The Great Gatsby | 
pickI enjoyed this classic very much. It had been on my reading list for some time now and I wanted to read a easier version with my students, so I dived in. I did not know that the actual part surrounding Gatsby is this short, but I enjoyed the very detailed descriptions of his feelings. Fitzgerald used a very flowery language I didn‘t expect.

pickA long overdue reread. I can‘t believe this would be on any high school reading list because what would a teen relate to in this novel?
I can‘t say I enjoyed Fitzgerald‘s writing style, but I did enjoy examination of Nick‘s loss of innocence about humanity and the American promise of infinite progress.

1. My high school copy of THE GREAT GATSBY. All my notes as a 16-year-old are still in it. I have kept it through the years (now 42 years old). It is held together with a rubber band. 💚
2. That would be early 1980s: all books by Sidney Sheldon, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Rosamond du Jardin, and my precious Harlequin romances.

pick4✨ I remember reading this in high school, but not quite understanding/remembering how it ended. As an adult I think I was able to absorb more of the story with understanding. This story is short, but it is expertly crafted. It‘s about love, loss, sacrifice, jealousy, bad decisions, and unlikely friends. I‘m glad I decided to do a reread.
Oh man what a day. I‘m going to chill out for a bit and read a chapter before going home.
I‘ve had these clothespin lights forever, but finally set them up. Excuse my messy bookshelves. I‘m working on cleaning out my library.
I re-read the book last month in anticipation of this, now let‘s see how closely the musical will follow.
pickThis was definitely one of the best classics I've read. I'm trying to determine what and how I feel about the story. It definitely impacted me. My mind is turning it over and over. Tragedy of course. Misguided love. Depravity of human nature. Triumph of the soul. All these things. 3 words: I loved it. Read it
Classic. What more needs said? Second time with this one. Let's see how it impacts me at this point in my life. Books like to do that. The words stay the same but our view changes.

so-soAn important read but other Fitzgerald books are better. “Babylon revisited” explores similar criticisms of the American Dream, over indulgence, wealth and poverty while being more interesting and attention grabbing than the Great Gatsby.

This was my first time reading a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald so i wasnt sure what to expect especially since the reviews for it over the years are very up and down but i have to say i did enjoy it even tho the first few chapters came off repetitive but overall the connection for the story came together beautifully. The Characters were very enjoyable and interesting to read about.

so-soFirst, Gyllenhaal is a surprisingly adept celebrity narrator. 🤩 Knowing the story of how this book wasn‘t popular until it was mass printed for soldiers in WWII, I can see how the setting and hypermasculinity of Buchanan and Gatsby made this a hit. I can see why many high schoolers, myself included, relate to the gossipy elements of this story. That said, as an adult, this is just okay. It‘s been way over analyzed for a mediocre book. 🤷🏻♀️
panThe Great Gatsby well illustrates the hollow misery of a life lived primarily for self and money. I did not much like the story or characters, but I can admire the way Fitzgerald used tone and beautifully crafted sentences to tell the story beneath the surface.
pickI'm back! It's been so long. I went through a streak where I just couldn't read and I hated it. In order to get myself back into reading, I went to an old favourite - The Great Gatsby (my well-worn copy is pictured here). Hoping that now that I've finished this read, I can get back into it more consistently. #bookoneof2023
