Ribbons of Scarlet: A Novel of the French Revolution | Kate Quinn, Stephanie Dray, Laura Kamoie, Heather Webb, E. Knight, Sophie Perinot
post image

The format of this book is so cool; each section is written by a differnt author focused from the POV different historical woman but each of the women appear in the previous sections as secondary characters. Plus it‘s all chronological so it flows as one novel, with the feel of an anthology.
Also, the French Revolution is oddly relevant right now. #historicalfiction #womenfiction #frenchrevolution

Beware: This book will make you acutely aware of every ache and pain you have, and livid at all capitalists (especially from the 1920s).

I am a sucker for a good retelling and this was a great one. You wouldn‘t need to be a fan of Pride and Prejudice to get into this book. The only fault I found was the ending seemed rushed, but other than that I highly recommend.

Shameless post to say I saw Hamilton and it was fantastic! But more importantly, many of you might know that Lin was inspired to write the musical after reading Ron Chernow‘s biography on vacation. BUT I just learned from the paybill that Ron Chernow received a writing credit on the musical and Lin gives him 1% of his 7% for being the show‘s writer. Make bank, Chernow!

GingerAntics Wow, didn‘t know Lin did that. That‘s pretty awesome. Chernow has to be happily making bank from this bad boy these days. lol 5y

I whole heartedly love this series. I had to keep myself from devouring the last one, knowing it was going to be the end. I love what Arden did with the folklore and this mythology that isn‘t widely known. And I loved how she handled the relationships between characters. Full review to come on the blog.

I absolutely adored this book. I felt like I devoured it each time I dove in to read it. The characters were refreshingly earnest. The plot felt like a fairytale from the brothers grimm. The family relations was nice to read and the different romantic arcs were interesting (as well as delightfully realistic). Highly recommend!

I'm finishing up "My Dear Hamilton" this weekend and absolutely loving it. I adored Dray and Kamoie's take on Patsy Jefferson, and they paired for another great female of the American Revolution. I hope they write many more together.

Despite 2 college courses about Ms. Jane the most I remember us ever reading into her juvenilia was a vague mention of "Love and Friendship". I absolutely adore her early writing, but understand you really have to be a Jane fan to find any of it funny. If you don't get her satire in what they let her publish, you'll be lost here.

I just finished this collection of short stories by Kelly Barnhill. I would say most were quirky and definitely for fans of Neil Gaiman. What really pushed this collection from a 3.5 to a 4 was the ending novella "The Unlicensed Magician", it's worth at least checking it out from your library for that. Review on blog to come.

I enjoyed Burton's other novel The Miniaturist but had one complaint that held me back from loving it. This was not repeated in The Muse; I loved it! Suggested for those who love books that "all comes together" in the end and/or historical fiction.

I think I liked the parts of it really well that I did because they were similar to my own experiences. I felt like there was a bit of a disconnect when he tried to connect his personal life to the bigger picture where the book could have benefited from being longer. He had good insight to the community he just didn't dig into it enough.
