on the future,
history has its eyes on us.
