Love Her Wild
Love Her Wild: Poems | Atticus
66 posts | 64 read | 38 to read
The first collection of poetry by Instagram sensation Atticus Love Her Wild is a collection of new and beloved poems from Atticus, who has captured the hearts and minds of well over 300k followers on his Instagram account, @atticuspoetry, including superstars like Karlie Kloss and Shay Mitchell. With honesty, poignancy, and romantic flare, Love Her Wild captures what is both raw and relatable about the smallest and the grandest moments in life: the first glimpse of a new love, a late night drive singing along to a car radio, the irrepressible exuberance of the female spirit, the simple pleasure of a good whiskey. Atticus distills the most exhilarating highs and the heartbreaking lows of life and love into a few short lines, ensuring that his words will become etched in your mindand will awaken your sense of adventure.

This one is a soft pick for me. The main reason I gave it a pick instead of a so-so is that I feel that, by its being almost simplistic at times, it makes me feel like I don‘t have to set the bar so high for myself and my poetry. Sometimes I don‘t even bother trying to write, because I feel like I can‘t possibly measure up. A book like this one makes me feel like it‘s okay to just get it down, in whatever form that takes. Recommended! #poetry

I had mixed feelings about this. It was easy to see that these started life as instagram captions. The vibe definitely wouldn‘t have been there for me without the photography accompanying each piece, but I liked the interplay between words and images so I didn‘t mind that. I wished most of the pieces would have gone farther or dug deeper to really become something new, ⬇️⬇️⬇️

IndoorDame but there were a few that really hit and struck me as a type of poetry I hadn‘t read before, almost like western haiku, and that was fascinating to think about. #LMPBC @Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie @Pigpen_Reads 13mo

IndoorDame I haven‘t read any of these either, though I did just read a poem by Atticus for the first time last week, so that could be interesting. I‘m also definitely interested in reading more by Elizabeth Barrett Browning! 1y

Poetry as a general rule isn't my most read category, though #Atticus is a different story, I will always love and enjoy his poetry, it's simple, short and to the point. Snippets of life and love.

I'm learning that poetry is not how it sounds, or how it looks on the page
But how it speaks to your heart ♥

Love the Photography in here as well!

First finish of #24in48 was Love Her Wild... I keep trying to like poetry collections, but I didn‘t really enjoy this. There were a few poems that resonated but overall fairly meaningless and corny.

Vapid and unoriginal. Some of these were downright painful to read (like the above). I feel like even when I was 14, if I had written something like this down (and I probably would have), I would have realized I was being cliched and trite. And then I would have been too embarrassed to show it to anyone. Two stars because I did like quite a bit of the photography, and there were a couple of clever turns of phrase.

I read Love Her Wild for the poetry challenge. I enjoyed the poems and the black and white and grey photographs included in the book. I have discovered I like this format of a poetry book, poems with photography. They make great coffee table books.

A few good gems in here, but I think I would have appreciated some of it more if a man were the object. Mainly short pieces about love, adventure, appreciating life. I wish the poems had titles and there was a table of contents, so I could return to the ones I like without having to flip through the whole book to find them

Bronte_Chintz I follow this guy on insta and was tempted to get his book. Would you say it‘s worth it or are the bits on his page enough? 6y
WordyForever @Bronte_Chintz I think most of the poems in the book can be found on his Instagram but I liked reading them in this order and with the accompanying photos. I‘d say it was worth it to me but I guess it depends on what you‘re looking for. If you don‘t care about having them all in one place in print, then his insta is probably enough 6y
Bronte_Chintz @WordyForever Thanks ducky! I might keep it on the TBR for when I see it on offer maybe. 6y
WordyForever @Bronte_Chintz his second book is on preorder now, so I have a feeling the first one will be on sale sometime soon, probably shortly after release 6y
Bronte_Chintz @WordyForever I didnt know that! Thanks! 6y

I never know exactly how to read a book of poetry... to read it all in one sitting or to contemplate each piece over a long span of time.

I read this book in one sitting - not because it was "just that good" but because it was simple. Many of the poems were, at least for me, a bit underwhelming. The book was redeemed by two or three greats - the poems I was hoping for all along. The book tries so hard to be hipster it forgets its substance.

As a poet, it hurts to give poetry collections poor reviews. But this poetry seemed so juvenile to me. It was not due to the shortness of the poems - short poems often pack the hardest punch. Rather it was the fact that none of these poems broke outside of cliches. I found the photographs way more compelling and breathtaking than the poetry.

Pruzy That‘s probably a very common criticism of poetry collections...had it graduated from the angsty poems or shallow love poems we all wrote wrote as teens, lol 6y
candority I agree @Pruzy, especially in the current ‘Instapoet‘ (Instagram poets) era of poetry. I guess being short and relatable (to the point of cliche) gets more likes and followers! 6y
