This is my favourite book in the Witchlands series. The book is told entirely in diary entries and has illustrations on some of the pages. It's also a pretty quick read. It's a novella, but I actually think it is a very key read in the series as there is a lot revealed about the world and it's characters.

This prequel is very different from the other Witchlands books, as the diary of Ryber Fortiza. One by one the rest of the Sightwitch initiates and sisters are called by the goddess to enter the mountain, until Ryber is left alone. When she goes after them, she discovers a danger threatening the entire world. Nice connections to characters in the rest of the trilogy.

So-so, I just don't enjoy novellas. Give me a full novel! Novellas always seem to lack something and seem incomplete.
I do think this one introduced some interesting concepts and plot lines and I hope to see them incorporated in future Witchland books.

Is it Friday yet? I am so grumpy. The never ending winter in KC is getting to me. Can Littens in warmer climates send some sunshine this way?

This is the second book I've seen with an alternate title hidden beneath the jacket (All of This is True also does)! This prequel novella was my favorite of the series so far, I personally loved seeing the cause/effect spanning 1000 years and the bittersweet story. Many elements that I anticipate being brought into future books. Not sure how it would translate to audio, there are sketches and one key plot element is based in those visuals.

A short and fast read about Ryber and Kullen. If you are a fan of the Witchlands series, you'll enjoy it.

Now I'm not saying I bought 5 books with my Powell's credit thanks to their Cyber Monday sale but oh wait yes I am. #noregrets

I‘m soooo excited for Bloodwitch!!! And I have so many theories!!! Is it February yet?

This is fast becoming one of my favorite fantasy series. The magic is unique, the characters engaging, and each book only serves to make me want more. Ryber was a great background character in the other books, but this illustrated prequel makes me love her even more. This is easily my favorite book in the series (so far!).

I've escaped to the woods for the next three days. I plain on doing nothing but sleeping late, going on hikes and reading.

Fyi, I dont think it would hold up as an audiobook, because the imagery is defintely important to the story.

I love world building, so I enjoyed diving into the backstory of this series. I know some people were concerned it didn't advance the series plot, but I think it defintely did, and can't wait to see this story intertwine with the main series.

Ryber‘s journey of self-discovery was not an easy one and I really appreciated that there was explanation of the sightwitchs and the history that they represented. Wowza! I really love these series, and this was an excellent extension of the worldbuilding of the Witchlands. If I wasn't pumped for Bloodwitch before, I am now!

I must admit, things did take a while to start making some sense. The disjointed nature of the diary entries is both frustrating at first, and lovely by the end. Once everything comes together, I can see why this style was...

Everytime I read a novella, I think "does this contribute anything to the actual series?"

Now in full disclosure, it's been a while since I read Truthwitch and Windwitch but I legit don't know what this did for the series.

The story was a little all over the place with the name and POV jumping and the illustrations were honestly completely unnecessary and nothing super gorgeous.

I have hear that this is a book 3, but also recently I was told it's a prequel. Honestly I have no idea. I do own book 1 and 2. Maybe one day I will read them.

I was a little underwhelmed by the preview excerpt. I'm not sure if this was actually the beginning of the book but I felt myself to be a little confused for the entire 119 pages. Based on the layout and format I'm also kinda sad at the quantity of illustrations. Not super crazy about the different time period POV switching each chapter BUT the ending got me really excited to get my hands on the final copy.
