Speed reading is about reading (and being able to recall) more written information in less time. TEACH YOURSELF SPEED READING is a practical guide to effective speed reading. It includes tools and information on a variety of reading and memory techniques, including a five-step strategy that will enable you to read any non-fiction material easily. TEACH YOURSELF SPEED READING: Allows you to start using and practising the techniques as you read. Offers a selection of techniques - choose the ones that suit you best. Teaches you how to read effectively under pressure. Helps you to concentrate in noisy and distracting environments.

I need to read faster...

PurpleyPumpkin Wow, just imagine how many books we could get through in a lifetime if we could read this quickly! But would we truly absorb and enjoy what we‘re reading?🤔 5y
Megabooks My parents offered to send me to a speed reading course in the 5th grade. It is one of my biggest regrets that I didn‘t do it! 5y
julesG @PurpleyPumpkin That is what I've been wondering about a lot. I can speed read non-fiction, journals, etc. But that's for research, I take notes, or am just looking for specific information. When I try the techniques on fiction, I soon get FOMO and go back to the start. 5y

TrishB Wow 😮 that‘s warp speed! 5y
PurpleyPumpkin @julesG Exactly! Every time I‘ve considered taking a speed reading course, I‘ve ended up taking a pass because I‘m concerned that my reading enjoyment would be affected. But, it would still be a useful skill to have in certain instances, like for work. Maybe someday... 5y
Scochrane26 Speed reading would be nice for work-related things, but I wouldn‘t want to use it for pleasure reading. Would we feel the same emotions? Don‘t think we would get the same enjoyment or be able to process emotions. 5y
Maewyn I just watched a YouTube video about speed reading and it basically said that while people can learn to read faster they lose comprehension when they read faster than their normal pace. I suppose it is good for things that you "have" to read but I struggle with remembering plot even with going slow. ? 5y

This is my problem most of the time. I have always been a very fast reader. I try to make myself slow down, but when a book is getting good its difficult. 😢 Anyone else??

This quiz shows you your average reading speed, how long certain books would take you to read, and how many books you could read in a year if you set aside a certain amount of time to read every day! So cool! (Thank you to @HufflepuffGirl90 and @Lauram for posting about it first 🤗)

Interesting! It's funny because I don't consciously read fast, it just seems to happen that way. Also interesting that they can determine this with such a short sampling. I wonder how accurate it is 🤔

Cortg Oooh. I got all 3 questions correct but I read 14% slower than the national average 😂That‘s ok. I know I‘m slow but I retain it all! 6y
ScrappyMags That was fun. I was 313 but i couldn‘t see it well on my phone lol so it‘s likely faster. I‘d guess I‘m probably about 400. I start slow too and pick up speed.... 6y
Cinfhen I got 2/3 questions right🙈but I read 102% faster than national average...fun...thanks for sharing 6y

emilyhaldi Very interesting! 6y
Bry 258 for me - right there with the average 8th grader 👍. I‘ve always found that it takes me a while to adjust to a new book/writing style, trying to orient myself to the situation so I‘ll blame it on that. 6y
saresmoore That is a pretty brief sample. I got about the same as @Bry —it doesn‘t help that the writing was some basic drivel. 😂 6y
The_Heeler_Booklife I got 326... 6y
Q84 Wow I read really slow! And you can make the passage longer in the settings on the right top corner of the 'tablet' 6y
swishandflick @Q84 sweet, thanks for flagging that! Totally missed it 6y
swishandflick @saresmoore You can pick a different text and longer sample by tweaking the "options" tab (top right corner of the tablet) before you start! I just did it again with Alice in Wonderland and got basically the same score. (edited) 6y
swishandflick @ScrappyMags if you hit the "options" button top right of the tablet before you start you can pick a bigger font! 6y
Andrew65 Did it twice and got two totally different results! 6y
saresmoore @swishandflick Oh, that‘s helpful, thanks! 6y
OriginalCyn620 Very cool! Gonna do this! 6y
CouronneDhiver Interesting ... I got 326 words per minute. Not fast, not slow. 👍🏽 6y
ScrappyMags @swishandflick oh good to know!! 6y
ScrappyMags Yup 340 this time and 100% accurate... I‘d say that‘s my speed 👍🏼👍🏼 a little faster than most but not super fast. 6y

I'm a speed reader! Definitely true - we're going on holiday this week - Mum will get through 1, Dad will get through 3 and I'll get through at least 8!
