And another spooky suspense for October.
Trip to Japan!
A perfectly chilling Gothic tale for October. The story takes place in the fens of Suffolk during the early years of the 20th Century. Are the fens haunted? Or is Maud's cruel and controlling father the true demon?
My #bookspin read for March! Thanks for organizating this @TheAromaofBooks - going to also try #doublespin.
Going to settle in and get started. I just might stay up all night!
Book 12 on my #bookspin list. Can't wait to start working on my #unreadshelfproject. Thank you @TheAromaofBooks for organizing this reading challenge!
I am here at the last minute, but I think this is a wonderful idea!I want to get some of these books read, but I have a hard time choosing, plus I am easily distracted by the new and shiny! #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

I'm a few weeks behind on my Christmas audiobook. A lovely book to listen to in the weeks leading up to Christmas. I put my headphones in while I was cooking, backing, quilting, decorating, cleaning... I live in the desert, so it helped me to get in the mood. The narrator has a lovely brogue, too! Just more life in the Northern Ireland village of Balleybucklebo. The characters are quircky and its a joy to follow the lives of the two doctors.
So much impact in this slender graphic novel! It was so well done. I couldn't put it down once I started. It moves between contemporary times - the inauguration of Barack Obama and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's. Written by John Lewis, It captures many aspects of his life before, during and after he stood up for the changes happening in the US. Off to the bookstore for the rest!
The third book in this post-apocalyptic trilogy that brings Celtic mythology to life after The Doom - a virus that claims over 80% of humanity. Many of those left turn into witches, elves, fairies or shapeshifters. A wonderful good vs. evil tension carries through the whole trilogy and Nora Roberts, as always, does a fine job of bringing her characters to life.
This is incredible! My dad used to have quite a few books about Lincoln (maybe 10 or 12)..when I was a girl, I thought that was a lot!
Today I cooked the title recipe from this book. I just can't stop thinking about how beautifully it is written. How much love and tenderness are put not only into the recipes, but into the stories they tell. I'm only sorry I did not take a picture of the lovely chickens. I could see how sharing it with someone you love could help you get up off the floor and keep going for one more day. #cookbooks

This book picked me up and dropped me right in the middle of Oxford in 1938. Because of this time displacements, I am compelled to describe this book as "a delightful romp through the University of Oxford as Gervaise Fen solves this devilishly clever locked room mystery."
This book just dropped into my radar (Page-a-Day Calendar). Which is such a coincidence since I have been caught up in all sorts of academic mysteries lately.
My #weeklyreport. Finished a couple of books I had neen reding awhile as well as one I just picked up last week. I am going to reread Ongoingness, though. There is so much there - I don't feel I did it justice at all. I had 2 books arrive from my bookstore order, 2 books from a hold on Monday and then, on Saturday, when I stopped to pick up a hold I saw 3 books I had been wanting to read! A good week's haul! I had to clear my calendar.
This book is going to stay with me for a long time.
I have definitely let my need to be perfect, to be right and to have the approval with others interfere with what I want to do and who I want to be. Brene mixes observations from her research with personal narratives and experiences to show what she learned from both. She identifies and describes "guideposts" to leading a wholehearted life. The narrator was fine, but I so would have preferred to listed to Brene Brown read her own book.
I so love reading the Lady Sherlock series. Sherry captures some of Sherlock Holmes most engaging and interesting character traits in her Lady. This story has Lady Sherlock and company assisting an Indian Maharini with some old secrets and the plot twists never stop, but no worries! Lady Sherlock's deductive skills are more than up to the task. There's still a wonderful tension between Lord Ingram and Lady Sherlock. Next book, please!
I love the idea of a #WeeklyForecast! I hope it helps me organise my reading life a little more.
Audiobooks this week:
A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway and The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown.
Print/Ebooks
I am almost done with For Better, For Worse by Caryl Rivers and The Art of Theft by Sherry Thomas.
Today I picked up Ongoingness, The Last Templar, Midnight Chicken and The Moveable Toystore.
Another academic mystery. This time, in 14th Century Cambridge University. Doctor and Fellow Matthew Bartholomew has to deal with murder in the midst of the Black Death. The plot was a little convoluted, but moved fast. A lot of attention goes to the plague and its affects on this late medieval community.#academicmysteries
#whatshouldIreadnext is one of my favorite podcasts, so I was delighted to hear @annebogel narrate her own audiobook. This is a book I'm going to have own in print, too! I felt the frequent need to highlight, write my own margin notes and add stickies all over this book! The last chapter, especially resonated - the need to log my books competes with my need to be reading, Even as write this, I hear my current read calling my name!
One unexpected find lead to another! I picked up a copy of Midnight Chicken & Other Recipes to Live For at my library and feel in love with the stories and the food. The author makes a lot of connections to the important books in her life. One of these was The Rooftoppers. A magical middle grade story of Sophie's hunt for her long lost mother and her discovery of so much more!
I absolutely adore vintage cookbooks! This was from a small antique store in Topeka, Kansas. I am always excited to find a little bit of a previous owner inside the book - This was a gift to a new wife. The book would have been brand-new, just published. It's got all kinds of menus - even for cooking for your "elderly" family members! #cookbookfun
Learned about this one in a cookbook - Midnight Chicken and Other Recipes Worth Living For by Ella Risbridger ..
Lately I've been interested in academic mysteries. This one goes all the way back to the 13th century at Oxford. In the absence of modern forensic techniques, Master William Falconer relies on deduction to solve crimes, This one also satisfies #readharderchallenge for a mystery where the victim is not a woman.
From #bookriot - a play by an AOC or LGBTQ playwrite.

Recommended by #biokriot. Ghost stories for Christmas.
Second book in the series- well written and well narrated!
First read of the year! Started this a couple of days ago, but it is what I am currently reading. I'm going to ditch Goodread tracking for the year in favor of a spreadsheet I got from #bookriot and I'm also going to be more present on Litsy this year.
