Listening to this as an audio book was pretty miserable. I do think that If I read this myself I would have enjoyed it way more. The book did leave good closure but I think over all the entire series just did not do it for me.
Finally finished this series. I loved the first three books and I could finish them all in a week. The last book took me almost a month to get through because it just dragged on for so long! The ending was satisfying and rewarding.
I didn't love it. For me, it was just ok. Felt too long yet not finished, which I guess doesn't make sense. A lot of repetition. I didn't feel Mare's character showed much development, especially compared to other characters.
In the epilogue I expected a bit more of time to have passed and a peak at the new world.
Survived my first tornado watch! Just read while it blew past!
Final book in the series! I really feel like this was the best book in the series. Without giving too much away, I really felt as though the characters had matured and evolved. I liked seeing them grow, but really enjoyed the character development in this final stage. If you liked the earlier books, you'll love this one!
📚📚 Happy Reading! 📚📚
I read that first one. Then I read the second. I also read the third. I decided to audioclean with the final chunkster (22 hours). About two hours into a serious clean, I hear, “Epilogue.“ Wut? Somehow I advanced from water nymphs in ceremony to water nymphs in battle and it seemed like, uh, okay. But NO! Who lives; who dies; who loves; who loses--all spoiler'd.
Just call me The Bailer. I have no qualms about bailing on books I‘m not enjoying, even if they are the final book in a series. With respect to this series, it really should have been a trilogy. By this fourth book, which is a major #chunkster, I was beyond bored! The characters are all annoying as heck, and I care not one bit about how their stories turn out 🤷🏻♀️
Amazing, compelling, all you would want in the final installment of a series. The ending was REAL; it was strong, and not an unbelievable, tidy conclusion. It was full of the authentic, raw emotion that would be created from the events of the series: Love, loss, war, betrayal...
Everything has changed for Mare, her companions, and their world. Of course part of me wanted a fairy tale ending, but this conclusion was perfect. LOVED IT!
This was a VERY long book with a VERY rushed ending. It took a lot of work to get through this one, but I‘m glad I know how everything resolves. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yay! Going to finally finish this series. Book 29 of my year. Actually started yesterday, currently on page 13
Between work and life it‘s been a busy couple of weeks. As a result, I‘ve gotten very little reading done, and had to cut down my time on Litsy. As things are quieting back down (outside of work at least), I now have more than a few minutes to spare with my books and with Litsy 😊
Hooray, it‘s finally over! I thought about bumping this up to a so-so because it was slightly better than the middle books, but the anticlimactic ending ruined it. The plot is basically the same in all four books. The characters are all annoying and have no idea who they are or what they want. The series just didn‘t work for me and I would have DNF‘d after the first book if I wasn‘t scrapping the bottom of the barrel of my library‘s audio books.
Since I've had this account for a while so I figured I'd do a little get-to-know me😊1. I'm 18 and live in Ohio
2. My favorite hobbies include: reading (obviously), listening to music and pretending I can sing and eating
3. I mostly read YA Fantasy and Dystopian and some of my favorite series include:
Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
All of Maria V Snyder's series
A Court Of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas
The Selection by Kiera Cass
King‘s Cage was absolutely phenomenal, and so I went into this TOME of a novel expecting great things. Maybe my hopes were set a bit too high, because I found that this book was long and dragging, but at the same time not much happened. The ending even felt a bit “meh.” Parts of it were still great, and I really loved Evangeline, but compared to the third book I felt like it was a bit of a let down.
Why cal!!! Whyyyy😭😭😭
I enjoyed the final installment of this series. It is very long and winding. However, it is told from many points of view and although, I related to Mare‘s voice the most, it made the book flow. I found the ending a bit anticlimactic and sad but this is probably a more realistic ending than I was hoping for. Let‘s just say I was holding out hope for one character. Overall, I am sad to see the series end.
It was fine. The ending was a bit anticlimactic and confusing. I had to reread the final chapters to understand how it ended. It concluded the tales of the major characters, but I was not very satisfied. It just kind of ended without serious closure, which may be the best it could do for a four-book series. I think a more experienced author could have written a more satisfying ending.
After a while, I‘m back to my favorite hobby...reading. I hope to catchup on a couple of books during my maternity leave.
