"Casey is a true craftswoman, a writer who beguiles one through the most twisted of plots with a confident and seductive hand. Let The Dead Speak is sharp, complex and gripping to the very end" Alex Marwood, bestselling author of Wicked Girls and The Killer Next Door When eighteen-year-old Chloe Emery returns to her West London home she finds her mother missing, the house covered in blood. Everything points to murder, except for one thing: theres no sign of the body. London detective Maeve Kerrigan and the homicide team turn their attention to the neighbours. The ultra-religious Norrises are acting suspiciously; their teenage daughter and Chloe Emery definitely have something to hide. Then theres William Turner, once accused of stabbing a schoolmate and the neighborhoods favorite criminal. Is he merely a scapegoat, or is there more behind the charismatic faade? As a body fails to materialize, Maeve must piece together a patchwork of testimonies and accusations. Who is lying, and who is not? And soon Maeve starts to realize that not only will the answer lead to Kate Emery, but more lives may hang in the balance. With Let the Dead Speak, Jane Casey returns with another taut, richly drawn novel that will grip readers from the opening pages to the stunning conclusion.

I am starting to appreciate Derwent more and more with each book. He is still a pain but he is a softy in his own way. There was so much going on and the final reveal I had figured but not exactly how. I love this series and I‘m looking forward to the next! Book 2 finished for #JoyousJanuary

It‘s a tie! The Maeve Kerrigan series (can‘t pick my fave). Absolutely brilliant author, and Maeve is the best! Together with Peter May‘s Lewis trilogy the best of the best in 2019. So many good reads, but it was easy to choose in the end. Well, easish...

Tove_Reads Actually Angela Marsons won! 4y

18 year old Chloe Emery arrives home and finds her mother missing and the house is covered in blood. But where is the body? Casey grips us from the opening and doesn't let go until the close of the last page. Cleverly paced and full of twists, she has us hooked. Lots of suspects but who is lying and who is not? Maeve Kerrigan must piece things together. If you have never read Casey before, now is the time!

EadieB A true craftswoman of mystery, she is not to be missed. I must read the next book very soon and I highly recommend this series if you enjoy mystery thrillers. #LetTheDeadSpeak #JaneCasey (edited) 4y

Tove_Reads @eadieb @Andrew65 was thinking about taking part in the December readathon and The Missing could be one of the books. What do you say? Or have you read it already? 4y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I own it but have not read it yet. We can read it in December but everyone reads what they want during readathon. No set books. 4y
Tove_Reads @eadieb I know, but would be nice to read it together 4y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Yes that would be nice! Ok sounds good! @Andrew65 4y
Andrew65 I‘d be happy to give it a go in December. About halfway through this book and enjoying it, but could do with a bit more on the personal life of Maeve - but first she has to have one. 😂 @EadieB @Tove_Reads I wish she‘d bin the Georgia character though, Pleased to see playing less of a role in this one so far. (edited) 4y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 Wait til towards the end and the actual end ☺️ 4y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Will do. 🤞 4y

Another excellent book, this is truly a first rate series that I recommend to anyone who likes high quality detective fiction or strong female lead characters. This book saw Maeve promoted to Detective Sergeant and working with a new detective, as well as with Derwent as usual - this lead to some interesting dynamics. This was quite a multi layered story and there were certainly some interesting twists. Now onto the next, but currently, last book.

EadieB @Andrew65 Nice review! I have 50 more pages to go! This is I believe the best from the series! Very creative plot! @Tove_Reads (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Think I‘d agree, a lot happens in the last 50 pages, enjoy. I now want to go onto the next one. 5y

TrishB Agree, a great series 👍🏻 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Oh no. 🤞 5y
Andrew65 @TrishB Definitely and only seems to get better. 5y
MicheleinPhilly I just finished Cruel Acts and at the end there was a chapter from the next book coming out in Spring 2020. 👍🏼 @TrishB @EadieB 5y
EadieB @MicheleinPhilly Oh does the Philly library have a copy? I‘m going to Philly tomorrow and I do belong to the main branch. Need to read it now that I have finished this book! @Andrew65 There is a copy in Southampton but it‘s checked out so I‘m sure it will be any day now that more copies will arrive in Bucks County! This series is soooo good! (edited) 5y
MicheleinPhilly @EadieB I don‘t see it in the catalog. I bought the e-book for $4.99. 5y
EadieB @MicheleinPhilly That‘s an option too! Well I‘m going to read Adrian McKinty‘s first book he wrote in the meantime as it‘s due back on 10/22. 5y
TrishB @MicheleinPhilly not too long to wait 😁 5y
Andrew65 @TrishB @MicheleinPhilly @EadieB @Tove_Reads Agree, not too long to wait. Have also downloaded from my library the novella ‘One in Custody‘ which bridges the gap between ‘Let the Dead Speak‘ and ‘Cruel Acts‘. @MicheleinPhilly Did you enjoy Cruel Acts? 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 It was nice to hear more about Rob and what a surprise! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes but not altogether surprised, I wonder what will happen with Maeve now. Not much about the ulcer in this one, the job won‘t help! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I‘m wondering if Rob was forced into this situation. I‘m just wondering why no communication with Maeve since she was living in his place. So strange! I see Maeve and Derwent getting together. But even that‘s complicated with Michelle and Tom. (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB All very strange around Rob, I‘m not sure I see a Derwent and Maeve in a ‘love‘ relationship, think it would be a total disaster. They feel more like brother / sister type relationship. I wonder why Rob just disappeared and no contact. 5y
Tove_Reads Yes, another brilliant addition. I‘ll pick up Cruel Acts on Saturday. Want to read it before my vacay. All my free time has been about getting ready, planning and booking, so I haven‘t had that much time to read lately. @Andrew65 @EadieB 5y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 I hope there‘s more of Rob in the next book. @EadieB 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Me too! I need to know what is going on with him! @Andrew65 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I get the feeling he is done in these books, but could be wrong! @EadieB (edited) 5y

Started the seventh book in the Maeve Kerrigan Series, which I am hoping to read over this weekend. This really is an excellent series, and given how the last book ended I am looking forward to seeing where this book takes us. Thoroughly recommend this series to anyone who likes detective books or strong female leads. I am reading this with @EadieB and @Tove_Reads

Continuing my “stick with the books you have in front of you lest you have to navigate stairs” binge of the Maeve Kerrigan series (I‘ve read 6 this month.) I‘ll likely take a small break before I dive into the latest and I hope Maeve gets a “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” holiday complete with Taye Diggs in between. Clever plot, interesting character development. 👍🏼

Seventh outing for Maeve Kerrigan & Josh Derwent. Maeve is now a DS & there is a new, young, ambitious DC who is predictably as annoying as hell!

It was OK, but I‘m still annoyed at what the author did to Maeve‘s AWOL boyfriend, Rob. 3⭐️

Up to date in the series now! This was number 7 and the best so far. The plot was great and lots of twists and turns and some personal life twists for the MC.

My current read has lots of #suspiciousminds in!

When I said it was Elvis today my daughter said I had to tell her Elvis story! So (it makes me look bad!)... She has been mad on Elvis since she was 6 and the films were on in the holidays. After watching the last one she said to me - I can't wait to grow up and marry Elvis 💝 👇

TrishB I said, not thinking - you'll have a job he's been dead 30 years! She sobbed her heart out all day, wouldn't speak to me and waited on the stairs for her Dad to come in. She's never forgiven me and tells everyone this story! 7y
Cathythoughts How old is she now? She sounds like an amazing young lady. 💕my father used to say if nothing went wrong we'd have no stories to tell ! and now ye have a great Elvis story to tell ( I'm sure she has secretly forgiven you) ❤️ 7y
BarbaraBB I also still want to marry Elvis. That voice! Those moves! Those looks 😍! So I do understand your daughter! 7y

litmuggle That's so cute. Maybe that's just her way of paying you back for all the embarrassing stories you will tell about her when she's older. 7y

Centique I love that story! 7y
Cinfhen Great story! I don't think ANY of my kids know who Elvis was 😫 (edited) 7y
TrishB @Cathythoughts that's a great saying from your Dad 💓 she's 16 now and still loves Elvis! 7y
TrishB @BarbaraBB he was pretty amazing! 7y
TrishB @Cinfhen 😔! We had an Elvis youtube party last night. The 68 comeback special is rock and roll gold!! I also love American Trilogy from the 70s Hawaii gig. Personally I think I deserve a medal for watching all the films because the majority are pants!! 7y

Just OK. OK characters, OK plot, until the end when some of the actions taken by the detectives seem unbelievable. And I don't quite get the relationship between the main character, Maeve, and a fellow detective that seems to be an important part of the series. More puzzling than passionate. Don't plan on reading any of the other titles in the series.

This was fine. I'm not sure why I didn't like it more. I really like Maeve Kerrigan although I think her relationship, both working and personal, with DCI Josh Derwent is just twisted. I suspect I wasn't that into THIS book was bc the mystery itself didn't do it for me. I wasn't that interested in the initial murder and the subsequent investigation or the neighbors. But, the characters remain intriguing and the writing is still very good.

I started reading this knowing it would be a great gripping read and I wasn't wrong! Casey writes such clever books and this was another, with lots of twists that kept me going until the very last page revealed more answers. I would love to pick her brain to ask how she puts these stories together.

TrishB I've just ordered number 2 and 4 after reading the first! I'm late to the party with this author! 7y
Laru79 But think of the great reading binge you can have when you get them! I have Hide and Seek of hers to read soon, another of the teen series she's written, so that should keep me going for a while, but I already want her to write more!! 7y

I started this yesterday and already want to quit my job so I can just sit and read it! I LOVE Jane Casey's Marge Kerrigan books, they are gripping, well thought out and have characters you really get to know and root for.

I loved this book. I loved the plot the characters. The book follows the hunt for a murderer. Things are never quite as they seem. The book delivers a number of twists and turns.
