#Read2025 #SeriesLove2025

I finished #13 in the Trixie Belden series for BobWhiteBuddies a couple of weeks ago but have been really bad about posting reviews. This was one of my favorites growing up. I was excited about the island setting & sailing & Trixie getting a powder blue swimsuit 🩵 & Jim noticing the color (Jim ruined me for high school boys!) 😉😂 I also liked it when he & Trixie dressed up & went to the “dive bar” to listen & spy. ⬇️

DebinHawaii … Overall good fun. 👍🏼 3d

Sparklemn I may have to reread this. Forgot about the blue swimsuit. I seem to remember someone noticing it matched her eyes. 🙂 15h

I really enjoyed the 13th Trixie Belden book. The banter and teasing between the Bob-Whites was just like I remembered - and just the right amount of flirting between Jim and Trixie!! 😍

@BookmarkTavern was saying how it would be fun to know who ghost-wrote which books, so I did a little research yesterday, but it just looks like that list doesn't exist! The best information I could find is linked below, but it's a lot of hypotheticals. ⬇

TheAromaofBooks https://trixie-belden.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Authors

While I was looking this up, I found a couple of other interesting articles about the originator of Trixie, Julie (Tatham) Campbell. Both talk a little bit about how Campbell literally wanted to create an anti-Nancy Drew 😂 who wasn't perfect and had pesky things like chores interfere with life.

https://bookfever.com/trixie-belden-series/ - I thought it was interesting that Campbell also ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) created the Ginny Gordon books (which I've never read but do come across from time to time) and also wrote a few of the Cherry Ames books - another series I've always meant to read!

https://www.series-books.com/trixiebelden/trixiebelden.html - I liked this article because I personally 100% agree with the writer of it about Nancy vs. Trixie - I love both!! But for entirely different reasons. ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) So what did you all think about this month's story? I really enjoyed it but also found it kind of... I am not sure what the word is I'm looking for. Not unique? Like I wouldn't especially remember this one vs any of the others in the series, if that makes sense😆 But I really enjoyed the interactions within the gang (minus Dan, of course!), and thought it was fun to see the Bob Whites learn about sailing. I'd love to hear your thoughts! 4d

BookmarkTavern I did miss Dan, especially since he had played such an important part in the last one. And I loved the trick with the map! But also, this resolution was particularly satisfying. Because not only do we see al the BobWhites and their compassion for their adopted community, but as soon as Trixie learns the background of the “villain” she is instantly empathetic and hoping to not make things worse for him. And the other BobWhites following her lead! 4d
TheAromaofBooks @BookmarkTavern - Yes!! I loved the way that everyone was really willing to take into account the situation of the “bad guy“ and we're left feeling like he is going to get the support he needs to build a better life. It kind of ties into Jim's dream of having a boys' camp to help kids in similar situations. I also loved the little connection to Brian getting to meet a medical student and encouraging him with that dream as well. 2d

A summer vacation gets upended when the BobWhites find a mysterious letter hinting at a map & a lost fortune. It‘s up to the club to track down the money, only someone else is looking too.

A solid mystery, & a pretty good resolution too! I really wish I could find a list of the ghost writers. Who leaves out Dan, who tones down Mart‘s bullying. I also really appreciate how Trixie‘s empathy is forefront through this whole story! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

TheAromaofBooks I really liked this one!! The banter was fun and the mystery felt kinda sorta like something that could happen?? 😂 5d
BookmarkTavern @TheAromaofBooks it felt much more grounded! The Blinking Eye really felt like it was more of a Nancy Drew level of unrealistic intrigue, as much as I loved the Nancy Drew books. 😂 This one seemed more in keeping with Trixie‘s gal next door vibes. 5d
BookmarkTavern And the ending! I have so many thoughts about the ending for our discussion post. 5d
Cheryl_Russell Loved this series! My granddaughter is reading them now. 5d

Trixie is 14 years old, so I don't think "frustrated" exactly qualifies as a "big word." The website I had been using for info on the Trixie books has disappeared, but I have a feeling this isn't one of my favorite ghost writers. Anybody have a source for those? #bobwhitebuddies

Reading some Trixie for #BobWhiteBuddies for my #HyggeHour tonight, along with tea & some dried mini bananas for a sweet treat.

W/ old friends coming for a visit, Trixie & the other BobWhites get swept up in the glamour of NYC, a strange statue, & a mysterious poem hinting at a great treasure.

Much bigger stakes in this one, & Trixie‘s recklessness reaches a new high. I really liked how integral Dan was at the end. Loved the intro of Dr Joe, & poor Ms Trask having to corral a bunch of headstrong kids while dealing w/ her own problems.🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

I enjoyed April's #BobWhiteBuddies read even if it did feel a little ridiculous 😂 I also kind of wanted to hear from the fortune teller again! It was fun to meet back up with some friends from an earlier book, and super nice that Dan actually got to come be a part of the club! I thought it was interesting that his NYC knowledge played a part in rescuing Trixie. My biggest issue with this one was Trixie going off to meet the bad guys on her own ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) I mean seriously. I also got slightly confused by the ending - why did they call to tell her about the diamond...?!??! But still, it was a fun adventure. The banter and fun between the club members is still entertaining to me and feels realistic. Also, could I get a biography of Miss Trask please??

Any thoughts from my fellow readers this month??

TheAromaofBooks Oh one thing I forgot was I saw a piece of “trivia“ for this book that was basically like, “in this story we not only learn that Miss Trask speaks fluent Spanish, but that's she capable of translating an entire poem so that it rhymes in English“ 😂 1mo
lauraisntwilder I noticed that, too! I thought she taught Math, not Spanish or poetry! 😜 1mo

I have decided not to look into who actually wrote each of these, so I can go in blind and hopeful. This one was better than the last one, but there's still a change in the way Trixie is written that I don't enjoy as much. It was fun that the kids from Iowa came to visit & I enjoyed the descriptions of 1960s NYC. I kept forgetting Dan was actually with the group this time though. Whenever he spoke, I'd think, Dan? Who is Dan? 😂 #bobwhitebuddies

#Read2025 #SeriesLove2025 #DynamicDs

Finished this weekend for #BobWhiteBuddies there is always a chance of #Danger when Trixie Belden is around. This one was a favorite growing up probably because of the NYC setting & finally, Dan gets to go somewhere! (Granted it‘s within state lines but anyway…) I can still recite the first 2 lines of the fortune Trixie is given by a fortune teller she helps at the airport which is pretty impressive since ⬇️

DebinHawaii … I have trouble remembering where I park my car at the grocery store. “Great-headed man, with blinking eye, A shaded road, a horse‘s cry,“ after that I only remember bits & pieces of the rest of it but there is a mention of #Danger: “Where shines a beacon 'cross the sky, Beware, great danger lurks close by.” so it works for today‘s prompt. Trixie is a bit annoying in this one & does some dumb things as does the gang. ⬇️ 1mo
DebinHawaii … So what do they do right after declaring they will stay together as a group to keep safe? They separate of course, giving the inept bad guys yet another chance to try to grab the statue Trixie buys. Speaking of the statue, even the adults are awfully careless with it. But still, I have much nostalgic love for this series & this book (#12 in the series), so it‘s a pick. Next up we go to Cobbett‘s Island, another favorite of my youth. (edited) 1mo

lauraisntwilder I've been avoiding reading your review until I finished the book myself. You're exactly right about the kids splitting up. So silly. There's a part of me, as a stick-in-the-mud grown-up, that would like to see Trixie get grounded or something. Enough of this "she's been punished enough" or "she's learned her lesson." Obviously not!!! 1mo
DebinHawaii @lauraisntwilder Yes! She definitely doesn‘t get held accountable enough! 😡 1mo

#Naturalitsy #HyggeHourReadathon

Spending my #HyggeHour with Trixie & the gang for #BobWhiteBuddies & enjoying this cocoa custard Easter Bunny roll as my snack with tea. I‘m excited about this one (book 12) in the series because I remember the first 2 lines of the fortune Trixie gets when the Bob-Whites go to NYC.

Not looking forward to it being Monday tomorrow although this is a no-travel week for me, so hopefully a bit calmer.
