Each year for ten years, a young womans body was found in Edinburgh at Christmastime: naked, throat slit, body washed clean. The final victim, Kirsty Summers, was Detective Constable Tony McLean's fiance. But the Christmas Killer made a mistake, and McLean put an end to the brutal killing spree. Its now twelve years later. A fellow prisoner has just murdered the incarcerated Christmas Killer. But with the arrival of the festive season comes a body. A young woman: naked, washed, her throat cut. Is this a copycat killer? Was the wrong man behind bars all this time? Or is there a more frightening explanation? McLean must revisit the most disturbing case of his life and discover what he missed before the killer strikes again . . .

My #WinterReadathon Christmas lights entry! My plant window is decorated for Christmas. The tagged book is my current read, and I‘m enjoying it (number 2 in the series), but I need to power through and get to some lighter fare! I‘m loving the Winter Readathon prompts even when I don‘t participate; I‘m enjoying seeing what everyone is posting! @Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES @DieAReader

Mehso-so

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I did the first. The story flowed, the characters were vivid and realistic, but sometimes it was like the story couldn't decide if it wanted to be paranormal or not. There were hints and bits thrown in, but never felt truly committed until near the end.

BookishMadHatter I would have liked the story a lot more were it not for the Emma/McLean dynamic. I just don't like Emma; her character annoys the life out of me and I can't bring myself to care for a single part of her. She shows up at McLean's house unnannounced and crawls into bed with him more than once without his knowledge/consent. 2y
BookishMadHatter Then, when they both have a day off, she gets upset and throws a childish tantrum because a female work colleague calls him about a work situation with a superior that he needs to fix. This was because she had plans that were ruined, when really, McLean had no clue about her intention to spend the day together because, again, she just showed up at his house unannounced and stayed the night. 2y
BookishMadHatter While McLean doesn't have any problem with it in the story and actually seems apologetic about the situation for some bloody reason, I do, and I think it's mostly because if a man did any of those things (repeatedly showing up out of the blue and just staying in a female colleague/friend's bed that they had romantic intentions towards) he'd be vilified and marked as a weirdo or perv or stalker or something. 2y
BookishMadHatter Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's my inherent dislike of her skewing the situation, but it soured my experience of the story a little. 2y

Book 2 of the Inspector McLean series
McLean is very different from other cops. Copycat murders are happening that mimic the Christmas Killer from book 1 that died a month ago in jail. There are unexplained fires burning down old factories. McLean butts heads with his superior at every turn. Father Anton visits McLean and tells him the book is causing the deaths and McLean has to destroy it. ⬇️

Crazeedi I was engaged by the combo of police work and the supernatural. 3y
Crazeedi Thank you @EadieB for the book, looking forward to continuing this series 3y

Bklover I just got Oswald‘s Natural Causes in the mail and couldn‘t remember why I bought it. Finally realized it was this post! Looking forward to starting this series! 4y
EadieB @Bklover I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Just a warning, his books do have a supernatural slant to them but it is not overpowering. (edited) 4y

Bk3 finished in my #24B4Monday #readathon I‘m still going, haven‘t passed out yet! This was the 2nd book in the DI McLean series & it was just as good as the first. It combines scottish police with a touch of the supernatural, like Rebus combined with Dresden. The man convicted for the murder of McLeans fiancée ten years ago is killed in prison. A week later, a body turns up killed exactly the same way, then another. Is there a copycat?

julesG 😱👏👏👏👏 5y
Andrew65 I think I‘m up to book 7 in this series, and it is a really excellent series. 5y

Yet another sleepless night means I‘m almost finished my 3rd book of the #24B4Monday #readathon but also means my headache is back🤕So I‘m switching back to the audio of Leviathan Wakes until I get a few hours sleep and then hopefully finish off this readathon with the last few chapters of this book. How‘s everyone else‘s readathon going?

Ladyval05 Sorry that you‘re having a difficult time sleeping. But, wow! You‘re really knocking it out of the ballpark! 5y

Just had a quick tea break before getting back into my #24B4Monday #readathon After two NF reads I decided to go with the 2nd book in the DI McLean series which was in Friday‘s #libraryhaul This series is fantastic, I‘m really hoping the library has all the other books, I really hate it when they‘re missing one or two which you have to buy, then you‘re left with like Bk4 or 5 with no others. Annoying😠On a happier note, my time is looking good!

Andrew65 This is a great series. 5y
ljuliel You are blowing this readathon out of the water 💦! Great job. 👍🏼 5y

2nd in the series about an Edinburgh detective with a slightly supernatural element. I enjoyed it and add it to the never ending police procedural Scottish series i have running. Suitably for the subject on returning it to the library i saw this gruesome stuffed vicorian white otter, any excuse for a litsy photo - luckily no one noticed me oddly sneaking a photo

IReadThereforeIBlog I like the supernatural elements in these books - gives a nice eerie feel. 7y

Such a busy time at school (hence being absent over the past few days :() that this is the first book I have finished in a week!
This is book 2 in the Detective Tony McLean Series, which is set in Edinburgh and has a supernatural element to the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am enjoying this series. Very different to a number of other series due to the supernatural element. I look forward to continuing this series. #crimefiction

A good crime fiction book and series for anyone interested, although the first book had a bit of an occult dimension to it. #crimefiction #setinedinburgh
