Wool | Hugh Howey
'The next Hunger Games' The Sunday TimesWell written, tense, and immensely satisfying, Wool will be considered a classic for many years in the future. WIRED'Thrilling, thought-provoking and memorable ... one of dystopian fiction's masterpieces alongside the likes of 1984 and Brave New World.' Daily Express'Howey's Wool is an epic feat of imagination. You will live in this world.' Justin Cronin'Wool is frightening, fascinating, and addictive. In one word, terrific.' Kathy ReichsIn a ruined and hostile landscape, in a future few have been unlucky enough to survive, a community exists in a giant underground silo. Inside, men and women live an enclosed life full of rules and regulations, of secrets and lies.To live, you must follow the rules. But some don't. These are the dangerous ones; these are the people who dare to hope and dream, and who infect others with their optimism.Their punishment is simple and deadly. They are allowed outside.Jules is one of these people. She may well be the last.

Wool by Hugh Howey
I absolutely loved this book. It's a sci-fi book, so it's not one I typically would have picked up, and it was a struggle for me at first, despite being absolutely beautifully written, but it pulls you in very quickly and then I just couldn't put it down.

Now I finished the #24B4Monday #readthon with 4 hours and 7 minutes and I'm happy that I also participated this month. It wasn't my worst resulat although I visited yesterday and today my friends and had less time to read but many time to eat wonderful cakes 😂😉. I begun a new #audiobook (tagged) and I'm loving it.

This book had me until the very end. I've said it before - I like resolution. This one left me with too many questions and some that were barely answered. 509 pages to wrap it all up and finish it and you putzed out in the last 20. 🌟🌟🌟.5

Stephuhhnieee There are sequels! The next one is Dust ☺️ 10mo
WhatThePuck @Stephuhhnieee I assumed because there was no way that could be the end. I was a little miffed I stayed up past my bedtime for that. 😂 10mo
Stephuhhnieee @WhatThePuck Lol! Yeah I don‘t blame you. I hate unanswered questions. I haven‘t read the books yet myself... but it‘s one of my dads favorite series, so I‘ve heard about the plot. He recommends reading the sequels for those answers! 10mo

I went over to my parents house this afternoon to make Christmas cookies and found myself in such a grumpy mood. I‘m going to blame it on the fact I wanted to be home reading this book, as I had just gotten to a really suspenseful part, but I may be ready for Christmas to be over already. Anyone else feeling grinchy this year?

While Squidapus can often find a lot to enjoy in even the most middling novels this book was just a rough read. He's a bit unsure why it received a decent amount of love because if the book was any drier it'd crumble to dust at a sneeze. It drags terribly and while the concept is decent the completely uninteresting main character and absolutely slllloooowwww pace kills almost any interest he had. While he did finish it, it never grabbed him ever

juliegumdrop I didn‘t finish it and always felt bad about it. 14mo

It was good. There was a lot of tech stuff (mostly mechanical) that I wasn‘t as interested in. But, it was definitely interesting and it picked up for me a little ways in, with the focus more on Juliette (except the mechanical stuff!). For some reason, I thought this was YA, but it‘s not. I think I will continue the series (I read the Omnibus, which collected the 5 short stories, but there are apparently two more books beyond this one).

I'm really struggling with how to review this. I enjoyed reading it but it was not always enjoyable. I felt claustrophobic reading it a lot of the time and could not see a way through. And then the ending felt so miraculous and good that I was left with a great feeling about the book. But I didn't have that feeling while reading it. I am CONFUSED!

This book was great. I read the whole thing in just a couple of days. For an unknown author this was a real gem. The story is a dark reflection on the behavior of a closed society. It takes the idea of nationalism and rule of law and concentrates it down to a few individuals living after the end of the world. The ideas and insights kept me glued to the pages. I highly recommend this book.

A very unique novel - a community existing within a silo. A toxic outside world, which the inhabitants of the silo know little to nothing about. A ritual of outside "cleaning," reserved for criminals and those who ask for it.
Of course, underneath every seemingly functioning community is an operating system of which the "little man" may suspect foul play and corruption, but truly knows nothing. That's where this book gets interesting. #dystopia
