LITTENS! I NEED YOUR HELP!

I am a teacher and I am working on a reading challenge for our high schoolers. The theme is “Book vs. Movie”, and each student will need to read 5 books from a preset list and then watch their corresponding film.

🔺 Will you tell me your favorite books that have been adapted into films??

I have a list going, but would love more suggestions. Thank you so much!!!

vivastory I loved the adaptation of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Also very impressed by Scorsese's adaptation of 6y

“Death by stinging nettles!”

Eddie is carrying me through packing today. His extra footnotes and asides are totally making this. If you‘re a fan of Eddie‘s roving, rambling style and his snappy historical knowledge, I absolutely recommend this, and I‘m only 45 minutes in.

Happy 4th, America! This is how I‘m spending my afternoon before we head to the BBQ for too much food and fireworks.

What are you reading this #IndependenceDay??

Bossy socks!
I couldn‘t pass these up, and now I only want to buy book-related socks for the rest of my life.

I honestly had no clue what to expect of this book, but my audiobook hold became available before the ebook, and I am FLYING through it! The setting and cultures are wholly new to me and it‘s incredibly fun. I‘m almost finished and I‘ll definitely be continuing the series. 🎊

“He liked straight lines and clear decisions. That was why he had always liked mathematics. There were right or wrong answers there. Not like the other hippie subjects they tried to trick you into doing at school, where you could ‘argue your case‘.”

I am loving this so far! It‘s our current book club pick and I already can‘t wait to discuss it at our meeting.

I‘ve loved going back through this great classic series!

I haven‘t read them since I was a kid and am trying out the audiobook for this one. It‘s great so far!

Since I‘m a purist, and my childhood boxed set had them in the order Lewis WROTE them, as opposed to the story order, this is technically Book 2 for me. I‘ve found I really enjoy “rereading” books via audiobook (i.e., Harry Potter) since I‘m already familiar with the story. Anyone else??

Gearing up for summer reading like....
Speaking of, I‘ve been on a MAJOR YA kick lately. I‘d love to hear your “Must Reads” for that category! 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽I tend to crave this genre as the weather gets warmer for some reason. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyone else have seasonal reading tendencies??

Re-reading this gem for book club and I‘ve already fallen back in love with this story. I hope this becomes required middle school reading, someday. 💕

Can I ask for advice?? I have kindle ebook credit and I cannot make a decision of how to spend it for the life of me! What‘s your favorite book you‘ve read lately? I‘d love to hear about it! #recommendsday

asiriusreader Just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Fine....so so good! Definitely recommend! 7y
Kaye What sorts of books do you like ? Genre wise ? 7y
Jess7 I think it definitely depends on what genre you‘re interested in. 7y

Jess7 Let me know that and I‘d be happy to recommend 7y
PatternsOnWalls @asiriusreader Thanks! I‘ve seen that one around Litsy! 7y
PatternsOnWalls @Kaye @Jess7 I‘m a fan of almost all fiction except horror and mystery 😁 7y
Jess7 Eleanor Oliphant (mentioned above) is really good. If you like psychological thrillers — I highly recommend anything by Clare Mackintosh. Fredrik Backman and John Boyne are great for literary fiction. 7y
Kaye Some of my favorites are older books but all great. A Prayer for Owen Meany. , Wheel of Fortune by Howatch. Time and Again by Jack Finney. The Humans by Matt Haig is excellent. (edited) 7y
PatternsOnWalls @Jess7 Thank you so much! 7y
PatternsOnWalls @Kaye Thank you! These are a great place to start! And usually older books are a bit cheaper in the kindle edition, too 😉 7y

Caught in my natural habitat... has anyone seen this beautiful centennial edition of ‘Dubliners‘? The cover is so lovely, I couldn‘t pass it up. This will be my first Joyce read as well. ☺️

I did it! I officially joined a #RoryGilmore Reading Challenge group. Completing her list has always been in my literary dreams and now we‘ve started a #BookClub for it! Our first pick is The Bell Jar and we start March 1st! This is, of course, open to ANY others interested, so if you‘re down, comment and I can get you a link to the group. #Literati, unite! ✊🏼

We can just count this as a slightly early #recommendsday, right? I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and burned (ha!) through them quicker than I anticipated. My one mistake was the fact that the fourth book isn't even out, so now I have to wait like everyone else to finish the story! YA fans will definitely enjoy this one, IMO

Starting my Litsy life with this one! Other than hearing great things, I try my best to be a "READ THE BOOK BEFORE THE MOVIE" person, so I won't be watching the trailer until then! ? Do you feel the same way or do you like to read a book after you've seen the movie?

RaimeyGallant Welcome! 7y
tpixie Welcome to Litsy! Yes I like to read the book before the movie. You get a lot more insight and backstory. Also it's kind of hard to invest the time in a book after you know what the ending is going to be. 7y
tpixie Also- i'm not a gamer, but I did really enjoy this book. I know where the main character lives is kind of slum like, but where he lives reminds me of this architectural accomplishment in Canada. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habitat_67 7y

PatternsOnWalls @RaimeyGallant Thanks so much!! 7y
PatternsOnWalls @tpixie I totally agree! If I already know the plot and the ending, it's much harder for me to make the time for the book. And that architecture is amazing! 😱 7y
