One thing I always love about Milan‘s books is that they face the burdens of injustice despite being set during a period steeped in it.

This one started off really slow for me, but picked up at about 25-30% in. After that, I flew through it and fell in love with the characters. I ended up finishing it tonight while laying in bed with Miss Nina, as she took *absolutely forever* to fall asleep...
This is 2/6 finished titles for my #JubilantJuly goal! 😊 @Andrew65

I‘ve said it before and I‘ll keep on saying it because it‘s true: Courtney Milan is SO DAMNED GOOD. With UNVEILED, she puts her characters in an impossible position, further complicates it with intense sibling loyalty on both sides, and proceeds to show us how they negotiate their way through it all not just as lovers but as people who like and respect one another.

This is my favourite kind of romance.

My phone died on Tuesday, under highly stressful but tl;dr circumstances, and I spent the rest of the week so anxious I could barely read. Now I‘ve finally got a replacement phone, I‘ve cleared away the anxiety triggers, and I aim to gulp down as much prose as I possibly can before the weekend‘s over.

Intense Monday night plans.

I might watch some trashy TV, too, because I know how to live.

Daisey I wish I had these kind of Monday night plans! I need to get off Litsy and grade assignments. 6y
xicanti @Daisey good luck! I hope you finish quickly so you can read something more fun than student work. 6y

I loved this book. Ash is an absolutely great character. He is strong, determined, loyal, but also vulnerable and doesn‘t let anyone see except Margaret. I also loved how strong Margaret is. She is torn between her love and her family.

I've got 22 unread 2018 acquisitions and zero chance I'll finish 'em all before the year ends. 😭 So much for my grand plan to read everything ASAP after it came in. I'll do better in 2019.

Book stats, my fave new year's day activity. Overall happy but surprised with 2017. Can't believe I read only a third sff - when I started keeping track it was to remind myself to read outside that genre too. Women authors went down 10% from 2016 but diverse books went up 9% so not bad. Biggest concern is that 0 means it's been 2 full years since I read a book in a language other than English - 2018 goal is min. 1 French book/month

llwheeler Tagged book was my last read of 2017, very enjoyable romance 7y

And with this book, I finish #litsyatoz titles and authors! I'm keeping this challenge for 2018 because it was fun, but I'm not bothering to plan out titles next time... I changed my mind on almost everything lol, only read 2 of my planned books for title and 6 for author.

Andrea4 Are you doing any other challenges in 2018? I am going to do #poetrychallenge2018 @Natasha.C.Barnes because I❤poetry and I was thinking the Reading Women one but then saw the Aussie one and that looked pretty cool. Actually a challenge each year themed by country would be an awesome thing to tackle! 7y
llwheeler @Andrea4 I still have #192019challenge on the go too. Other than that, prob just my personal challenges to read at least one shelf of tbr books and to finish off series that i've read one book of thd 7y
llwheeler Argh, delete key way too close to send key. *that i've read one book of then never got around to finishing 7y
llwheeler @Andrea4 The poetry challenge does look awesome though! 7y
Andrea4 @llwheeler yea, i thought why not since I can incorporate ancient authors easily into that one too! 7y

A good one! Really enjoyed the extras giving a bit more background on the story—like why Milan made the hero dyslexic.

I'm in a #romantsy phase again! And Courtney Milan comes to the rescue. I'm beginning to think she can do no wrong 😊As a newbie to romance I'm discovering I really prefer heroes that are not 'assholes' and heroines that are not ingenues. I like the way that Milan trumps the tropes - particularly when you're expecting characters to act selfishly or thoughtlessly and they do something sensible instead!

heikemarie I really like Sarah MacLean, Tessa Dare, and Sophie Jordan's newest (stepping away from ingenues) for that same reason? Do you like/have you read them? 7y
Centique @inwhichHeikereadsharder I haven't read those! I'm definitely looking for others to try so I'll add them to my list thanks 😊 The other authors I've read and loved are Laura Florand and Jennifer Ashley (Mackenzie series) 7y
heikemarie @Centique I have been eating omg to read the MacKenzie books!! Thanks for the recs! 7y
Centique @inwhichHeikereadsharder I've just gone and bought my first Tessa Dare - thanks! 7y

It's rare that I read out of order. I read the third book before this one. I felt like reading a comfort romance and Milan is a good choice for that. I enjoyed the relationship between Margaret and Ash. Both went on a journey and found each other at the end of it. I went back and reread the novella (which was very much a stand alone in the series). Comfort reading rating high 🍪🍪🍪#romantsy

Courtney Milan never disappoints. This is the first book in the Turner Brothers series and it was a delight. It did everything I think a romance should do, which is to say that the heroine was complex and kickass while still allowed to be a hot mess, I was in love with the hero, and I could not for the life of me figure out how they'd be able to be together until the very end of the book. A Labor Day's reading well spent.
