Going on with this now.

As the weather FINALLY cools I‘m seeking more time in nature, and my garden, and the kitchen. Here‘s to finding more inspiration

TheBookHippie Cannot wait to garden!!! 2d
Darklunarose @TheBookHippie isn‘t it the most wonderful thing to be out in nature with your hands in soil! We have peas, lettuce, carrot, corn, turnip and beans in so far. Tomorrow we will hopefully get some of the more fussy seeds into seed starters in the mini greenhouse. 1d
TheBookHippie @Darklunarose still snow here 🙃 I plant end of May! I start inside! 1d
Darklunarose @TheBookHippie inside starting makes the growing season start sooner! I‘m in Australia we have two growing seasons…summer has just finished and we are into the autumn season. Hoping it will be productive. 16h
TheBookHippie @Darklunarose I hope so!!! Gardening is so good for the soul!! 16h

Mehso-so

I wasn‘t sure wether to “so-so” this or to “pan” it. I was 3/4 the way through when the author became very anti modern medicine…..and that just isn‘t good. If you need anti depressants etc there is nothing wrong with that. If you choose not to that‘s ok too. But anti depressants save lives. It‘s as simple as that. So for that reason I can‘t give this book a “pick”

jen_the_scribe Yeah, I‘d have to agree with you on the anti-depressants. I‘ve personally witnessed such a drastic positive change in someone I love dearly because of anti-depressants. I‘m not exaggerating or being dramatic when I say it saved their life. Anti-depressants might not be for everyone but there‘s no doubt that they help a lot of people. 2d
Cheryl_Russell I don‘t do well without my anti-depressant. 2d
Darklunarose @jen_the_scribe I her you in that. It‘s been the same for a close loved one here. Dramatically life saving and changing. Some people can‘t take them (me for instance as I get so many side effects being chemically sensitive….my drs just adore me 😂) and some people choose not to try them. All is ok. Each is a choice. But they are life saving for so many 2d
See All 6 Comments
Darklunarose @Cheryl_Russell my loved one either. It‘s a battle hard to win without them.mwhen the medication they take was unavailable a few years back for months that was so hard on them. And little else worked. 2d
Clare-Dragonfly I very much like modern medicine. Big fan of not dying of cancer AND not having debilitating anxiety about it. 1d
Darklunarose @Clare-Dragonfly this! Without modern medicine (anxiety aside) myself and hubby wouldn‘t be here to worry what others thought of medicine! 1d

The reason I read so much non fiction is because I thirst for knowledge. This book was really good. From learning about the labour intensive production of vanilla bean to all the flowers I never knew were actually edible.

My reading for tonight.

sarahbarnes I‘m excited that gardening season is starting here where I live! 2w
ravenlee I‘m interested in seeing how you like this one. We‘ve been expanding our garden every year. Of course, this year we lost half our seedlings already to a late frost last week, and probably lost the other half last night to a hailstorm so it‘s feeling a little hopeless at the moment. 2w
PatriciaU My daughter is building a backyard garden this year - her first! She grew up trailing around her grandparents who were avid gardeners. Might have to get this for her. 2w
See All 7 Comments
Darklunarose @sarahbarnes we are lucky we get a summer season and winter season. We are in drought so the summer season was pretty bad. We should be planting for winter soon. Praying for rain…we need it so much. 2w
Darklunarose @ravenlee honestly it‘s very basic. I grew up with my mum being an avid gardener, and this veggie garden here started in the pandemic. But I still pick up little hints out of beginners books that I never thought of. 2w
Darklunarose @PatriciaU I hope she has lots of fun with it! Gardening is a joy:) 2w
Darklunarose @sarahbarnes it really is exciting! We are in autumn here but garden year round. I love summer produce BuT autumn winter is much cooler to garden. We are at the “what seeds shall we plant” stage 6d

Here are some titles that I really want to read someday:

Nightmare Inspector by Yumekui Kenbun

Ghost Diary by Seiju Natsumegu

I've collected a lot more anime over the years...can never find them anymore...

AnnCrystal Tip, if you give anime a try, try to find the complete collections if you're really sure you'll like the series. It saves you money and makes it easier because you don't have to search for the next volumes 😉🎬💝. 4w
Darklunarose @AnnCrystal those sound good too. It‘s hard when things go out of print, if you do find them they will be expensive to 4w

AnnCrystal @Darklunarose that's true, about, “out of print.“

Now that's a challenge! Best of luck.

I usually get my books from big-box stores, and now that I am avoiding those stores for at least while a certain person holds office or the stores change their business practices...my TBR buy list is going to get way, way longer...

Finished this today. Quite some interesting information on fae and fae topics.

jitteryjane724 Can you say a little more about the word “fae“, what exactly it refers to and when it's appropriate to use? Is it just another word for fairy? (And what's the difference from other spellings such as 'faerie'?) Thanks so much. 1mo
Darklunarose @jitteryjane724 that‘s a really good question. And until I read this I would have thought it was interchangeable…l use it interchangeably…fae/fairy faery/fairy. She makes some points about the words and says she also uses interchangeably but it‘s very important to make sure everyone in the discussion is on the same page. So for me yes fae and fairy are the same…the fae/ fairies 1mo
Darklunarose @jitteryjane724 I‘m not sure where the difference in the words come from. I‘m very interested in the semantics and how words come to be. But in under 100 pages she scratched the surface. 1mo
See All 12 Comments
AnnCrystal @jitteryjane724
@Darklunarose

I believe the differences in spellings are cultural and/or spelling that changes with the times. There are more variants. I read that faerie/fairy is a spirit that comes from French and fae comes from Latin? (Perhaps derived from the Fates, not sure). Been awhile since I've researched this, triple check 🧚🧚‍♀️🧚‍♂️💝...hope this can at least help guide you, jitteryjane724 onto the right research path 😉👍🏼📚.
(edited) 1mo
Darklunarose @AnnCrystal thankyou. That would make a lot of sense! It really is interesting how langue changes over time as influences from other places come in. My eldest and I watched a doco series in the history of the English language a few years back. That was fascinating how it blended as new cultures came in. 1mo
AnnCrystal
🫂💝 @Darklunarose that must have been an interesting doc. Language is fascinating. My mom and I sometimes use the pronunciation of British English for the fun...garage, telly for TV, and say “fiver“ or “tenner“ to refer to our $5 or $10, and “boot of my vehicle“ is way more fun than saying “trunk of my vehicle“ 😂😘💝.
(edited) 1mo
Darklunarose @AnnCrystal it was fascinating. One episode even looked at swear words. My husband dies that. He loves English stuff and will sometimes talk with their accents! 1mo
AnnCrystal @Darklunarose 👏🏼😂🆒 that's neat 😉👍🏼. 1mo
jitteryjane724 @AnnCrystal thank you for helping scratch the surface on the topic of fae semantics!! 1mo
AnnCrystal @jitteryjane724 glad I could help 😉👍🏼🧚‍♂️🧚‍♀️🧚💝. 1mo
inkilea FWIW, I think it came about because ‘fairy‘ became so synonymous with pillywiggins. There was a need to expand the word again, but with mainstream usage being so unchangeable people just chose to use a different spelling (like Crowley and ‘magick‘). (edited) 1mo
Darklunarose @inkilea good points. I use magick to mean ritual, and things like that, and magic for stage magic etc. 1mo
