One of the perks of working at the library is that we get to buy books before they are put out in our book sales. 38 leather bound, signed first editions were donated, and I got these for myself for only $20. 😍

Thank you to everyone for putting this on. I had fun and read a lot of books. 🤎🖤🤎

Still really loving this series! Only two books in and this sequel series is proving to be just as well done as the original. I love that the story from the first series is being continued, but at the same time, there are also new characters and things happening.
Some cool twists and reveals in this volume!

This one was a low pick for me. While I really love Kushner's writing, there were parts of this plot that felt out of place to me. In the end, it mostly came together for me, and there are sections in this book that I just absolutely loved.
This author is definitely not for everyone, but I am a fan and will continue to read her books.

This might not be my favorite book by Rivers Solomon, but I am still a fan. They have such a unique writing style that always impresses and surprises me while reading. I'll admit, I don't always connect all the dots right away, but their books leave me contemplating things for a long time after I've read the last page, and that for me will continue to bring me back to their writing.

I'm so happy to be back in this world again. This spin-off series focuses on the Ghoul Squad, which has several familiar faces.
This opening volume gives just enough background to explain what happened in Tokyo Ghoul without giving away too much. I'm excited to see what happens with both the new characters and the characters from the original series.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
Interesting premise with great graphics, but the story writing was too sparse to make me want to read more. I love the action, but without a solid story to back it up, I lost interest.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
A book that is definitely needed right now!
Amanda Jones refused to back down when she found herself caught up in book censorship dispute in Louisiana. I truly appreciate her for sharing her story and not shying away from the emotional toil it took on her and her family.
The writing does get repetitive, but this is a book that needs to be read and talked about.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
I had so much fun with this read! I loved all the Easter eggs, and the writing had just enough Hitchock feel, mixed with a modern take to make it feel fresh.
I did the audio version, and the narrator did an excellent job.
One of my favorite mystery/spooky reads this month.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
Perhaps my expectations were too high. 🫤 I had heard good things about this one, and being a fan of genre-bending, weird novels, I was excited. Unfortunately, though, it just didn't work for me. While I can appreciate the narrative about grief the author was trying to convey, the style of writing kept taking me away from the story instead of letting me become fully immersed.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
It was a low pick for me, but it was still a good spooky read. The town of Edenville has some dark secrets, and although things go a little off the rails in the end, I still thought the suspenseful buildup and the mix of messed up characters were perfect for a horror story involving a cursed town.
This is definitely an author I'll look out for in the future.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
I have always found the psychology behind catfishing fascinating. In this book, three women decide to join forces and go after the person online who was pretending to be "Ethan." I liked that we got each woman's story of how they started dating Ethan, and then also when they started becoming suspicious.
Well-researched, fast read, that gives a voice to catfishing victims.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
What an ending! Some stuff I expected, others came as a complete surprise. Lots of action, the story gets a good wrap-up, leaving just enough to the imagination to satisfy me.
Now to start Tokyo Ghoul:re and see where the story goes.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
This is not my favorite book by Marrs, but it was still a great thriller. The dysfunctional family in this book was an extra special brand of crazy. I like how Marrs is able to make you feel for characters even when you dislike them and their actions.

Some great #Standalone books to read.
1. Swan Song- one of my top 5 favorite reads ever.
2. We Used to Live Here- a newly released haunted house book that is really well done.
3. The Other- great horror classic.
4. Certain Dark Things- an intense vampire read that puts a new spin on the creature of the night.
5. Tender is the Flesh- so disturbing, yet so good.

One of my favorites since I bought it at a scholastic book fair as a kid. There's a #Grave over in the corner.

I used to think being secluded in a cabin surrounded by forest and snow would be relaxing and a perfect getaway... then I read this book and decided maybe not. 🤣
This is a great scary read, though.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
So much was brought up in this volume, and lots of new characters were introduced, humans and ghouls both. More connections between the past and present are revealed, and the battle for who will survive begins.
I will be sad when this series is over. It is such a great story.
I wanted to read this one before watching the movie. It's been on my TBR for a while.
This was a great atmospheric read that really put me in the woods feeling like I was the one who was trapped. I loved the narrator for the audiobook, too! It was a perfect read for this time of year.

#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks #BookRecommendations #Critters
1. The Hatchling- I felt things crawling on me for days after reading this one. So creepy!
2. Devolution- who doesn't enjoy a good Sasquatch book.
3. Infested- this novella will make you never want to leave your house for fear of being bitten by insects.
4. Stinger- great critter tale about a being from another planet causing trouble in a small Texas town.

This sequel in a YA duology was so good! Loved the characters and the world building.

Another favorite from last year that has #Blood on the cover. This old-school haunted house story kept me on edge the whole time.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks #BookScavengerHunt
This book featuring #Horns on the cover was a favorite of mine last year. It is dark, mixed with folklore, and family secrets that should have remained buried.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
Things are really speeding up, characters are getting more complex, and we're finally getting answers to things. I especially liked that Uta was a focus on this one.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
I am not sure if this book just didn't work as an audiobook, or if it was the writing. The back and forth between two timeliness was a bit difficult to follow on the audio at times, which took me out of the story.
There are some great suspenseful moments and lots of gothic atmosphere, but I just never connected with the characters.
This entire volume is a lot like the cover- crazy, bloody, intense, and impossible to take your eyes off of.
I personally really enjoyed the different backstories that are presented in between the fight scenes. The paneling and artwork are amazing in this one! With only 3 books left, I can't wait to see how everything comes together.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
In this volume, the fight scenes were more intense and suspenseful, making this a thrilling read.
Kankei is fighting for what he feels is right, but at the same time, letting his inner Ghoul out is taking a toll on him.
Lots of secrets with the doctor who did Kankei's transplant are uncovered in this one. And once again, there's an epic cliffhanger at the end.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
I really enjoyed listening to Kelly Bishop tell me about her life. The majority of this is her time before Gilmore Girls, but it was delightful to get a look inside her life.

1. The House that Horror Built- fast, spooky read with a different twist on the haunted house trope.
2. Assassination Classroom- another great manga series.
3. Edenville- this is a current read, but I'm enjoying it a lot.
4. A Sunny Place for Shady People- love this author! Great mix of horror, social commentary, and folklore.

This was a great read featuring strong female characters.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
This one took me completely by surprise with its cliffhanger at the end! 😲
Even if you aren't a manga fan, but you like dark action- packed horror, you should definitely give this series a chance.
This has one of the most intense battle scenes I've ever read. There was so much going on, but the author did an excellent job of making it easy for the reader to follow all the action.
Other volumes have been dark, but this one goes even deeper as the Ghouls, the CCG, and the Aogri Tree all fight for power and control.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
Best volume yet in this series!
Kankei finds an inner strength he didn't know he had when he is kidnapped and tortured. He has so much character development in these 200+ pages. This one is gruesome, full of action, but still packed with an excellent story as well.

Wow! So much story, and so many new characters are introduced in this volume. We learn a lot more about the Ghoul Investigators, or doves, which is how we meet Juzoo. She's featured on the cover and is so delightfully weird. 😁
Each new installment gets better and better.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
Kankei once again finds himself with a difficult choice that puts him trapped between the human and Ghoul worlds. We get some insight about kajune, which is a special ability that Ghouls have, and we have some sections that go back in time to tell us how things got to where they are.
This one was a nice mix of fast-paced action and story. The graphics are getting more intense, too.
I should do something today besides just binging this manga, but most things can just wait until tomorrow, right? 😉
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
Long lost family shows up in this volume. We start to learn more about the different wards, or areas where Ghouls live, and how each has its own pros and cons. This one has more backstory than action, which I can appreciate because the story is getting more complex.
Volume 3 picks up right where the action ended in the second one. Kankei makes a choice that could change things for him, but when Hinami needs support, it makes the decision easier for Kankei. Still torn between the human and ghoul worlds, Kankei is starting to learn what he must do to keep his friends safe.
Another great installment with some brutal battles.

A MG graphic novel about a young boy who defies taproom tradition because he wants to be a witch like the female members of his family. It's a great story and the first in a series.

I love this graphic novel series! It's funny with a cast of diverse characters always going on some wild adventure. And there's magic and monsters sometimes.
#HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks
The suspense just keeps building! Kaneki is torn between two worlds and trying to figure out how to embrace his new life. I loved the way this one ended.
This series has more than horror and violence. There are themes of acceptance, found family, and social injustices.
I finished up my reread of Carrie. This novel always leaves me feeling sad. The tragedy and abuse that Carrie experiences breaks my heart. All she wanted was to fit in.
I like how the story is written with excerpts from books, interviews, and news to unravel what happened.
Although this isn't a favorite King for me, I still like it and appreciate it.

Some of the teens at my library recommended this horror manga to me and I'm so glad they did! This first volume opens with a bang. Ghouls live among humans, but must eat human flesh to survive. But what happens if someone is half human, half ghoul?
Love the action and the characters so far. Plus, the artwork is really well done.
My idea of #Cozy is a good creepy book that has suspense, but not gore, and maybe a little humor.
1. The Ocean at the End of the Lane- such a great story with some wonderful characters.
2. A Dirty Job- a funny grim reaper tale.
4. The Good House- a haunted house story with a lot of heart and excellent character development.
5. The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter- a story of found family, friendships, and monsters.

I'm not quite sure what it says about me that I liked this book because it has some seriously messed up scenes.
A haunted house, a young girl's ghost, and some intense graphic scenes kept me up last night finishing this one. It's dark, gory, and not for everyone, but it's a great horror novel.
TW: domestic violence, pregnancy trauma, abuse to women and children
Great newly released thriller that focuses on the dangers Indigenous women face. Rendon gives a voice to social injustices while also creating a compelling suspense mixed with heartfelt characters that feel authentic.
It's a bit dark, with a quiet sadness that will stick with you while reading.

1. Benny Rose- this novella happens at a carnival and is such a wonderfully creepy read. ☠️
2. Such a Pretty Smile- an abandoned amusement park is the setting of this supernatural creature feature.
3. Black Mouth- coming of age old-school horror with a traveling carnival.
4. Mystery Walk- McCammon is one of my favorite horror authors. Try him out!

I read this every year in the fall. It's such a wonderful book that gets me in the mood for all things #Pumpkin related.

One of my favorite books set in the #Cold.
Another low pick. When this book started, I loved it. The story, the characters, and the way everything was connected was written so well that I just knew this would end up being a favorite. After the halfway point, though, things started to slow, and I couldn't help but keep comparing it back to the beginning.
I still liked it, and I'd definitely read more by this author, but I wish the pacing was more consistent. #HauntedShelf #HexesandCrows
