"A Catholic cop tracks an IRA master bomber amidst the sectarian violence of the conflict in Northern Ireland The early 1980s. Belfast. Sean Duffy, a conflicted Catholic cop in the Protestant RUC (Royal Ulster Constabulary), is recruited by MI5 to hunt down Cormac McCann, an IRA master bomber who has made a daring escape from the notorious Maze Prison. In the course of his investigations Sean discovers a woman who may hold the key to Cormac's whereabouts; she herself wants justice for her daughter who died in mysterious circumstances in a pub locked from the inside. Sean knows that if he can crack the "locked room mystery," the bigger mystery of Cormac's whereabouts might be revealed to him as a reward. Quite a thrilling ride in this book covering some key world events of the eighties, and how they linked (in some cases) to the Troubles in Northern Ireland. At times this felt a bit disjointed but it did come to a thrilling end, with some viewpoints about what next for Ireland, some that have come to pass and some that possibly still could. I felt a feeling of hope at the end of the book, which is strange giving the hopelessness of the times!

JaclynW I felt hope at the end too! I finished this a few weeks ago. I'm having fun with this series. I'm rediscovering the joy of following a series all the way through and really getting invested in the characters. I'm glad Duffy pulled himself together and got back to what he's good at. Getting glimpses into The Troubles has been an education that has me wanting to learn more. @Tove_Reads @EadieB @Andrew65 6y
Tove_Reads @JaclynW Freaking out a bit. @Andrew65 just posted about Dead Men when I wandered around GoT locations, and then I read your comment about The Troubles while having a beer at Belfast klis pub. *** dramatic music *** (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Spooky or what! 😳 Dead Men takes me back into Northern Ireland and main incident in the introduction took place 2 years after the Good Friday Agreement (which Unbelievably was 25 years ago)! (edited) 6y

Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Yes I was confusing them. Good Friday Agreement was in 1998, the IRAs ceasefire statement was in 1994. 6y
JaclynW @Tove_Reads OooOoooooOoooooo!!! 😱 6y
Andrew65 @JaclynW We‘re reading book 4 with a start date of 25th May. 6y
JaclynW @Andrew65 Great! I will plan on joining in! 6y

Time to play catch-up on the #SeanDuffyBuddyRead by reading book 3 in the series. Quite interesting timing given the events in Northern Ireland over the weekend. Need to get this read before the library claims it back!
#AdrianMcKintyBuddyRead

Tove_Reads It‘s a good one! 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads An interesting start. Thought I needed to read this as due to read the next one in May (25th). (edited) 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Starting this tomorrow!@Tove_Reads 6y

Andrew65 @EadieB I thought you‘d already read it. I also need to catch up on The Treatment by Mo Hayder before the library intervenes. March and early April was impossible. @Tove_Reads 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Yes! I did read that one! 6y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 @EadieB End of May is good for the 4th one. Andrew can catch up with other series 🙃 The library has it and Ritual in Swedish, but I hope they‘ll get the third Casey as well. They used to have one, but it “disappeared”. Which Follett and Binchy do we read in May? 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Maeve Binchy - The Copper Beech. Don‘t think we made a final decision on Ken Follett. What about A Dangerous Fortune - a historical mystery. I‘m a bit confused, have you both read The Treatment? It would be good to get to the third Casey at some point. @EadieB 6y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 treatment yes, both of us. Will read the third Casey one way or another soon! I‘d love to read Dangerous Fortune - own it! @EadieB 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads So do I so that sounds like a plan. @EadieB? 6y

1980s, Belfast. Sean Duffy is recruited by MI5 to hunt down Dermot McCann, an IRA master bomber. Sean finds a woman who may hold the key to Dermot. The clock is ticking down to the Conservative Party Conference in Brighton in 1984, where Mrs. Thatcher is due to give a keynote speech. Will Duffy get there in time before the bomb goes off? 3rd book in series and the best so far. Well-paced plot. I recommend them to those who like mystery thrillers

So far I‘m really enjoying the third book in this series. It‘s by far been the best one! Really warming up to this author. I especially enjoyed reading about the damp, gray Norn Iron in the beautiful spring morning sun at home 😊

EadieB @Tove_Reads I finished this during the readathon. Loved this book! @Andrew65 (edited) 6y
Andrew65 Will be later on this week before I can get to this. 😢 @EadieB (edited) 6y

Do we have a schedule for April? I believe we will start this one on Monday? Then Silver Wedding 19th. I have a bit of trouble getting the third Mo and Casey, but working on getting them! Code to Zero between McKinty and Binchy? Will we read Heresy, A Conspiracy of Violence or House of Shadows?

EadieB @Tove_Reads @Andrew65 I would say start McKinty book on April 1. I‘ll be in Florida the 3rd thru the 8th but we can do Code to Zero during 2nd week. Silver Wedding on 19th. House of Shadows because it‘s a single book during 4th week. I think we should do Heresy first since it is 5 books then Gregory Conspiracy of violence next because it is 13 books. We can do Hayder and Casey when you get them. But we need to hear what Andrew thinks too. (edited) 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB I‘ll be on vacay 18th-1st. Traveling the second half of that, but will carry a book with me for sure. Looks like Hard Brexit now, so will most likely have a hard time getting books fast in the near future, but let‘s hope they‘ll work it out soon. @andrew65 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads We will have to ‘play it by ear‘ and just see what you can get as there are lots of other books we can read in the meantime. @Andrew65 6y

Tove_Reads @EadieB I have the rest, except for Mo and Jane. But, they are the only books missing in the series so you‘d think the library would get them. Have requested them. Just ordered House of S, and Conspiracy, and should get them in a week. 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads ok sounds good! @Andrew65 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads To be honest not sure what Brexit, if any will happen. Whatever happens I think there will be a big delay even if there is a Brexit. The Prime Minister needs to go, a total lame duck! 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I‘m on holiday too from 13th - 28th And hope to do plenty of reading. @EadieB 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB A very busy work weekend but will try to look at a schedule. @Tove_Reads (edited) 6y
Andrew65 We did have this book down for 1st. @EadieB @Tove_Reads 6y

I‘m reading this series all out of order, but I‘ll take it as I find the books! Love imperfectly human Sean Duffy, lonely Catholic among the Protestant RUC. Set during the Troubles, he begins each day of policing with a bomb check of his car. The mood I‘m in, would love to have Sean as my bestie, he gets things sorted and doesn‘t mind breaking the rules.

julesG Congratulations! They look great! If you are like me, you'll now make a pair for each different way to turn the heel and shape the toes. (That's what I did, only to discover that I don't like knitting socks because they have heels that need turning.😉) 7y
Michelle_mck @julesG I am doing toe up this time - I think after thought heel is for me - I'm in the middle of one for the first sock I did still not finished but I enjoyed that - though love how a heel flap feels. Socks are the perfect Commute project for me on the bus 7y

Some audible and on the homeward stretch of my first pair of socks - this new knitter is having lots of fun and loving this book - the narration is great #litsyknitter

Sace Looks like you're a pro a knitting! Socks are so much fun. Back when I knit more they were my preferred projects. 7y
Cspen113 I need to learn how to knit! I think I would enjoy it. 7y
mjdowens Yaayyyyy...another fellow sock knitter🤗. Getting to be fall which means more patterns to try. 7y

cathysaid Gorgeous colors! What kind of yarn is it? I just knit a pair with Lorna's Laces and it is my new fave. 7y
Michelle_mck @mjdowens it's the end of winter here but hoping to knit socks year round - good to knit during an Australian summer - nice and portable 7y
peaKnit 👊🏻yay sock knitter! I have 5 singles at least right now, yikes!! 7y
mjdowens I think I knitted a small shawl in this color way. Isn't this Happy Feet? 7y
Michelle_mck @cathysaid this is from and Australian indie dyer called Fiber Lily she is on Etsy and this is the the Lourdes colourway - it's lovely and soft it's 80/20 so nice 7y
Michelle_mck @Cspen113 it's great - excellent for mindfulness for me 7y
mjdowens @peaknit I have terrible one sock syndrome myself. I want to learn how to knit two at a time 7y
Michelle_mck @peaknit I'm doing my best to do complete sets - have one half done sock - need to finish it after I am done with these 7y
Michelle_mck @mjdowens it's in my list of things to try, going to do magic loop for my next caston 7y
mjdowens I have watched videos on how to do magic loop, but have not attempted it as of yet 7y
peaKnit I have tried magic loop, something about wrestling with dpns is appealing to me😂 7y
Michelle_mck @mjdowens @peaknit I got a Craftsy class on sock knitting so have tried 9 inch circulars which I didn't love, this was 2 sets and next magic loop then 2 at a time, top down, toe up - try all the things - see what I love 7y
mjdowens I have not been on crafty is a long time. I usually knit plain "vanilla" sock patterns as I don't have to think about it and can get a pair done in a week. I just feel like I should try some new stuff. I will look for those classes and try one also. Thank you 7y
Michelle_mck @mjdowens this is the vanilla latte pattern which is really simple it's free on ravelry 7y

Third in the sean duffy series set in 1980's northern Ireland - sean is a catholic officer in the mainly protestant ruc at the height of the troubles. Im enjoying the books but i dare not count the number of crime series i currently have running and at times I lose track of which grumpy detective is which!

saresmoore Haha! I can imagine a cartoon to synthesize all the grumpy detective character traits. 8y
andrew61 I'm picturing a very complicated spread sheet or entertaining game of top trumps where categories could include alcohol consumption, preferred music, deceased or injured partners, level of insubordination etc 8y

What a great end to the trilogy. Glad to learn that Sean Duffy returns in other McKinty mysteries.
