The terrifying new thriller from the Sunday Times bestselling author of I AM DEATH. After a tough week, Tanya Kaitlin is looking forward to a relaxing night in, but as she steps out of her shower, she hears her phone ring. The video call request comes from her best friend, Karen Ward. Tanya takes the call and the nightmare begins. Karen is gagged and bound to a chair in her own living room. If Tanya disconnects from the call, if she looks away from the camera, he will come after her next, the deep, raspy, demonic voice at the other end of the line promises her. As Hunter and Garcia investigate the threats, they are thrown into a rollercoaster of evil, chasing a predator who scouts the streets and social media networks for victims, taunting them with secret messages and feeding on their fear.

4.5 ⭐

Chris Carter is a giant in the psychological thriller genre. His books are addictive and can be a little gory. 'The Caller' is the 8th book in the Detective Robert Hunter Series. Carter takes a look at what can happen with people posting every little thing they do on social media.

Detective Robert Hunter and Detective Carlos Garcia are called to one of the most burtle scenes they have seen. A note is found and they think they are 👇

Monica5 are dealing with a stalker. As more bodies pile up, they realize they have never dealt with a stalker like this before.

Don't read this series if you have a weak stomach. Do read this if you enjoy serial killer or psychological thrillers.

Creepy! You should really be careful of what you post on social media. It‘s also very important to remember even inane information regarding your loved ones. #SeriesLive2023 @Andrew6 @TheSpineView

Another brilliantly chilling episode in the Robert Hunter saga has left me sleeping with the lights on. This one toys with the trauma of helplessly watching a loved one die because of something you can‘t remember. I can‘t get enough of these books!

Tanya Kaitlin gets a video call from her friend, Karen Ward. Karen is gagged and bound to a chair. Tanya is told that if she does not cooperate, he will come after her next. Hunter & Garcia chase a predator who scouts the streets and social media networks for victims, taunting them with secret messages and feeding on their fear. Short chapters w/cliffhangers that made you want to read on. Great pacing. Killer hard to guess. Highly recommended.

You‘ve got to love the Robert Hunter Series - great plots (often unique), great characters and books that move at a pace. However they are incredibly graphic / gritty, sometimes I wonder why as they do not need this element, would be great books without these. I do love the central character & how he has been affected by events in his life if you love great crime fiction, great detectives and can stand the gritty I really strongly recommend these.

EadieB Nice review! I agree they don‘t really need to be that gritty! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Thanks. He is such a great writer they don‘t need that gruesome element. 5y

Schedule of the Group Read of #TheCaller, Book 8 in the Robert Hunter Series, which is taking place on Librarything.
If anyone wants a great series, although a little bit gritty 😱😳😂, then cannot recommend this one highly enough. Robert Hunter is a great character.

Another fantastic book in this series. Sad I'm almost finished until he publishes a new one, even though a new one just came out in May 😂🙈

I really love how Carter goes in to description on some of parts of this book! Makes it feel so much better to read when you can actually really visualise what‘s going on, no matter how morbid it may sound.

This book is taking me a while, I do want to know what happens but I‘m not that excited about it, and some of the descriptions are gross 😷

Sophoclessweetheart This looks so snug! I‘m sorry you‘re book isn‘t quite doing it. I‘m feeling the same with mine and at that, I‘m loving it! Just craving something else right now x 6y
BeckyK I‘m super cosy 😊 thanks! Me too, I think I need something lighter. Between this and Fight Club I need a good old Chic lit 😂 6y

This book is getting good now. I‘ve been listening to #3rdDegree by James Patterson on Audible too so I‘m getting the stories a tiny bit confused! Does anyone else do this? I end up merging characters and stories until I start reading/listening again!

Next read! The last of the 4 library books I checked out. If I bail on this then that‘s 3 out of 4! I don‘t know what‘s wrong with me. Do you Littens have picky phases? I read The Best Of Adam Sharp really easily, but have struggled with the other 2. Hopefully this goes better! 😊 Happy Monday!

pageturnerA Just finished this book and loved it ...yes it doesn't leave a lot to the imagination with the descriptions the idea is very apt for this day and age 6y
BeckyK @pageturnerA I agree with the idea being appropriate for this day and age, I just couldn‘t get along with it at all. Glad you enjoyed it though 😊 6y

Not necessarily the best of the series this was nonetheless a solid read. The case set up was the right mix of creepy and engaging and I found it an easyread after a tough week.

The story line itself is great, I love the switch in point of view and again characters are well rounded. It's a gripping book, however, the amount of spelling mistakes are astronomical and can often interrupt the flow. Meaning I would get into a chapter and be reading along and before you know it a spelling mistake, which began to annoy me after a while. I would also have liked to have seen more of the women in Hunter's life. Overall, good read.

I was lucky enough to receive a review copy of this book. It has been on my wish list for months. I was not disappointed this book was as amazing as all those that have preceded it. All the favourite characters are back and I must admit to having a crush on Robert Hunter. The mixture of crime novel with just enough horror is as good as ever. There are parts of this book I simply didn't want to read. The details of the murders are that graphic.

Really enjoying this book. Very gruesome in some places. Shame I don't have more time to read it though.
