“Words have the power to create and kill.”
“He had a very young man‘s belief in the absolute rightness of his own cause and the absolute wrongness of everyone else‘s.”
I love these illustrations!
My local library‘s Friends of the Library used book sale (AKA my favorite holiday of the year) was this weekend! I got all this for about $15. Yay!
I love when books have illustrations, and this one is just so relatable!
I can‘t believe I went so long without reading this book! I absolutely loved it and recommend it to anyone looking for a little magic in their life.
This was a really interesting book! If you like nonfiction about people who have been overlooked by history (a la Hidden Figures), check this one out when it comes out September 10.
I‘ve been in a reading slump lately, but this book got me out of it. Totally lives up to the hype. Alex‘s constant “how did I ever think I was straight” was super familiar to me, and the romance was sweet and compelling. 🏳️🌈💗💜💙
“When you fight evil men, good intentions can't protect you.“
Trying to learn some non-American/European history for a change.
If you ever wondered what would happen if the Library of Alexandria was never destroyed, this series is for you! Caine imagines it as a corrupt institution focused on remaining in power at all costs. Great YA series for book lovers!
“What‘s the point of being a potentially all-powerful wizard if you can‘t even have cheese and crackers when you really, really deserve them?”
These chapter titles are cracking me up!
Hey! Look at this cool thing I made at my library‘s adult craft program. Libraries aren‘t just for books! #locallibrary #artsandcrafts #publiclibraries
What I wouldn‘t give to have this much confidence.
This book was great! The humor reminded me of Douglas Adams. Go read this! Get an edition with the illuminated capitals if you can.
“Most books on witchcraft will tell you that witches work naked. This is because most books on witchcraft are written by men.”
Loving the illuminated capitals in this edition!
“Evil in general does not sleep, and therefore doesn‘t see why anyone else should.”
I‘m enjoying this one so far. Seeing Sidra/Lovelace and Pepper/Jane learning how the world works is really interesting and makes me realize how much ordinary stuff I take for granted.
Working on this book while I get caught up on cleaning.
I really liked this one! I could have done with less about the paleontologists the author knows, but the focus was still on the dinosaurs themselves. The audiobook narrator was also very good.
I loved this book! Space adventures, found family, with just a smidge of interplanetary politics thrown in. It felt like a cross between a Star Wars book and Firefly. I will definitely be reading the next one.
“Truth is a tenacious thing which will not long be ignored”
“Acting all sanctimonious while spouting bad info was a terrible way to win a debate, but a great way to piss people off.”
I loved this one just as much as the first one!
“For a woman who boasts that she doesn‘t give a fig what anyone thinks of her, I certainly have a lot of party-related anxiety.”
I read this book all in one sitting and it made me cry.
This is really interesting so far.
It took a while for me to get into this book, but I did enjoy it. I kept wondering how Christie was going to get out of her predicament. There wasn't always much action but I felt like that made sense with the plot. I appreciated that the author provided a list of the things that really did happen so you know which parts are fiction. Overall, I would rather read something written by Agatha Christie than about her, but I give this book 4/5 stars.
I won‘t have much time to read for the next week because I‘m taking my end-of-program exam for my MLS, but I did manage to start this for a book club. It hasn‘t sucked me in yet, but since my time is limited, that‘s probably a good thing!
Read this for my book club. I read it in one sitting and cried twice. If you‘re looking for a romance with a relatable heroine and a happy ending, read this.
Someone‘s sitting in my reading chair, so I‘m reading the tagged book on my bed instead. #catsoflitsy #cats
Audiobook and a lazy Sunday afternoon.
“I think the world has had quite enough of white, middle-aged, grumpy detectives“
I've read several books by this author and loved them. Hope this one's good too!
Rereading Harry Potter again even though I have lots of unread books on my TBR. #reread
I only read this because it fit a reading challenge category, but I ended up really liking it! It felt very realistic, and while there was some teen drama it wasn‘t overwhelming. A little cheesy, but an overall fun read. 4/5 stars, will probably read more by this author.
Rereading one of my favorite nonfiction books.
We finally have good weather for the first time in a while so I‘m enjoying my dinner on the back porch with a book.
This was a reread, but my first time reading it as an audiobook, and I loved it even more in this format. Novik has a way of making fairy tales seem fresh and new, and I highly recommend this book.
I loved this book! It was a little more literary than I usually go for, but that‘s part of what made it great. This book provides a great look at other cultures while highlighting the things that all humans experience. 5 out of 5 stars, and I plan to read her first book as well.
“He was a man most himself when roaming the contours of life's riddles.“
This has been on my Audible wishlist for a while, but it's Tor's Book of the Month pick, which means I got the ebook for free! You can get your freebie here: https://ebookclub.tor.com They have mobi (kindle) and epub (everything else) formats. You do have to provide your email address.
TBH I picked this up because I liked the cover, but it also fits one of my reading challenge categories.
Audiobook and crochet - my favorite Sunday afternoon activity.
