Went to half priced books to get some books for my daughter and realized I didn't have enough of the classics for her! What are some other people's favorite picture books from when you were young?

I was looking for a new fantasy series and this was recommended by Bookriot. Really glad I read it as it is very different than my normal style. Set in an alternative historical time perios reminiscent of Rome, it follows Phedre, a courtesan who is trained as a spy and also marked by two gods. Politics, murder, religion and history but mingled with intrigue, mystery and sex.
Can't wait to read the next ones

I won this book on goodreads. I never win anything! I read it on my work trip to NY last week and liked it alot. I loved the perspective of how sexual molestation accusations affects the family of the accused. Especially as the family did not gloss or sugar coat the experience. It was a relevant read for today's times

Almost Love | Louise O'Neill
Mehso-so

I love Louise O'neill so I had high expectations for this book. It unfortunately didn't quite meet them. I had a hard time relating to Sarah. I thought she was selfish and very unaware. I didn't leave the book certain about how her unhealthy love of Matthew actually shaped her in real ways other than becoming like Matthew, in a way, in her next relationship. But the book is wonderfully written so definitely not a waste of time

I love a good psychological thriller but this was really just the ramblings of a crazed stalker. I was hoping for more twists but they never really came. Not satisfying

Read a lot of good things about this series but was let down by the first book. I didn't read the mercy thompson series and so felt out of the loop on the background of the world. There also were major events and plot that seemed to have taken place already; I kept checking that this was the first book which it was - very disorienting. Not compelling enough to keep reading

Great book. I really struggled with Elloren at first as she was so ignorant and whiny but then she grew to be a strong character. This book has a lot of great themes that are very much alive today - racial biogtry, ignorance, religious beliefs dictating how people react and a dangerous political situation that is only fanning the flames of the issues. I love the magic and folklore of the book. Can't wait to read the rest of the series

Another great one in this series. I really love stories about Wiccan practicioners as I think it is still a very misunderstood but interesting religion. Kind of sad the series is limited

I really wanred to like this book. I don't know if it was the short story format or just me but it was hard to get into. I enjoyed the gender bending and the Velveteen Rabbit retelling was deliciously horrific but nothing else really stood out for me

I was really looking forward to reading the sequel in this series, but I had some issues with this one. Mariko is a really strong character and I loved her romance with Okami. However towards the end, it was like the author gave up and just said fuck it, happy ending. There were so many story lines that could have been developed further and it was frustrating to have the story end so abruptly. I'm saying pick only because of the first book

Great world building and the heroine Rachel has some potential. Love Jenks the pixie. But the first book didn't leave me hungry enough for the next. I am still going to read the second one because I want to see what happens with Rachel and Nick

BehindthePages The second one picks up speed. Less world building and more action. 4y

The final novels of series are so bittersweet. This novel didn't disappoint other than wanting it to continue. I like the theme of classism and rebellion of this series as well as the real life emotions of the love story. It's not the typical teen love that feels fake and dumb. Mare is such a strong character with real faults. I like that this one have different perspectives of other characters, definitely interesting to be in Maven's head

A Duke in Shining Armor | Loretta Chase
Mehso-so

I got into Loretta Chase after reading Sarah MacLean's 100 romance novels and Lord of Scoundrels was good. This one only ok. Great chemistry and I loved the librarian heroine but not enough naughty bits for this romance reader. Plus too many leftover questions about secondary characters (maybe they're being saved for others on series).

I always enjoy a romance novel to escape with and this one seemed like it would fit the bill and with a curvy heroine no less; however, I didn't enjoy as much as other works of hers. Too many characters all getting romance and while the romance was nice, my jaded mood was not looking for that. The sex was too romantic and not hot enough. I didn't read the first 3 so not sure if I would have been more invested in this if I had

I'm not super into books about marriage but glad I picked this up. Louise meets a guy in a bar, David, and then finds out he is her new boss and married. Soon after she befriends his wife Adele. Then the manipulation and suspense start. Louise get tangled in both lives; what are David and Adele hiding? Suspense was great and I did not see the ending coming. There is also an element of mysticism in this books that adds to the twist

I've been a fan of this series for a long time and have read them all though the last few have not been as great as the first ones. I feel like the books have stepped into this place where the characters don't really grow anymore and previous quirks that were cute are too much now. Maybe this is due to Eve working through the abuse she suffered as a child in the previous books. I think I'm done with the steries unfortunately.

A fantastic book about magic that has a strong female character. The descriptions of magic were matter of fact but still fantastic. I liked the everyday-ness of the world against the magical and historical elements. Great read for those looking for a grown up book about magic and bad ass female characters

Naomi is hired to find Madison who got lost in the woods three years ago. Naomi's history as a lost child herself brings a mystical, sad but determined quality to the story. I really loved the perspective and stories of these two characters woven together. I also loved the the descriptions of the nature and characters that Naomi comes across in her investigation

I really loved this book; it ended up being more than I was expecting. Theo is a high school teen with plans to be a professional ballerina. She finds out that her best friend, who went missing four years ago has just been found alive. This brings up memories of that time and she struggles to deal with them. Theo is such a strong character and her struggles and emotions are very real.

Even Apollo liked it... maybe too much

An easy read but I ended the book not being satisfied. I didn't really feel the connections of any of the characters outside of Livy and Nelson were well developed. The interspersed chapters of the fugitive were not interesting which was a shame cause he had the potential to be more interesting than most of the others. It was a book to pass the time but not one I ever read again or recommend to people.
