Catching up on yesterday's #AugustGrrrl @Cinfhen

Sara Crewe started life as a #RichGirl, but a sudden change of fortune left her living in the school attic, working as a servant.

The mug is from the very lovely Jane Booth Ceramics on Etsy, who makes lovely literary & bird mugs. And currently has an Outlander thing going on... https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/JaneBoothCeramics

TrishB That's lovely ❤ 2y
rubyslippersreads So pretty ... ❤️ A Little Princess! 2y

RachelO @Cinfhen @rubyslippersreads @trishb It's so nicely done - and I've never seen these illustrations used outside of the book before. 2y

If I was a #richgirl I would swap out my kitchen cupboard library for something more like this. A girl can dream. #augustgrrrl

Caroline2 😍 2y
booksandsympathy Kitchen cupboard library? 2y
GabrielleDubois Too tidy for me, I wouldn't dare bother one book... But really beautiful, you're right! 2y
Cinfhen I could enjoy a room like that ❤️ 2y
Jas16 @booksandsympathy lol. I posted pictures awhile ago but I know it's strange. I don't have a lot of room in my apartment so some of kitchen cupboards are full of books 2y

I grew up loving Nancy Drew and being envious of her blue convertible! #sassy #anditsaugust #richgirl #augustgrrrl

Cinfhen 😍 2y
MamaGina These were the editions I read as a young girl. Nancy is the reason I'm still a mystery lover today!🤓 2y
Laalaleighh I remember the plots to all of these. 2y

To Marry an English Lord | Gail MacColl, Carol Wallace

In the years following the Civil War, over 100 American heiresses married into the British peerage, essentially trading their fortunes for titles. This book is heavily illustrated and written in snappy little sections of informational tidbits that make it a ton of fun to page through.

Cinfhen Of course you own this book!!! #RoyalFun 💞💍👑 2y
saresmoore Ooh, this looks fun! 2y
rubyslippersreads Love this book! Didn't Julian Fellowes use it as research material for Downton Abbey? 2y

ValerieAndBooks I knew a lot of them did this, but over 100?? Wow. Are they all mentioned/listed, or is it just the better-known ones? 2y
erzascarletbookgasm Sounds interesting. I like illustrated books. 2y
Melissa_J I like the sounds of this one! 2y
smilingshelves This is the first book I ever put on my Goodreads to read list, and I still haven't tracked down a copy to read. Someday! 2y
batsy Ooh interesting, this is like the nonfic Buccaneers 2y
LeahBergen @Cinfhen Haha! I think you are starting to figure me out. 😉 2y
LeahBergen @saresmoore It is. It has useful bits of esoterica like "who outranks who" in a bunch of earls, barons or dukes. You know, stuff you think about when reading ... or watching Masterpiece Theatre. ? 2y
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads Yes! I read that somewhere, too. 👍🏻 2y
LeahBergen @ValerieAndBooks I don't think all of them are mentioned but many of the lesser-known ones are brought up (especially if there was some sort of scandal attached to them!) 2y
LeahBergen @erzascarletbookgasm Every page has a few small illustrations. 👍🏻 2y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J This would be right up your alley. 😆 2y
LeahBergen @smilingshelves Book Outlet has copies (with the newer/prettier cover). $9.99 Canadian (so less if you are in the US). 😀 2y
LeahBergen @batsy Yes! I find that whole period fascinating. Frances Hodgson Burnett also wrote an adult novel with this theme (and #PersephoneBooks publishes it). 2y
Sarah83 May I have a look inside? 😉 2y
batsy @LeahBergen Thank you! I'd seen the lovely Persephone edition here but forgot to look up what it was about 👍 2y
