Tongue
Tongue: A Novel | Kyung-Ran Jo
1 post | 1 read
Emotionally raw and emphatically sensual, Tongue is the story of the demise of an obsessive romance, and a woman's culinary journey toward self-restoration and revenge. When her boyfriend of seven years leaves her for another woman, the celebrated young chef Jung Ji-won shuts down the cooking school she ran from their home and sinks into deep depression, losing her will to cook, her desire to eat, and even her ability to taste. Returning to the kitchen of the Italian restaurant where her career first began, she slowly rebuilds her life, rediscovering her appreciation of food, both as nourishment and as sensual pleasure. She also starts to devise a plan for a final, vengeful act of culinary seduction. Tongue is a voluptuous, intimate story of a gourmet relying on her food-centric worldview to emerge from heartbreak, a mesmerizing, delicately plotted novel at once shocking and profoundly familiar.

#Virtual Tour of Scotland hugs the north coast of Scotland, which is about the most remote part of Scotland you can find, for much of the drive it is single track. When the sun shines on the white sand it is way beyond beautiful. The pictures really don‘t do it justice. White sand, sea, sand & mountains, what more could you want.

How was Easter Sunday in lockdown for you? How did you manage contact or no contact with families. A good day or not?

IamIamIam I'm curious is Tongue pronounced like the organ?? LOL, I'm so impressed with Scotland's gorgeous beaches!!! We're trying to get set up on Zoom for a virtual Trivial Pursuit game with my parents & brothers. Happy Easter, all!!! 🐰💓💓 5y
Prairiegirl_reading My sister and I ordered dinner for my folks and had it delivered. I‘m totally fine to stay home. I started a puzzle and listened to an audiobook, it was lovely and quiet. Had a video chat with my sis and nephew and his girlfriend last night. Feeling ok today actually. 😄 I‘m curious about Tongue also. And thanks again for the lovely photos of Scotland. 5y

TheBookHippie I cook ..I cook ...I put plates out they get picked up...I drop plates on porches and held a solo Easter egg hunt for grandbaby in my backyard I watched from inside. I watched Easter service online. Mr book hippie cleaned it all up did all the dishes and ordered me to read. Love him. Happy Easter all! I‘ve fed the neighbour hood and my family and extended family! Nap time . Also I now need to go to tongue! Hope your day was good everyone! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 More nice photos! I wonder where they got some of these names for these places. Spending most of my day trying to read but talking with many people on FaceTime and Messenger. Enjoying my grandchildren's pictures and videos of their Easter festivities. Hope you are having a better day today and that you are getting a lot of reading done. I'm still trying to finish my Sebastian St. Cyr book but it's been another busy day. 5y
Kimzey I was in Iona, Scotland last summer. So beautiful! Today watched Easter service online, FaceTimed with Sis, spoke to my Mom by phone. Severe weather expected later...⛈🌪😯🙏🏻 5y
CocoReads Very low key. We did a family group text. My sister and Mom posted links to the church they‘ve been attending online service. Other friend posted links to theirs. Everyone in my house has to work tomorrow so we‘re going to make some dinner soon and go through our back to work routine. Read a little, took a nap. Very low key and quiet. 5y
TheBookHippie Oh ANDREW the PM!!! Yay!!! 5y
Ms_T Easter is an event I‘ve never celebrated but I‘ll take the bank holiday Monday! For me today was a Sunday like any other so I cleaned, cooked and did the laundry. I also finished a brilliant audiobook. Tomorrow will be my relaxing day. How are you, Andrew? 5y
JacqMac We have been eating chocolate and cookies all day. I have a rib roast in the oven for our little family. Usually, my dad comes to visit this time of year. But this year he came at Christmas instead. Like he had a premonition or something. lol It has been a good day, so far. Aside from the endless snow. 5y
Andrew65 @IamIamIam Good luck with Virtual Trivial Pursuit. Yes as far as I‘m aware, my favourite part of Scotland, beaches to die for, especially in the sunshine. Happy Easter. 🐣 (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @Prairiegirl_reading Sounds as if you have made the best you can of the day. It is so beautiful in that part of Scotland. 5y
Andrew65 @Birdsong28 Sounds like a good day. Spent the day watching some classic cricket from the past, Reading, weeding the front and back garden, work on the Readathon and discussing school next week as part of the handover where I (and second half of staff) aspire to take some time off this week, although will still have one or two admin tasks next week. (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Just love Tongue! Sounds a very successful day all round. Positive news re PM as think those around him need a guiding hand at the moment. Happy Easter 🐣 (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Thanks, a better day than yesterday. Was finishing watching some cricket so didn‘t get as much reading time in as I should. Challenge next week will be trying to avoid school and what is going on there. Hopefully get plenty of reading done if I can focus. You seem to have a good social day. 😊 (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @Kimzey Good luck for the severe weather, hope you come through it safely, sending positive thoughts. Scottish Highlands and Islands are so beautiful. Sounds up till now you have had a good day. Take care. 😊 5y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Low key and quiet is good for these times we are in. Sending positive thoughts for next week. 🐣 5y
Andrew65 @Ms_T What was the brilliant audiobook? I‘ve had a better day today than yesterday, such a roller coaster at the moment. We‘ve never really done that much at Easter either. Currently listening to the 4th book in the Hangman Daughter‘s series. 5y
Andrew65 @JacqMac The chocolate and cookies sound good! Lucky that he came at Christmas this year. 😊 Sounds a good day, but snow! 😳 5y
TheSpineView That looks like a beautiful part of Scotland. Hope to visit some day. All is well in my tiny part of the world. I am a little frustrated at the shortages. I keep reminding myself that in the grand scheme of things it is a minor detail. Happy Easter!🐇🐇🐇 5y
Andrew65 @TheSpineView Happy Easter 🐣 Those shortages can be frustrating! Please to hear things well in your part of the world. 😊 So beautiful and relaxing! (edited) 5y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks How are you Andrew? I‘ve been alone all day. Claire is at her dad‘s. I got up at 8 and made a run to Dollar General for milk and a few other items, read, took a nap, and did some laundry. I‘m about to work on some #LitsyLove... I hope you are safe and well!! 💙 Happy Easter 🐰✝️ 5y
tracey38 I had a other fairly lazy day though did get laundry done and a little cleaning. Got some reading done. We're supposed to get strong storms overnight and through the morning tomorrow, on my commute to work. Praying for no damage. 5y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Hi Misty, reasonably good, or as well as can be in the circumstances! Such surreal times that seems to be going on and on. Trying to get more of a reading habit going again but tiredness and fatigue doesn‘t help with this. Hence the Readathon. All safe and well here, hope you are too. Happy Easter to you. 🐣 5y
Andrew65 @BookwormM I think all our sleep habits are awry! 5y
Andrew65 @AprilMae Sounds. Very productive day. 😊 5y
Andrew65 @tracey38 Sending positive thoughts and hope storms are not too bad for you, amongst everything else this is all you need! Other than that sounds a successful day for you. 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Andrew65 thank you Andrew! Being off an entire week at a time has me out of sorts... I‘ve got to get into a routine in the weird circumstance we find ourselves in... take care and sending love 💙 5y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Yes a routine in this current reality is important, praying that we successfully get through this situation as quickly as possible. But the long haul so got to find a way to adapt to this situation. Sending all my love and best wishes. 🥰 5y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick All that clear water looks so beautiful! All is well today but not overly productive. Eh, I can do laundry & dishes tomorrow. Not like I have anywhere else to go right now. 😁 5y
DieAReader Talked to my parents briefly but other than that it was an Easter like I‘ve never experienced before. Yo-yo of a day. Glad it‘s done with & a new one starts soon. Happy Easter everyone 🐰🐣 5y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Yep, they‘ll still be there tomorrow, as will you. The water is so beautiful especially when the sun shines. 5y
