Beast: A Tale of Love and Revenge
Beast: A Tale of Love and Revenge | Lisa Jensen
17 posts | 14 read | 29 to read
Filled with magic and fierce emotion, Lisa Jensen's multilayered novel will make you question all you think you know about beauty, beastliness, and happily ever after. They say Chteau Beaumont is cursed. But servant-girl Lucie can't believe such foolishness about handsome Jean-Loup Christian Henri LeNoir, Chevalier de Beaumont, master of the estate. But when the chevalier's cruelty is revealed, Lucie vows to see him suffer. A wisewoman grants her wish, with a spell that transforms Jean-Loup into monstrous-looking Beast, reflecting the monster he is inside. But Beast is nothing like the chevalier. Jean-Loup would never patiently tend his roses; Jean-Loup would never attempt poetry; Jean-Loup would never express remorse for the wrong done to Lucie. Gradually, Lucie realizes that Beast is an entirely different creature from the handsome chevalier, with a heart more human than Jean-Loup's ever was. Lucie dares to hope that noble Beast has permanently replaced the cruel Jean-Loup -- until an innocent beauty arrives at Beast's chteau with the power to break the spell.

It wasn‘t all the witch‘s fault.
She was just the one he saw as his spine hunched forward, as claws sprang out of the furry paws that had been his elegant hands only moments before, as long tendrils of mane erupted out over his eyes.

This was an interesting retelling. I always enjoy a good Beauty and the Beast retelling, this one took me by surprise. It made you think about the events of the original story. Overall I really enjoyed this story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

LOVE THIS BOOK! I will admit it was a bit creepy at times and made me mad in others but this was a really good read! I came across this book while I was browsing the shelves at Chapters Indigo and saw a rose (one of my favourite flowers) and was like "WHATS THIS" *sings nightmare before Christmas what's this song in my head* strongly recommend reading ?????

I really loved this book! I wasn't expecting it at all. I bought it from a bargain bin for 50 cents, and finished it in 2 days. It is a completely different take on Beauty and the Beast, one which I found oddly refreshing, and a little bizarre.

I think if you're a little into fantasy/the classics, you'll really enjoy this book!

📚📚 Happy Reading! 📚📚

I loved this book! Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite fairytales and I love to read retellings. This book follows the original French tale so if you aren't familiar with it I would suggest reading the tale first. Other wise this was a fantastic, magical read.

A story about the real Beast, told by Luice (the candle)...

No... Just a no from me. It almost ruined my all-time childhood favourite. From the disturbing scenes, to the poor similarities to the original and the bad writing, this was not the book for me.

You can read my full review on my Goodreads profile or my blog (see bio)

I gave this 2 stars 🌟🌟 - one for the idea of the Beauty and the Beast and one for me, because I managed to finish it.

I was provided an eARC copy of the book by Candlewick Press. DNF‘d.

I was extremely disappointed to find that the publisher didn‘t give any trigger warnings when promoting this book. I was expecting a Beauty and the Beast retelling, instead all I got was juvenile writing style, characters with no depth to them and a rape scene that I had no idea was coming. I would not recommend this book, it would only be a waste of your time.

????????????

Received an ARC from Netgalley, a few days until the pub date (10th July 2018). Thanks to @netgalley, Lisa Jensen and @CandlewickPress
