#12DaysofChristmas #May

I fell asleep so this one is a day late.

This is around the time my resolve to review books consistently fell apart as usual.

I love this one. Ana Castillo‘s writing is beautiful and poetic. Carmen, despite having polio as a child, is a renowned flamenco dancer in Chicago. I love reading about Carmen, her passionate love affairs, her relationship with her family, and her strength.

Bookzombie These two books, tagged, were strong contenders for May also. 11mo
Andrew65 Yes, the same month my records fell apart, have a had to spend a couple of intense days getting them back on track this week. 11mo

Reggie This is one of my all time favorite books ever! ❤️ 11mo
Bookzombie @Reggie 🙂 You recommended it to me. 11mo
Bookzombie @Andrew65 That sounds like no fun. Sometimes I don‘t track all month and catching up for one month alone is a pain. 11mo
Andrew65 @Bookzombie Had 6 1/2 months to catch up on 🫣😱 But now back on track! I must not let it happen again 😂 11mo
Bookzombie @Andrew65 That is a lot, lol. 11mo

This writer puts you squarely in the midst of a character‘s experience. The story dances & you can get dizzy at times. This is a story of a flamenco dancer who despite having polio as a child is admired and respected for her skills. She is involved in 2 relationships that create issues for all involved. We see her as she ages & explores new avenues & develops a newfound respect for herself. This is the 2nd book Reggie has sent me by this author.

Suet624 #bookspin for May. @TheAromaofBooks Thank you so much, @Reggie for bringing this author to me. (edited) 1y
Ruthiella Another successful #Reggimendation 👍😃 1y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 1y
Reggie @Suet624 ❤️ I‘m so glad you liked it. It‘s a top 10 book of my life for me. I just read it at the right time. She‘s a poet and you can tell from her writing. That writing‘s my jam. 1y
Reggie @Ruthiella Lol ❤️I get so tickled when I see that. 1y

Thank you @Reggie for the beautiful card and your kind words. We are, indeed, #romantsy kindred spirits😀 💖 I'm sure Peel My Love Like an Onion came from you. Thank you it looks so good, I can't wait to start it. Am I right to think I have you to thank for Friend Zone too?

Reggie Did they just all arrive today? Lol, I need to better coordinate my mailing of things. Yes, they came from me and I hope you enjoy them! 😊 4y
Cathythoughts How lovely 😊💕 4y
CarolynM @Reggie They were all in my post box today as separate items, but it's been a week or so since I checked the box, so they didn't necessarily arrive on the same day🙂 I'm thrilled to have them now, though, so thank you once again😘 4y

Rissreads I bought Peel my love like an onion after reading @Reggie review of it. Let me know when you are going to read it and I will join you! 4y
CarolynM @Rissreads Lovely idea! I'm not feeling very motivated for anything too demanding at the moment, but maybe sometime next month, if that works for you. How are things with you? It's nice to see you posting here again🙂 4y
Rissreads Whenever you want to give it a go I‘ll join you. I‘m not fussed. I‘ve had lots of family stuff to deal with so I‘ve been very quiet on Litsy. I hope to have more time now 🤞🏼 4y

#Movember #Music #Dance
Madonna wants to “...dance with my baby/And when the music starts/I never wanna stop”
Carman, a famous flamingo dancer, ends the tagged book by stating: “I dance and dance and dance.”
@Reggie if memory serves This book was included in a very generous book exchange from you! ❤️📚💃
Music and Dance. 🎼💃

1. No, sadly. Everyone just shortens my name and calls me Redge.
2. The tagged book which is one of my all time favorites.
3. No, and it makes me want to scratch my eyes out when I see someone say “hype ruined this for me.” Do yourself a favor, go in blind and don‘t read reviews. Lol
4. It helps but isn‘t a deal breaker.
5. Anyone else who wants to participate.

Reggie @Bookzombie Thanks for the tag. Happy Belated Birthday? I think you turned the big 40 during your Litsy sabbatical. Did you ever go to the SA book festival? If so how was it? And do you call your husband Papa Bear? 5y
SW-T Love the responses to 3 & 4. I try to ignore reviews until after I‘ve read something because a lot of times it feels like the review isn‘t even about the same book. 😂🤔😂 5y
Reggie @SW-T lol, thanks.Or I just wait for the hype to blow over and give it a while. 5y

Crazeedi I really never read reviews, I'll decide myself thank you. Now I have taken recommendations from littens who have similar tastes as I do 5y
Reggie @Crazeedi exactly, you kinda have to have a circle of friends here whose reading tastes you trust. 5y
Bookzombie @Reggie 💗 Your memory is excellent! My 40th birthday was at the end of March. I did go to the festival. It was a lot of fun. I saw a number of interesting authors and added to my TBR. I don‘t really have nickname for my husband. What‘s been going on with you? 5y
Tex2Flo Agree with foregoing reviews. I tend to only read them AFTER I've read the book to find out if my view is similar to the book jacket or reviewer (not).
Also, hate to spoil any surprise i. Tend to rely on a ranking system by people who like the same kinds of books that I do to tell whether or not I want to read it.
If I do happen to read a review, I wait for YEARS after to read the book itself so I've forgotten altogether.

Sometimes a book will put you in someone else‘s body, in someone else‘s love affair...and then make a profound comment that feels so personal to you, the reader, in your real life. It‘s some kind of magic.
Here you‘ll find beautiful writing about passion and jealousy, illness, ageing, family...(so much to highlight!) as you step into the shoes of Carmen, a beautiful flamenco dancer no longer able to dance, as she recounts her loves and losses.

Centique Thank you so much @Reggie for recommending this book. I have some quotes that I‘m going to think about over and over for a few days. It really put new thoughts in my head like no book has done for a while! And I liked the ending. 18yo me wouldn‘t have 😂😂 but these days I‘m more realistic, and I like what it says about Carmen 👍 6y
batsy Wow, your review! That first paragraph especially... When books do that 💕 6y
Reggie I can‘t tell you how over the moon I am that you liked it. This book was very important to me in my late 20‘s. It had and still has a lot to say to me. So happy you liked it. 6y

#HeatofJuly Carmen‘s #onedance has always been flamenco. When she was younger and had polio in one leg, a teacher influenced her life forever with a lesson in flamenco. Years after having been a world famous flamenco dancer, after a disastrous decline in health, after a tumultuous love triangle that left her out in the cold, she will finally get her groove back. I love this book. Castillo is a poet first and this book is in my top 10 of all time.

BarbaraBB I don‘t know it but love its title 😍 6y

DivineDiana That‘s a strong recommendation! Stacked! 6y
Reggie @overtheedge @RachelO @emilyhaldi @DivineDiana if ya‘ll ever read it, I hope you like it. Try not to let my hype set it it up for failure, lol. I found this book in a used bookstore when I lived in Las Cruces and it was the right book for me at the right time. I don‘t know if you‘ve ever had those books. Where the book you start reading is an answer to the question life is asking of you at that exact moment. Anyways, happy readings. 6y
emilyhaldi Yes 🙌🏻 the best when that happens. Will keep that in mind when reading this 😉 6y
Lindy Thanks for reminding me about this wonderful book. It‘s years since I read it but I remember loving it. ❤️ 6y
Reggie @Lindy you might be the only other person I know who‘s read it. Glad to see love for it. 6y
Lindy @Reggie I‘ve also read Castillo‘s Loverboys & the delightful 6y
Reggie @Lindy I loved Loverboys, Sapagonia, and her essay memoir, Black Dove: Mama, Mijo, and Me. 6y
ValerieAndBooks One of the books you sent me 💖! I really need to get to it soon. Have to become a faster reader!! 6y

#recommendsday I put this book out there cause the book I'm reading now, Other People's Weddings by Noah Hawley, makes me realize how much i love reading books by people who are poets in their souls. Ana Castillo writes this awesome Chicana Feminist (its so much more) book about a woman who has polio at a young age but through flamenco finds who she is and becomes this woman with an appetite for life.

Reggie @Michael_Gee @Bookzombie @psalva Hi ya‘ll. Suvata is doing her last round of LPMBC. Was wondering if ya‘ll wanted to do the last round with me. Queer, horror, queer horror, queer romance, queer non fiction, queer at least because the round will end in Pride month. If you‘re interested go to Suvata‘s page and scroll down like 4 posts. It‘s ok if you say no, no pressure. 9mo
