Grace wants Papa to tell her a scary bedtime story... but her little brother Walter doesn't want it to be TOO scary! So as Papa invents the story of two children out for a walk in the woods, Grace and Walter take turns correcting him. But when darkness falls, a shadow looms, and footsteps follow the children all the way home, will the siblings triumph over the too-scary story?

Emilymdxn Climate change rather than horror but this is the only book that‘s ever kept me awake staring at the ceiling too scared to do anything 6y
julesG This had me in goosebumps 6y

LapReader I have to read this one in the morning so I forget about it before dark. I also have to read it in the holidays so it doesn‘t matter if I don‘t sleep. Ha! 6y
dragondrool Night Stalks the Mansion. I was about nine. I remember following up with The Amityville Horror shortly thereafter. Creepy vibes! 6y
JessClark78 The Amityville Horror and Pet Sematary. 6y
BeansPage @Emilymdxn @LapReader @dragondrool those books sound terrifying 😍 thank you for sharing with me you guys! 🤗🤗🤗 6y
CoverToCoverGirl It‘s a dark story about young children stranded without adults, and how they devolve to their basic instincts topped by pack mentality. What happens is equal parts utterly terrifying and truly horrific! 6y
BeansPage @CoverToCoverGirl I've actually read Lord of the Flies before. I definitely agree with you that it is horrifying to think that a bunch of young boys would act in such a manner. But on the other and I found it very interesting in the aspects of psychology and how survival instincts start to take over in certain situations. 6y
CatLass007 I still was in junior high or high school when I read it, so I was impressionable. Plus, I read it in the middle of winter. SK makes his monsters seem so real. 6y
Butterfinger Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and put it under the mattress. 6y
jmofo @TheReadingMermaid Helter Skelter is about the Manson Family. The seemingly randomness of the victims and what was done to them was what got to me. I‘m not much of a scary book or movie person. I grew up scared of being murdered in my sleep, for some reason. 6y
reelsndreads You by Caroline Kepnes. Probably because it took place in NY and I recognized a lot of the places they would talk about, but the second person narration was extremely creepy! 6y
JessClark78 @TheReadingMermaid I was about 12 when I first read Pet Sematary. That was when Stephen King put the fear of the Wendigo in me. It still creeps me out when I reread it. The Amityville Horror freaked me out because I read it when I was living in a house I swear was haunted. A lot of weird activity there and creepy sensations at night. I wouldn‘t even read the book until I was in my room for the night with the door locked. 6y
julesG Tokyo is based on historical events. It has elements that are purely fiction, but even the really gross stuff could be real. I don't want to give anything away here. It was the possibility that the events could have happened, could happen, that made it Avery thrilling read. It's not horror, though. 6y

MiyakoBunny Yay 😍 Excited! 7y
JenlovesJT47 @MiyakoBunny do you subscribe? I'm actually super disappointed in this one and am thinking about canceling. Plus they didn't put one of the things in there that's supposed to be there (would have been my favorite thing too!😭). 7y
MiyakoBunny Awww That‘s too bad 😭 No I‘m not subscribed but I know I‘m getting next months gifted 💝 to me lol 😂 my husband doesn‘t know how to clear his browser 🤣 7y

JenlovesJT47 @MiyakoBunny I hope you enjoy it! Last month's box was amazing but I'm just really disappointed in this one. I might give it one more month and see how it goes, since they're supposed to have some cool stuff for February! 7y
JenlovesJT47 @MiyakoBunny and lol about your hubby not clearing his browser! 😂😂😱 7y
MiyakoBunny Same 🤞🏼🤞🏼Crossing my fingers for both of us that Feb‘s box 📦 is awesome 🖤 & yeah my husband + surprises don‘t mix lol 😂 7y
JenlovesJT47 @MiyakoBunny 😂😂😂at least he's trying! 😅 7y
MiyakoBunny Yes very true ☺️☺️☺️ 7y
Avanders Bummer about the missing object! I haven't done this one in a while, but I often think fondly of it. ☺️ Contact the people and tell them they didn't send the item -- I would think they'd be responsive? 7y
JenlovesJT47 @Avanders I contacted them last night and they replied within 5 minutes and said they will send it ASAP. They are very nice! 7y
Avanders 🙌🏽 yay! Glad to hear it ☺️☺️ 7y

For my first #nocturnalreadersbox I was very pleasantly surprised! I first squee'd when I opened the box and saw this awesome Christmasland shirt from NOS4A2. Then there's the Jaws mug (you're gonna need a bigger mug!), the washi tape patterned after the carpet in the Overlook Hotel in The Shining, a pin shaped like a planchette to go with a book about Ouija boards, another awesome-looking book, bookmarks, can holder featuring 🔽TBC below

JenlovesJT47 Bentley Little's The Store, and an awesome art print from Bird Box. Well worth the money for this box, I was very pleasantly surprised! 7y
BookwormAHN Loved this month's box 🖤 7y
aprilpohren That looks awesome @JenlovesJT47 !! 7y

CoffeeCatsBooks Tee hee! I can‘t resist spoilers. Mine is supposed to arrive today. 7y
JenlovesJT47 @CoffeeCatsBooks hehe I hope yours gets there today! I'm really excited about this, for my first box I think they did a great job. I don't read enough horror books so this will inspire me to do so. I just bought the audiobook for NOS4A2 last week so I really love the shirt! 7y

MinDea Are you a #botm member? Interested to see someone's opinion of these 2 subscription boxes... 7y
DeeLew Loved this box!! 💀🖤 7y
BookwormAHN @MinDea I subscribe to both. Botm is great especially since you can choose your book; with Nocturnal you get two horror books which are usually good, one book is new the other is a prerelease, and the extras are pretty cool. 🖤 7y

I had to read this book based on the barcode positioning. I love when designers play like this! Turns out I enjoyed the bedtime story in a bedtime story. The kids are active in crafting the tale and Dad is responsive to their input. #picturebooks
