The Goblins of Bellwater
The Goblins of Bellwater | Molly Ringle
25 posts | 23 read | 34 to read
Most people have no idea goblins live in the woods around the small town of Bellwater, Washington. But some are about to find out. Skye, a young barista and artist, falls victim to a goblin curse in the forest one winter night, rendering her depressed and silenced, unable to speak of what happened. Her older sister, Livy, is at wits end trying to understand whats wrong with her. Local mechanic Kit would know, but he doesnt talk of such things: hes the human liaison for the goblin tribe, a job he keeps secret and never wanted, thrust on him by an ancient family contract. Then Kit starts dating Livy, and Skye draws Kits cousin Grady into the spell through an enchanted kiss in the woods. Skye and Grady are doomed to become goblins and disappear from humankind forever, unless Livy, the only one untainted by enchantment, can unravel the spell by walking a dangerous magical path of her own.

#2018Book107
I'm a big fan of the poem "Goblin Market," so I was totally here for this modernized version of it. All of the fantasy elements were incredibly well done and I enjoyed getting to know the four main characters. My only complaint is that the romance between the two unenchanted characters felt a little forced at times, but that might just be my cynical side talking.

I‘ve compulsive sometimes, just have to get a book based on the cover.
Was it Shakespeare? No.
Did it hold my interest? I finished it in one sitting, so heck yeah.
Easy read, a nice change from Disney-fied mythical creatures, and ENCOURAGES SAFE SEX!! YA usually skips over the actual sex scenes, Ringle made a point to at least go as far as a condom being fetched 🙌🙌🙌

If you want Goblins, Faeries, a family curse and lots of romance, then this is for you! I read this on kindle so took me a while as I usually only pick it up when I'm in bed on a night or on my phone when I have nothing else. I found it lots of fun. My only issue was that the finale is 35-40% of the book and it dragged a bit. 4🌟

Sophoclessweetheart This sounds amazing 7y
laurieluna @Wanderingwithwords it was really good! Very descriptive. The characters were easy to imagine too. I could see this being made into one of the many popular TV shows around, like Once, or Riverdale etc, it had that kind of feel. 7y
Sophoclessweetheart Ahh! I‘m not one for YA but I adore anything to do with Faeries and goblins 😉😍 7y

My current read pile (tagged book on kindle) they're all good so I'm reluctant to drop any. Amber Spyglass and Crooked Kingdom are from my January TBR carried over, Garden of Small Beginnings from this months TBR, Dark Side of The Sun part of the #ookbookclub readalong and I always like to have something going on Kindle and thats currently Goblins of Bellwater. 😥 Never again she says...until next time...

jpmcwisemorgan Oh, it‘s 99 cents in the US too! 7y
TrishB My kindle is dead! It won‘t download anything at the moment. I think it‘s telling me it‘s old! 7y
laurieluna @TrishB mine's getting on a bit too. I usually find restarting helps? I also use the app for back up 😊 7y
TrishB Done the restarting - app still fine but don‘t like reading on my phone! It may actually make me read some of them already on there of course... 7y

I love the poem "Goblin Market" by Christina Rossetti and discovered this amidst relatable searches. This was categorized under Teen Fantasy in my store, although I think it falls in that "weird between" older teen/ young adult category. I wish more of the book focused on goblin lore and the goblins themselves, but I enjoyed it overall.

A bewitching tale of curses, enchantment, and the power of the unseen. In the woods around Bellwater, Washington, a tribe of mischievous goblins dwell. So long as their human liaison, Kit, brings them a tithing of gold each month, they will (mostly) behave. But if the tithe is late…

Awesome read!!

How could I resist a book inspired by one of my all-time favorite pieces of writing, Christina Rossetti‘s Goblin Market? Molly Ringle‘s reimagined Market takes place in the forests of present day Washington State, where we are introduced to Kit Sylvain, a young man bound by a family curse to take care of a tribe of goblins. I devoured this book in 4 hours. It's quick, it's quirky and whimsical. I enjoyed the writing and the concept but and yes there is a butt some of it felt only half finished, like it was still in the rough draft process.

Still!

A book about four individuals, two separate families and one of the family members is a liaison for Goblin kind, forced to steal for them. Oh and there is a curse that disrupts the other family...

I really liked this! It's somewhere in the middle between YA and New Adult (swearing, sex, etc.) and the story is something that I'd never heard before. Thanks #NetGalley 🤗
