Blah Blah Blah: What To Do When Words Don't Work | Dan Roam
10 posts | 2 read | 1 reading | 2 to read
Ever been to so many meetings that you couldn't get your work done? Ever fallen asleep during a bulletpoint presentation? Ever watched the news and ended up knowing less? Welcome to the land of Blah Blah Blah. The Problem: We talk so much that we don't think very well. Powerful as words are, we fool ourselves when we think our words alone can detect, describe, and defuse the multifaceted problems of today. They can't-and that's bad, because words have become our default thinking tool. The Solution: This book offers a way out of blah-blah-blah. It's called "Vivid Thinking."In Dan Roam's first acclaimed book, The Back of the Napkin, he taught readers how to solve problems and sell ideas by drawing simple pictures. Now he proves that Vivid Thinking is even more powerful. This technique combines our verbal and visual minds so that we can think and learn more quickly, teach and inspire our colleagues, and enjoy and share ideas in a whole new way.The Destination: No more blah-blah-blah. Through Vivid Thinking, we can make the most complicated subjects suddenly crystal clear. Whether trying to understand a Harvard Business School class, or what went down in the Conan versus Leno battle for late-night TV, or what Einstein thought about relativity, Vivid Thinking provides a way to clarify anything.Through dozens of guided examples, Roam proves that anyone can apply this systematic approach, from leftbrain types who hate to draw to right-brainers who hate to write. This isn't just a book about improving communications, presentations, and ideation; it's about removing the blah-blah- blah from your life for good.

I‘ve probably picked up 10 books this month, read 50-ish pages in each book and then set it down. Just not feeling anything for some reason. 😴🥱 i think I might try ACOTAR next, maybe I‘m having a book hangover from the Folk of Air trilogy idk

coffeenebula Happening to me a lot lately…it eventually passes. #readingslump 3y

I'm in the middle of library checkouts. I finished my last book and I haven't requested my new haul. Why do I feel this way when I have 1000s of books (most are children's books), almost 200 not read. I think I'll reread John Grisham's Skipping Christmas or Passion According to Carmela on my Kindle. Choices. Choices.

Hhhmmmm......I'm not feeling any of these this month. What about you guys?? #botm

Beachesnbooks Me neither...I think I'll probably be skipping. I'd love if there were fewer thrillers. The Mars Room sounds most interesting to me but I can't see myself actually reading it anytime soon 7y
DGRachel I‘m pretty sure I‘m skipping this month, too. 7y
BookwormAHN I'm skipping also. 7y

BeansPage I skipped 7y
AmyG I skipped. Just too busy right now. 7y
Reviewsbylola I probably only would have chosen one but I had to use two credits to close my second account so I went with How To Walk Away and The Mars Room. 7y
LazyLibrary @Beachesnbooks I felt like her synopsis of The Mars Room made me not want to get it. Almost like she said, "you've been warned, you won't like this." I'm def going to keep an eye on it and see what people think. 7y
LazyLibrary @DGRachel @BookwormAHN @Syndelle777 @AmyG 😂I think I'm joining the skip club. Dang, sorry May reads. 7y
LazyLibrary @Reviewsbylola I'll def await your reviews!!! Now I'm going to be so curious about what people think this month!!!! 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife I was thinking of skipping, but decided to get How To Walk Away and The Perfect Mother. I hope The Perfect Mother is not like The Couple Next Door or Not That I Could Tell. 😬 7y
IheartYA Nah. Pass. 😕 7y
LazyLibrary @allthingskayla I enjoyed Not That I Could Tell, but wondered if The Perfect Mother would be too similar. I don't feel like reading it twice 😂you'll have to let me know! 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @LazyLibrary I enjoyed Not That I Could Tell as well and hoping that it is not a repeat of that or The Couple Next Door. Will do. 😊 7y

Am feeling rather blah right now. Feel no motivation to read at the moment. Also feel disappointed that I didn‘t get more books for Christmas from the family. It seems to be this way frequently. Doesn‘t help that my birthday is right around the corner and that I am hesitant to purchase a book I really want right now. Sorry for the rant.

jpmcwisemorgan A friend of mine‘s wife gave her a Vera Bradley gift card for Christmas because she‘s boycotting Amazon. My friend is perturbed so I told her to tell her wife to give me the money for her birthday present, which is coming up. That way my friend gets an Amazon gift card but her wife doesn‘t have to touch it, just pay for it. Maybe you could find someone to do this for you with your family??? 7y
melissajayne @jpmcwisemorgan that wouldn‘t happen. 7y
Scurvygirl 😿I didn‘t get any books either. I think my family is afraid to get me something I already have. I did however get at least 15 pairs of socks... 7y

TheBookStacker The boyfriend and I are deciding between Minneapolis and Las Vegas right now! I love Minnesota but don't think I could brace the winters after being down in New Orleans for so long! 8y
Lucylovesreading @TheBookStacker There's so much that makes up for the cold though and to me I'd rather be able to bundle up and be warm than never go outside cuz of the heat! Minneapolis is an amazing town, I went on to college there and still miss it. So much to do all the time, u have the outdoors, city life, festivals...the list goes on! And the mild summers to me are the best! 7y
