"Nine mall Santas must find the imposter among them. An elderly lady seeks peace from her murderously loud neighbors at Christmastime. A young woman receives a mysterious invitation to Christmas dinner with a stranger. Niccol Machiavelli sets out to save an Italian city. Sherlock Holmes's one-time nemesis Irene Adler finds herself in an unexpected tangle in Paris while on a routine espionage assignment. Jane Austen searches for the Dowager Duchess of Wilborough's stolen diamonds. These and other adventures in this delectable volume will whisk readers away to Christmases around the globe, from a Korean War POW camp to a Copenhagen refugee squat, from a palatial hotel in 1920s Bombay to a crumbling mansion in Havana." --

This is a collection of short stories, so some were better than others. I appreciated the range of stories in this collection. I‘d say there‘s something in here for everyone, even those who don‘t normally read crime fiction.

1. The tagged. Different from my normal genre, it was a fun, sometimes dark, collection of short stories, each featuring a crime.

2. Yes—I do something, like work on a jigsaw puzzle, clean, bake, walk, etc.

TheSpineView I should walk more!😊💜😘 4y
S3V3N I just got back into jigsaw puzzles during the shelter in place time. I completed 3, mainly because shipping was terrible. I listened to audiobooks while working on them too. 4y
wanderinglynn @TheSpineView I haven‘t been walking too much lately. 🤭 I need to do more, but it‘s been rainy & cool and it gets dark so early. But I‘m planning on new BFC in the new year 😉 4y
wanderinglynn @BeaG I‘m a huge jigsaw addict! 🙌🏻🧩💚 4y

Pickpick

This is not my normal holiday read, but I thoroughly enjoyed most all of these eclectic short stories, each which feature some sort of crime. Also one story features Sherlock Holmes and one features Jane Austen.

Bookwormjillk I got this from the library but was unsure about it. I‘m glad to see your review. 4y
wanderinglynn @Bookwormjillk be forewarned that a couple of the stories are dark and not in line with a joyful season. But overall, I enjoyed it. 4y

Overall this was a good compilation of stories from Soho Crime authors. I found a few authors who‘s stories I enjoyed enough to make me interested in checking out their work. As with any anthology collection, there were stories that I didn‘t particularly like and authors writing styles who weren‘t for me. #WinterGames #TheFilthyAnimals #TBRRead #HolidayRead

The Litsy ratings on this book are abysmal, but I am loving this collection of dark holiday mysteries (well, more accurately “crime stories”) so far. It‘s given me several new authors to try out soon.

If you‘re looking for cozy Christmas cheer, though, you might want to keep looking. 🎅🏼🎅🏼🎅🏼🔪🎅🏼

I just couldn‘t do this one.... not something I was enjoying and life is to short to read bad books!

SitsWithaBook I think I read this one last year or so and found it a bit of a struggle, too. Story collections can be a real mixed bag. 6y

Texreader @MeganAnn I wanted to thank you again for such thoughtful gifts and to tell you how lovely the ornament is on my tree. I will keep it around year-round for my sewing. I treasure homemade things (the sign is going in my craft room) and this feels so special being made for me. Merry Christmas Eve!! 6y

Good morning! Just got my rebounder (mini trampoline) delivered, so attempting to put it together. However, trying to pick through this #libraryhaul for another read along with my current read. Trying to keep the books I am reading simultaneously down to 3 books!

EvieBee @smilingshelves I just started and it‘s so cute!! 7y
sarahbellum I loved The Cat Who series 😸 7y
EvieBee @sarahbellum I started it 10 years ago and I adored the books and characters! Working on series that I loved but have yet to finish all of 2018. (edited) 7y

My December Commute read from Soho Crime- all by different authors and read by different narrators. The first one is about a “little old lady” who can take care of herself- and others- just fine thank you- watch out for that walker and that jumbo safety pin!! So fun- on audible now.

minkyb Looks like fun! 7y
