I really enjoyed this #nfnov memoir of growing up in a logging community in #idaho and the author‘s battle to find her place as a teenager in an increasingly religious family.

#wil I learnt of some really interesting parallels with recently-read ‘My Name is Why‘, although entirely different countries, where both authors were abandoned suddenly by foster families for no reason, and their journeys questioning why.

Borrowed this from the library yesterday lunchtime and finished it on the train to work this morning.... I just couldn‘t put it down.

The poet Lemn tells of his childhood growing up in a foster home and care homes - #wil what I learned is that adults can be truly uncaring and that the care system in the UK is broken.

Despite his harsh upbringing, where he felt no love, Sissay still brings positivity to his story - a must-read.

#WIL jack didn‘t like living up to the fame that he gained from writing the “Bible of the Beatniks.

I loved this autobiography! Sandi takes a journey from home to work on the no 12 bus and the sights she sees both on and off the bus bring back memories of her life.

It‘s funny, heartwarming and witty - highly recommended.

#wil I l gained a lovely new word - ‘absquatulate‘ , which means to leave somewhere in a hurry

I didn‘t love this book. It‘s a series of dreamlike vignettes that lend a more novelistic feel than non-fiction. Indeed, one of the reviews on the back described it as a ‘metaphysical memoir‘ - I prefer a more straightforward autobiographical style.

#wil I learned a lot about rocks, birds and the polio vaccine... and also a new word, sempiternal, meaning everlasting.

Such an annoying book - very woe-is-me and everyone else is to blame for their problems. The author and her husband owe the IRS a huge debt so they go to live in a shack in the mountains of #northcarolina and raise goats (there ends up being about 10 goats so goodness knows where the title comes from!)
