Interesting article... if a little limited in terms of the authors experience of female Nordic authors !

Mehso-so

This is 1st book in the series. It is a book about religious fanaticism and violence. Victor Standgard, a well known priest is murderer. His sister, Sanna, asks her friend, Rebecca Martinsson, to help her solve this murder. Rebecca, a tax attorney is forced to relive her past.
The book was a little slow-paced and not too exciting. I‘ll continue with the series as the books look like they get better. Just a rough start for this series, hopefully.

Andrew65 I‘ve not got hold of this one yet. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 Maybe start with book 2 4y

Andrew65 @EadieB Sounds like a good plan. I‘m constantly playing catch up this year. Finished the Joanna Linna Series and the Camilla Lackberg books, only read 3 of the Department Q books, and read none of the new series. Have enjoyed the Joona Linna and Camilla Lackberg Series but not the others. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 I have 3 Lackberg books to catch up. I like Department Q as these books grew on me but still too long. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes! Some more so than others. 4y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 what's the new series? This one @EadieB is reading? I'm so behind I should be ashamed 4y

I didn't care for it. I doubt I'll continue the series. Didn't relate to the characters. The plot was not straight forward. #NordiNoir @Tove_Reads @EadieB @AnneCecilie @Andrew65

EadieB Oh my! 4y
AnneCecilie I haven‘t started on this one yet, but that doesn‘t sound too good 4y

Butterfinger Everything was weak. Why did the dog have to die? Why were people more willing to kill children than to protect them from abuse? What was the actual financial fraud? Why does Sanna's family treat Rebecka so harshly? How was Rebecka responsible for dividing the family? 4y
Tove_Reads I liked that she had a weird profession, but then in the end it didn‘t really work out, maybe not because she was a tax lawyer, but in general. Also, dos are not allowed to die in books. 4y

Butterfinger Again. I'm so confused. The writing is very ambiguous. She was mad at Sanna for telling everybody about the baby, I get that. But, why did she feel so beholden when Victor dies? 4y

#Nordicnoir people, and others who‘d like to read with us! We need new authors to read. Kepler‘s series ends in July, Adler-Olsen‘s in August. What would you like to read? We talked about Nesbø. I‘m sure many have read his books, I haven‘t yet. What about Åsa Larsson, Peter Høeg, Åke Edwardson, Leena Lehtolainen, Maj Sjöwall? Please suggest and discuss. Which authors can you find in your library?

Andrew65 There‘s also Karin Fossum 4y
Andrew65 YRSA SIGURĐARDÓTTIR 4y

Tove_Reads @andrew65 You choose the authors I‘ve already read 😂 4y
Tove_Reads I‘m interested in her books as well! Mari Jungstedt (edited) 4y
Texreader Gunnar Staalesen, my Norwegian husband‘s fave Norwegian author. 4y
Tove_Reads @Texreader 👍🏽 Have not read his books yet! 4y
julesG Read Sjöwall ages ago. Can't remember whether I liked it. 4y
julesG I have Asa Larsson on my shelf. Would join you for 4y
julesG I also have Will Dean's Dark Pines, but can't remember whether that is Nordic Noir. 4y
Butterfinger The names from post and comments are all new to me. 4y
Crazeedi I'm game for any of them 4y
AnneCecilie I‘ve read the first 3 books by Fossum and loved, then she changed focus a little and she lost me. I‘ve read all of the Hanns Wilhelmsen books by Anne Holt. I‘ve read the first 3-4 (?) Harry Hole books and would love to read more. I haven‘t read the others. 4y
AnneCecilie Since I live in Norway and we‘re reading Nordic authors, I should be able to get most of these from the library 4y
EadieB I own books by Asa Larsson, Kjell Eriksson, Mari Jungstedt, Liza Marklund, John Ajvide Lindqvist, Jorgen Brekke, Helene Tursten, Arnalour Indridason, Hjorth Rosenfeldt, Peter Hoag, Ake Edwardson, Kurt Eichenwald, Maj Sjowall, Yrse Sigurdardottir, Anne Holt, Jo Nesbo and Karin Fossum. @Tove_Reads (edited) 4y
Tove_Reads You people are not being helpful 😅😂 too many to choose from. How should we proceed? I‘m open to many, but so is everyone else 😃 4y
gradcat @Tove_Reads I always think of you as the expert! But I like Karin Fossum & Yrsa Siguradottir, and I‘d like to try some of the ones you told me about a few months ago. Just at this moment, I‘m reading the tagged book...and loving it....♥️ Wow! Looks like @EadieB has LOTS of suggestions!! 4y
EadieB @gradcat @Crazeedi @AnneCecilie @eanderson @Andrew65 @Butterfinger @gradcat @Marina_h @JulesG @Tove_reads @Texreader I'm going to check ratings on Goodreads and Amazon and the author with the best ratings will get my vote. 4y
gradcat @EadieB Maybe I‘ll look at those, too, Eadie—that‘s a good idea! 4y
AnneCecilie I would love to read Hjorth Rosenfeldt. He was the writer of the Swedish crime series The Bridge. 4y
gradcat @AnneCecilie Ooh! That could be cool! 4y

Ake Edwardson - Erik Winter - 3.51
Mari Jungstedt - Anders Knutas - 3.48
Kjell Eriksson - Ann Lindell - 3.46
(edited) 4y
EadieB I think for the rest of this year I‘m going to finish my Jo Nesbo books! I‘ve read 5 so far! 4y
Tove_Reads @eadieb I‘ll read Harry Hole books too, but from book number one. Will also read Larsson, Jungstedt and Viveca Sten. I highly recommend Börjlind and Schulman for those who have not read them. My suggestion is we would read Larsson and Edwardson as buddy reads. (edited) 4y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Larsson seems ok but Jungstedt is on the bottom of the list. Let's see what others think. 4y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Didn‘t suggest reading Jungstedt as a buddy read. 4y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Edwardson is on the bottom too. I would suggest the next top authors on the list. Kurt Eichenwald - Standalones - 4.07
Hjorth Rosenfeldt - Sebastian Bergman - 4.05
4y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Cecilia Borjlind has a rating of 3.96 but I need Schulman's first name. We also need to consider how many of these authors books have been translated. (edited) 4y
Tove_Reads @EadieB I‘ve read them recently, so they are just suggestions for people who are interested to read on their own. Not sure Ninni schulman has been translated into the English yet. There are so many authors out there to choose from, but I‘m sure ppl can find their own favorites amongst these to read. 4y
gradcat @Tove_Reads & @EadieB I‘m on the eleventh Nesbo/Harry Hole, only one more after that. I haven‘t read Larsson, and I think those would be good. I‘d also like to get back to Indridason‘s Insp. Erlendur series—I‘ve only read one of those. But whatever you guys decide, I‘ll likely be up for...♥️♥️♥️ 4y
EadieB @gradcat @Tove_Reads I wouldn't mind doing Larsson and Indridason too. 4y
Tove_Reads @gradcat @EadieB Should we lock Larsson? I‘ve read Indridason, but don‘t remember how many, maybe 3 first. I‘d like to have gradcat joining us this time since this round was authors you‘ve already read. 4y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I think we should wait for more people to reply. (edited) 4y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Most have said they are fine with whatever is chosen. 4y
Crazeedi @EadieB eadie I will do my best to find whatever is chosen, see my other comment about finding audio books 4y
gradcat @EadieB & @Tove_Reads I‘m easy...if I‘ve already read something, it‘s okay...it might be hard to settle on an author who hasn‘t been read by someone in the group. ♥️ 4y
EadieB @gradcat Ok good to know! Just wanted some feedback from the readers. 4y

Finally decided on my #Booked2019 #femaledetective book.
Q? When attempting multiple challenges do YOU count the same book for multiple challenges? e.g. read this book and also count it for “S” on #litsyatoz ?

alisiakae Yep! Definitely! I overlap #pop2019 and #booked2019 as often as I can. 5y
Sweettartlaura I do, too - it makes it more fun. Kinda like a scavenger hunt... I need a Female Detective, Title Starts with G, set in the 1900‘s... it can make for some interesting reading choices. 5y
