GUARDIANS OF GA'HOOLE is a classic hero mythology about the fight between good and evil. This series is filled with adventure, suspense, and heart. In the first book in the GUARDIANS... series, the reader is introduced to Soren, a barn owl and the centerpiece of the series. When Soren is pushed from his family's nest by his older brother, he is rescued from certain death on the forest floor by agents from a mysterious school for orphaned owls, St. Aggie's. When Soren arrives at St. Aggie's, he suspects there is more to the school than meets the eye. He and his new friend, the clever and scrappy Gylfie, find out that St. Aggie's is actually a training camp where the school's leader can groom young owls to help achieve her goal--(cont.)

I finished the final hour of this audiobook during today's #scarathlonsprint hosted by @Laugherhp.

I never expected that a story about owls could be so captivatingI loved the distinct personalities of the various characters and the fast-paced plot. It's much darker than I'd have expected for a children's book.

I went into this book knowing this is not my typical read, so I already kind of had low expectations.

There is so much violence and evil in this book, that it almost felt like it had to be an allegory of something, or a cautionary tale, or it could just be a very violent world depicted. The darkness of tone didn‘t bother me. I persevered to check this off #BBRC for the #AnthropomorphicCharactersPublishedBefore2010 prompt.

hannah-leeloo I love the film I was a few of the books too. 3y
LibrarianRyan This was such a big book series when I was still a children's librarian. I just didn't get it it. I didn't care for it either.

Librarybelle @hannah-leeloo @LibrarianRyan I can remember when this was incredibly popular at the library! I‘m not seeing it check out as much anymore, and I actually forgot about the movie until I started reading this. 3y

This one was DARK, holy hell! 🤣 My youngest board member, 19yo, recommended this to me. A great read but not my favorite listen; the narrator does voices and they grate.

LibrarianRyan I never saw what kids liked in these books. So so so popular and I could not get through them. 3y

For when the world one knew began to crumble away bit by bit, when not only your memories but the memories that others might have of you grew dim with time and distance, when, indeed, you began to fade into a nothingness in the minds of [those] that you loved best, well, perhaps that was when legends could become real.

This quote has stuck with me since I finished the book. I keep coming back to it and reading it over and over again.

I really didn't know much about this book going into it. I was pleasantly surprised by how well written it was. For a children's book, it still was able to interest me and keep me reading.

1. Not gonna lie I can‘t stand these books but kids love them. The movie sucks.
2. labyrinth (and the Goblin King)
3. Make me think of group/person Owl City

When I saw #DeadRoses as a prompt it made me think of my sister and best friend. Both keep dead roses in their rooms. So this is my sister‘s dead roses along with her favorite series from when she was younger! 💀 🌹 🥀

Day 20 this is the closest I have to a rural setting #ruralsetting #aprilbookshowers @RealLifeReading

Gina I am just smitten with this book series. I love how the author studied owls for a non fiction but but saw so much character in them she turned it into a fiction series. And the facts she uses about the owls (how they eat, pellets ect) are factually accurate. 8y
jfalkens @Gina I love this series,it's one of my favorites! That is pretty amazing ☺ 8y

Texreader

Highly recommended children's series if you love reading about freedom loving societies. The whole series is without a doubt brilliant and must read for lovers of Liberty. So underrated out there and the movie left out the free-society themes. Too bad. Very nice plug for Ray Bradbury in the series.

HeatherBookNerd My kids loved those! 8y
