Wow!! That‘s my reaction to this book. I first heard about it from @kdwinchester Her review in her book tube channel had me intrigued. I‘m so glad I picked it up and read it. It‘s just so good. Yes, it‘s about a poorly educated girl who through years of hard work earns a PhD from Cambridge. But it‘s so very much more. As Kendra would say, “Just go read it.” #readingwomenmonth

Just finished this on my commute home from work. I really enjoyed the story and learning a bit about post-WWII life in Italy. The descriptions of the neighborhood reminded me a little of the toughness of the neighborhood in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. However, this book presents more of the violent and profane qualities of a neighborhood whose residents feel stuck in poverty. I‘m still deciding how I feel about Lila. #ReadingWomenChallenge

I was loaned an ARC of this book. Wow! I couldn‘t put it down and read it in one sitting. As the mom of two (now adult) children with chronic illnesses, the last chapter spoke to me the most. She expresses how I‘ve felt about watching them deal their illnesses so well. Disclaimer: this book contains some profanity. I mention that in case you are like me and usually try to avoid profanity in what you read. #ReadingWomenChallenge

I received this in the mail today as an early birthday present. I can‘t wait to dive into it. It‘s so tempting to read “just one chapter” but I know how that would go and I do need to get up for work tomorrow. I first heard about this book in @kdwinchester BookTube channel. When she said she was looking forward to reading it, I put it on my TBR. Apparently the book buying fairy noticed. 😊 Has anyone else read it?

I just finished this on audio book. The narrator did a great job with pacing. I really enjoyed the book and enjoyed the author interview at the end of the audiobook. This book has LOTS of twists and turns and kept me guessing. I am trying to remember the last time I disliked a character as much as I did Scarlett's father! Glad I saw the recommendation by @kdwinchester on her social media. Thanks, Kendra. #thereadingwomen

Excellent book to help a child deal with the death of a loved one. Gives them an explanation of death from the Christian worldview and let's them know their loved one is happy in Heaven. It tells them that it's ok to be sad and even angry but gives them encouragement that they will be happy again someday. It encourages them to talk to someone about their feelings and that it's safe to tell God exactly how they feel. #christianbook #childrensbook

I loved this as an audio book. Good story set during WWII. It shows the power of God to change lives and the wonderful blessing (for the the child and the parents) of adoption. My MIL's cat seems pretty content with it too.

I listened to this on my commute to and from work. The narrator did a great job with the accents and pacing. It's hard to say that you enjoyed such a book. I found it very thought provoking and I was consistently amazed at the horrors humans can impose on each other. Sara was an amazing woman and I'm so glad I was able to hear her story. #audiobook #thereadingwomen #holocaustsurvivor #memoir

Escape | Carolyn Jessop, Laura Palmer

I had heard of the raid on the FLDS compound that took place back around 2008. This book gives "back-story" to some of the characters and places mentioned in those accounts. Carolyn was a 6th generation FLDS and was forced into marriage at 18 to a man 32 years older. This book not only tells about her childhood and the years married to him but also the incredibly difficult escape she made. Note: there are a couple instances of profanity.

This book was so engrossing & kept me up reading much later than I should have. Irene became the 2nd wife of Verlan LeBron in 1953. The 28 years of their marriage were incredibly difficult and heartbreaking. During those years she bore him 13 children and watched him marry several more women. When I hear of plural wives, I always wonder, "why do they stay?" This book answers that question & tells what living "The Principle" is really like.

Sasha728 There is more profanity in this book than I usually read. Most of it is used when she is arguing with Verlan about what he's asking her to endure or about a promise he's broken. 7y

This is book 4 in a 6 book series. It was a quick easy read. Good for pure entertainment reading. Joel is from an Amish family but left that way of life as an adult. His father has passed away and his will can't be found. The action goes back and forth between the Amish family and Joel's life What is fun about reading this book is that this weekend my husband and I are on a mini-vacation in the area where the Amish part of the book is set.

I enjoy books about the Amish. I think I inherited my interest in this people group from my dad. I really enjoyed the story progression. It didn't portray the Amish as perfect people or that they always live a godly life. It was a great story about the need of forgiveness- of others and of ourselves. I did not appreciate the use of one or two words of profanity. It was awkward and totally unnecessary.

Dee Henderson is near the top of my favorite authors list. I love how she uses a main character from a former series to introduce you to the main character in a new series. Great descriptions, Christian characters that live their faith w/o shoving it down people's throats and a crime to be solved had me staying up way too late to finish this one. {Sasha feels no guilt at taking my computer chair.}
