Local Girl Missing
Local Girl Missing | Claire Douglas
Twenty years ago
21-year-old Sophie Collier vanishes one night.
She leaves nothing behind but a trainer on the old pier -
and a hole in the heart of her best friend Francesca.
Now
A body's been found.
And Francesca's drawn back to the seaside town she's tried to forget.
Perhaps the truth of what happened to Sophie will finally come out.
Yet Francesca is beginning to wish she hadn't returned.
Everywhere she turns are ghosts from her past.
The same old faces and familiar haunts of her youth.
But if someone knows what really happened to Sophie that night then now's the time to find out - isn't it?
Except sometimes discovering the truth can cost you everything you hold dear - your family, your sanity and even your life . . .

Admitting defeat with this one. It started off okay but it has gotten to the point where I am avoiding picking it back up. DNF @ 30%

Finished this up on my lunch hour today. I thought I had a sense for what the book was, but the ending surprised me and flipped everything I thought I knew on its head. A really solid thriller

This was my #bookspin from October. Now onto November‘s pick. I‘m getting caught up slowly but surely!

Perfect plane reading... kept my attention long after I should have been trying to sleep and helped me tune out everything around me. Douglas did heap everything on a little bit thick but kinda par for the course in this kind of book.

The hardest part of packing is figuring out the paper to ebook ratio. And trying to predict what I‘ll be in the mood for. And deciding which clothes have to stay behind to make more room for paper books. I think I‘ve got it figured out but I‘ve got 24 hours before I leave to change my mind.

LeahBergen I love your book sleeve! 6y

RealLifeReading I had a 3 week vacation recently and it was the first time I relied solely on ebooks! 6y
janeycanuck @RealLifeReading how did it go? Did you wish you had some paper books? 6y

Great debut set in my own hometown. Loved all the local landmarks. It is told in the first person, which I prefer, and alternates between two best friends, Francesca, and Sophie who went missing in 1997. A dead body washes up and Francesca goes home to face her past. It was eerie and tense. I bought her next book after reading this! (Vicki FitzGerald, author of Briguella)

I will admit that at points in this book I needed some bigger twists.. but the ending and the big twist really made up for it! Interesting thriller about a complicated friendship and insecurities.

This one was just ok. The writing wasn‘t great. There was a lot of repetition. It was fairly predictable. But yet, it was an easy read and it held my interest. Not a bad #readathon choice. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #24in48

1) A photo of the leaves on our wedding day in October 7 years ago!
2) The tagged book; got it as a kindle deal today and it sounds like a great mystery for fall.
3) Milk 🍫
4) Pseudoephedrine (the active ingredient in Sudafed and most cold meds!)
5) A “Call, Don‘t Fall” sign in my mom‘s hospital room! 😂

aschermetz @ForeverNerdy Thank you friend! We brought her home today! Long road ahead and I am feeling really freaking sick of cancer these days but we will get through it because that is life. I have many things to be thankful for. ❤️ 7y

I enjoyed this book very much! It started off slow enough but I had a hard time putting it down! I really believe these types of toxic friendships exist, especially in the high school years. Anyways, recommend!

Honestly, this book seemed a bit of a train wreck. The story line was okay for a while (though kind of slow), and then it wasn't. Got rather ridiculous near the end. I didn't think the writing particularly good -- overly dramatic at times and felt as though the author was trying too hard, which made it seem more like a cliched high school or college paper.

Really enjoyed this dark claustrophobic story. The setting & weather almost form another character, providing a perfect backdrop for the masses of twists & turns. I admit I had guessed the twist at the end. If I had to come up with a gripe it would be that the end feels a little contrived. But the fact I was jumping at noises while reading at night counteracts that for me. I loved The Sisters by Douglas too & am looking forward to her next release

I started this yesterday morning and I've already finished it; I think that's a pretty good indication of how much I enjoyed this. It was twisty and turny with suspects galore, and mystery and intrigue and everything that a good thriller should have.

Sunday and my last day of freedom before I have to go back to work tomorrow after two weeks off. I plan on making the most of it by reading this book right to the end and then doing something completely unproductive. I hope everyone is having a great weekend wherever you are!

My footy team just lost their finals match and I'm kind of dejected. So the only sensible thing to do is drown my sorrows in this excellent book and a glass of wine.
