Lockwood & Co: The Empty Grave
Lockwood & Co: The Empty Grave | Jonathan Stroud
After their recent adventures, the Lockwood & Co team deserve a well-earned break . . . so naturally they decide to risk their lives breaking into a heavily-guarded crypt. A building full of unsettled souls, its also the final resting place of Marissa Fittes, the legendary and (supposedly) long dead ghost hunter. What they discover their will change everything. So begins a race to get to the truth behind the Problem, and an epic struggle against the Fittes agency. A struggle that will pit the team against the most terrifying enemy they have ever faced. Not even the dead will survive unscathed . . . Jonathan Stroud once again delivers a rousing adventure full of danger, laughs, twists, and frights, with incredible revelations that will send readers back to Book 1 to start the series all over again. I can't believe this last book!!
Stroud did an amazing job of keeping me not just on the edge of my seat but also laughing thanks to Skull these last few books as he's gotten more and more lines as he's a bit more integral to the story.
So many great moments but more than anything I loved how much the characters grew from book one. I mean.... This last one had so much going on and I loved every minute of it.

Excellent conclusion to an amazing series. I read these books so fast. I love the Lockwood & Co team, although I think Skull is my favorite character. His lines made me laugh out loud!

An amazing conclusion to a series that has quickly become one of my favourite of all times (by quickly I mean within four days)! The characters are as sarcastic as ever and often made me laugh out loud. The author potrayed the emotions so well and I was so scared for the characters that I found myself skipping half of the page just to see they were OK. I will re-read the whole series soon, I can't wait to be immersed in this amazing world again.

George is my favorite character in this series. This little bit about him in book five is exactly why he is my favorite.

Though a bit predictable, this was a great conclusion to the series. I hope these characters will appear again some day.

While it‘s nice to have finished another series, I would read more books about these characters. Stroud did an excellent job of pulling everything together. I enjoyed that there was a bit of a backstory for Flo. She is a side character I was always curious about. #screamathon

I feel like I‘m dragging my feet on this audio. Not because it isn‘t good, but it‘s the final book and I‘m worried about my friends. #screamathon

The fifth and last Lockwood book is a worthy conclusion to the series. It went into a direction I had not expected. Normally I'm not a fan of YA, but this is the exception. The series could make a great scary tv show one day.

julesG We loved this series, too. Can't wait to reread with the little kid. 😉 5y
PickwickPlockPlock @julesG I would love to read this with my son. It will have to wait for another few years, though 👻💀 5y

LiljaPleasant Loved Lockwood! This will be one of the series I'll read for my ducklings 😁 5y
PickwickPlockPlock @LiljaPleasant My son will probably find it less scary than I did when he's a little older 🙈 5y
LiljaPleasant @PickwickPlockPlock Yeah, same here... Eventhough I have two girls... But I'm a real scaredy-cat 😅 5y

Finally getting some energy to do a bit of year end wrap up posting! This isn‘t 100% accurate since it doesn‘t account for the two I added today but it‘s close. I like that my most and least popular books were Austen related. I‘m pretty proud of finishing the longest book. My average rating is just where I like it to be, mostly 3-4 star ratings. And while the highest rated wasn‘t one of my top reads, the series is excellent so I‘d recommend!

I did get a little audio puzzling done at the beach but then my husband started helping me, which was fun, and we did most of it together sans audio. Women writers book covers. 😍

Sigh. I want to spend so much more time with these characters. Can't there be more please? This one pulls together big series plot lines and was squee-worthy at times while still downright creepy at others. I'd like a book from George's perspective. Oh or maybe a graphic novel origin story 😍more more! #mommyreads #ya #ghosts

This week I fell off my TBR-wagon and succumbed to comfort reading romance. But I‘ve still been ordering books from the library plus a bunch of books have been released and my kid has been interested in new things... Anyway, moral of the story is I‘m drowning in library books! See the above piles and the overflowing shelf in the background. I‘m getting a bit of library anxiety so culling is coming soon. And thankfully the week is almost over.

mcipher I do the same thing - comfort library borrowing and then stress about not being able to even begin to make a dent in the reading! Hope your weekend is very relaxing to make up for what sounds like a no-fun week! 6y
Bookzombie @mcipher I also do this. 🙂 6y

The latest outing from the always-enjoyable Lockwood & Company series. Stroud creates a vivid alternate reality where life is ruled by the Problem and society's only hope are children armed with rapiers. The tales are just a touch creepy, and the characters are engaging. It's a series that is worth your time.
