Christmas Past
Christmas Past: A Chronicles of St Mary's Short Story | Jodi Taylor
12 posts | 9 read | 6 to read
The First Farrell Family Christmas Max, Leon and Matthew - together at last for Christmas at St Mary's - a time of conspicuous consumption, riotous misbehaviour and the traditional illegal Christmas jump. And this time, it's inter-generational. Donning her unfamiliar mother hat, Max takes Matthew back to 19th century London, where they plan to deliver a parcel of Christmas cheer to his former friends, but find themselves confronting the terrifying Old Ma Scrope in the process. 'Tis the season to be jolly. It's also the season of goodwill towards all mankind. Pity no one told Max.

This was a sweet tale about friendship and kindness in the face of cruelty, timely for Christmas Eve. Historian Max and her son Matthew travel back to 1812 to bring some much-needed food and blankets to his 2 friends he left behind when he reunited with his mom in the present. Then we get to see how their acts changed history.

This is the cute kind of humor in this book: why can‘t adults lie to kids, who routinely lie to us? 🤨

#wintergames #tmskellington @crimson613 @clwojick @staycurious

GingerAntics Because it sets a bad example, and your kids are going to figure it out eventually? Because the lies can do a lot of damage, even if unintentional? Just my thoughts on it. 4y
coffees 1pt! And yeah, I agree with GingerAntics. I feel like if you lie to your kids then they take that as "the right thing to do" as they grow up. Just because someone does it doesn't mean you should retaliate in kind, it's inevitable that kids will lie but the degree of the lie might not be great if you teach them lying is bad. also lying can cause strain, a kid can feel patronized and authority can be lost ?? idk stuff like that 4y
Texreader @Crimson613 @GingerAntics Oh don‘t take this too seriously! This is a humorous book and the main character makes endless sarcastic jokes like this. I think this is an instance that proves, some things taken out of context lose its humor. 🤔 (edited) 4y

I discovered this author thru her Audible Christmas stories for #wintergames and I‘m so glad I did. Adult stories (as opposed to kids books), non-romance, unique holiday stories with subtle glorious humor. So this ebook is up next.

Always a fun Christmas palette cleanser I enjoyed this short story showing Max trying to build a relationship with her son the only way she knows how. A shame not to have some of the secondary characters have larger parts.

All the stars!!💫⭐️🌟✨🌟⭐️💫

After the last heartbreaking St. Mary‘s novel, Jodi owed me something heartwarming and fun. I‘m okay with happy tears. She is now almost forgiven.

It‘s been a rough week... On Friday the Chemistry Teacher husband attended the service for a student killed in a car accident and then on Saturday we went to the funereal of a friend who suddenly passed away on Wednesday. But today we are enjoying a quiet, cold Christmas with JJ (who has taken over the Chemistry Teacher‘s chair) and Amos (hiding behind the tree).

Happy holidays, Littens! Peace to you all.
