It‘s my birthday! We still can‘t do a whole lot of socializing here, but I had doughnuts at lunch, I‘m gonna finish rereading CHILDREN OF EARTH AND SKY this afternoon, and I‘ll eat lots of delicious Chinese food this evening.

It‘s book & beer time! I headed back into CHILDREN OF EARTH AND SKY earlier and I‘m now in exactly the right mood for it.
I should probably read a library book next, but I‘m having Guy Gavriel Kay cravings. Gonna see if I can make this reread of CHILDREN OF EARTH AND SKY stick.
I'm jumping into this a little late (still Friday). This week hasn't been a great reading week; I've only read one book and it was disappointing.
Allergies are kind of kicking my butt today. I do have plans for tonight (movie) and possibly Sunday and have to replace my car battery this weekend, but I'll make time for reading the tagged book.

Turns out yellow is pretty rare on my fantasy shelves!
History retold as a fantasy novel. I liked it. Simon Vance as a narrator is always a good pick. 4 ⭐s
Guy Gavriel Kay is one of my favourite authors, and this book is a great example of his particular blend of fantasy and historical fiction (although you'll get even more out of it if you've read his two book Sarantine Mosaic first). I'm tempted to read it again while I wait for his new novel to come out in May.
Woke up to snow in London - only the second time in 10 years... makes my Canadian heart glow 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 ❄️

This is three pages long and its only a partial list? 😱
I'm looking forward to this !
What an amazing story. Kay's novels are always historical fiction with 'a quarter turn to the fantastic' in his words and this was a wonderful ride. Set 25 years after the fall of Constantinople- or Sarantium as he dubs it, the novel follows an amazingly human cast through Italy, Turkey and everything in between as they search for art, love and home. #screwyoucharacterlimit
Sister dinner and book date. It's cold here today so chili is on the stove, and we'll be baking cookies later. I love her so much. ☺️🥘
This is Smokey, my other reading buddy for this weekend. 🦃🦃🦃 #littenkitten #catsoflitsy #thanksgiving #canadianauthor
We've just arrived at my aunts home for thanksgiving after a long 8 hour drive. Time to relax!
Time for a new adventure! And this book was only 2$! #litsylunch #canadianauthor
Wood paneling from England and from the late 1500's in Manteo, N.C.! :-)
So I got to MC the Author Readings at Fish Creek Library tonight and it was so wonderful. Guy Gavriel Kay is such an amazing writer
This is happening in Calgary in just one week!! It will be an amazing evening of readings and the authors will be signing books afterwards! Hope to see some Calgary Litsy folk there 😊
The Prix Aurora Award ballot was released yesterday and the competition for Best Novel is stacked! It really is a great list! The Prix Aurora Awards are Canada's Sci-Fi/Fantasy Award. http://www.prixaurorawards.ca/wp3/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/2017-Aurora-Awards-...
Gotta visit the Guy Gavriel Kay section, yes?
If I've never read any Guy Gavriel Kay, where do you recommend I start?
PSA if you're a fan of Kay and haven't read this one yet!
Not a bad read at all - as long as you're already a fan of GGK's work. Weak spots - like the characterization, slow plot, and worldbuilding - can get in the way, but the writing can also make up for all that, kind of. If you haven't read any of GGK's work, it might be a better idea to set this aside and pick up Lions of Al-Rassan instead; that's definitely a much stronger work than this one.
