Pickpick

Always happy to read a new Agatha Raisin story! It‘s been awhile. While I will always miss M.C. Beaton, I do think the new author has a decent grasp of the characters. It‘s a little different but not enough to make me stop reading. Very happy Penelope Keith narrated the audiobook. 4⭐️

I didn't find the book I went looking for today, but better than if I'd found it, I found a book I didn't know I was looking for 😊

Saving Agnes: A Novel | Rachel Cusk
post image
Pickpick

Very enjoyable to read Cusk‘s first novel that really deftly captures the experience of being a young female adult. Some lines were so spot on: “She strove not to please others but merely not to disgust them.” An accurate portrait of growing into female adulthood in the 90s from my perspective. Agnes is a little trying at times, but I loved to see her find her way.

Billypar Great review! Also really liking the cover art and mug. After just reading my first Cusk a few months ago, I'm looking forward to trying more from her. 1mo
AnneCecilie This sounds interesting. I always want to read more from Cusk‘s backlist 1mo

Here‘s an add for the book at the end.
Yay! I‘m finally done with this book. I didn‘t realize I was so close to the end, the notes in the back of the book start at about the 50% mark! I‘m glad I read it & sad I didn‘t enjoy it, since the author is a famous female author. The historical notes at the end of the book an interesting, so I‘m reading them. #AuthorAMonth

Leftcoastzen I love the old book ads at the end. 2mo

Fox Hunting 🦊 Yuck! 😡
It was banned in Scotland in 2002 and the rest of United Kingdom in 2005
Incredible it took that long to band it sounds so cruel. #AuthorAMonth

Soubhiville Yes truly terrible. 2mo
tpixie @Soubhiville I remember hearing that these fox hunts were horrible, but I just thought it was because it was unfair that they use dogs and horses to chase a fox instead of just walking. It was so much worse…. 2mo
bookishbitch What did Oscar say? 2mo
tpixie @bookishbitch lol 😂 I‘ll post it and tag you!! After I posted that I thought well I kind of left that hanging… 2mo

I‘m reading the version of the book with annotations and this morning came across an annotation about this once famous and now forgotten author. It made me think of all the lost books in the past, and which books will be lost and that so few will be saved in the future! I hope I have read some of the memorable ones!
#AuthorAMonth

Soubhiville What a sad and interesting thought. I‘d never really considered this. 2mo
tpixie @Soubhiville yes! It really struck me. We lose so many things to time! Books, art, architecture, people. On that happy note, have a great day! 💔❤️‍🩹❤️ 2mo
