These Are a Few of My Favourite Things: The Art of Jill McNeilly
These Are a Few of My Favourite Things: The Art of Jill McNeilly | Tony Collins
12 posts
A unique insight into the creative world of Jill McNeilly capturing some of the best examples of her art. Jill once said ' A day without sewing, painting, or even just simply sitting and thinking in my work room at the top of the house, is quite unbearable.' Jill's output over fifty years has been considerable. She has created vibrant free-style embroidery on dozens of glorious quilts, wall hangings and cushions each demonstrating how you can add colour and personality to your home, and at the same time producing useful household comforts. Her innovative cloth journals demonstrate how you can tie together fragments of family history using old photographs and words. The illustrations demonstrate the unlimited possibilities for fabric cards using jewellery fragments, old sepia photographs and French magazines. She was inspired by the cloth doll project for 'Women in Distress', organized by Brenda Hutchings, and has made and sent a dozen to America. Since then, she has continued to make her own style of doll each with individual features. Her artistic flair is underlined by her creative use of accessories such as tiaras, bows and sparkling jewellery. Her bags and fabric brooches show how easy it is to add colour and personality to your accessories. Her examples of re-working demonstrate some of the great range of materials one can use, including old lace, pearls, diamante and mother-of-pearl buttons etc. If all this were not enough, Jill has produced some fine paintings, many of natural subjects especially flowers and insects, but it is her free-style abstract metallic iridescent canvases which provoke the most attention. People often ask 'What is the picture about?' Jill replies with slight embarrassment 'I don't really know, I suppose it's not about anything other than what it says to you!' Illustrated with fifty-five full-colour photographs, the book brings alive the colourful world of this artist's imagination.

I love: bookmarks, mugs, anything bright, purple or orange especially. I don‘t liked scented things and don‘t have a bath tub :/

#DebsStack #FavoriteThings #BadSnacks Just a sample of why I don't fit into a "One Size Fits Most" anymore! I'm kidding, this is not my regular diet,I promise, but these are a few of my favourite snacks when I have them in the house. Twisties are a superfood?and I can't live without my Icecream. Especially Maggie Beers Burnt Fig, Honeycomb & Caramel?& Connoisseurs Murray River Salted Caramel. Yummy. I do have healthy Chamomile tea there as well?

winemom Snacks from other countries always leave me so intrigued. I have no idea what any of those things are, except the teas. lol 7y
winemom Well, and the donuts. 😂😍 I know donuts well. 7y
Lizpixie @winemom twisties are cheese flavoured twists, kinda like Cheetos but crunchier, Pods are little cup shape biscuits with caramel filling and chocolate on top and the pink frosted thing is a tea cake, cinnamon loaf with sultanas and frosting. 7y

DebinHawaii Where's the Tim Tams?!? 😆 Just kidding! I love Twisties. Snacks from other countries are always more fun--great favorites! 😋😋😋 Thanks for joining in my Litsyversary fun! 💜💜💜 7y
Lizpixie @DebinHawaii doh!🤦🏻‍♀️How could I forget the Tim tams! They were in the fridge where the hubby keeps them. I prefer them at room temp but he puts all chocolate in the fridge. Drives me crazy. 7y
DebinHawaii @Lizpixie Hah! I have to keep them & anything chocolate in my fridge too most of the year because it gets too melty but I'm like you--I prefer my Tim Tams at room temp or a bit soft in the center. Unfortunately I can never wait once I have them out of the package! 😉😆 7y
Centique @Lizpixie @DebinHawaii I love tim tams too! Have you tried the Tim tam explosion where you nip a corner off opposite ends, then sip some tea up through it and then pop the whole thing in your mouth! Crazy good 😜😁😆 7y
DebinHawaii @Centique @Lizpixie I was introduced to what they called a "Tim Tam Slam" with coffee that sounds like the same thing. Delicious! I'll have to try the tea. ?? 7y
